I think that he called him brother because that they both are the same race :
Transformers, And from the same planet :
CybertronBut well, maybe there is something about it ... who knows?

That's how I took it.

Do they have the same mother or father?

If I say "What's up, bro?" does that actually make us brothers?
No.

No.
But, if you read the prequel comics, you will find out that they are indeed related.

And of course it makes perfect sense for a race of robots that don't produce sexually to have traditional family units.
...
But I took it to be 'brothers' in a figurative state, rather than literal. Didn't the prequels have Optimus and Megs ruling Cybertron side-by-side for a while? I'm sure the two would of gotten on swimmingly for a while, until the whole 'I'm and Autobot and you're a Decepticon' thing got too much for them.

Actually, I was watching Maury the other day and the story is that Prime's mother worked at one of those joints that Rattrap always talked about where the serving bots walk around minus their torso plates. Apparantly she met one night with a high tipping bot, had a little too much energon and thus Megatron was born.
i think next week is the 'who's the daddy episode' where they do techno-organic decryption to identify the father.

I thought that line had kind of a Star Wars "Luke..I am your father!" feeling to it. I was all "No way!", you know you never thought of Megatron as Optimus Prime's brother. That was definitly a high point in writing and something we may see built upon in the sequels.

Yeah, I doubt Optimus and Megatron would have the same inventor, so I mean, yeah. It's probably a thing of "We're brothers of the universe."

In the novel tie in Optimus says something along the lines of "We are what you humans would consider brothers"
Now brothers could simply mean both cybertonian, though I think the angle the script writers were looking for was for the more obvious one.
Eh, The line in the movie could really be taken anyway you wanted it to be, so I don't know what to make of it until the sequel.

Prime and Megs are the most powerful Transformers in this continuity. Therefore they are the dualistic powers and brothers.
