Why did the bots move around like monkeys?

One thing I noticed is that there were a lot of flips going on, particularly when Ironhide is doing his thing in the final battle. But then there's also a lot of crawling around and dangling going on throughout the whole thing. I understand that since these are superadvanced machines they wouldn't approach a gunfight like a human would, but I really don't think they'd resort to simian battle tactics. I was half expecting Jazz to start flinging poo with his feet.

The scene on top of the bridge, at leat I think it's a bridge, where all the 'Bots came down right before the Sector Seven attack (My continuity is probably way off), reminded me a lot of the Ninja Turtles. they just needed a big metal pizza.

If you could do flips and such while grabbing a bridge support while avoiding gunfire, wouldn't you be doing it at every chance as well? Moving and swinging and such are a sound way of throwing off an enemies aim so I say let em fly around like a monkey.

I thought all of the flipping was a bit odd.

Well, they are super-transforming cbernetic lifeforms from across spaaaaaaace! - I'm surprised that they went with the Protoforms still being humanoid. To a robot, surely the concept of 'right-way-up' and 'certain limbs for certain things' would be pretty pointless, and their bodies wouldn't be limited in the same way a human's is. They could have joints that fold in any direction they want.
So it was a bit strange to see them fighting like 'monkeys' but it didn't really bother me.
Optimus' lips, however....
*shudder*

The lips didn't bother me. Guess I got used to Cybertron OP having them.

I think that a better question would be "Why do monkeys move around like Transformers?"

Blame Optimus Primal for that one.

I didn't see the movie yet but on the trailers Starscream flips around like a monkey and Transforms. Plus his toy does look a bit monkeyish. Big, long arms. Small feet. It all matches a monkey

What I'd like to know is why, in a movie about giant robots, they couldn't move like... giant robots. I can understand needing them to seem more fluid and organic, but their movements have as much grounding in physics as the fight scenes in Dragon Ball Z. Realism?

Primal wasn't a monkey.

If we're gonna start questioning the way they move, and the fact that they are humanoid, why don't we question the fact that they move at all? They're just big computers with legs after all. Why don't they just look like big Home PCs and just send out virus signals to each other... wouldn't that be more efficient? It could be like PCbots vs Macbots imagine the money they could have saved in special effects. Frenzy could have been an iPod.
Now thats excitement!!!

This also a matter of visual character identity, though. I'm pretty sure that the decision was based on the current trends in CGI character animation (Technically, these Transformers are "creature FX") and Hollywood fight scenes, but I don't think that it was such a good decision. Flipping around like that makes them "feel" more like animals than like people.

Thirded, along with the robots never being still or on screen too long.
Got the STRONG feeling they were avoiding visual contact with the viewers so as to reduce the "this CGI could be better" factor.

Yeah, the constant rolling and swinging like monkeys was really annoying. Not at all like what I imagined the fights would be like.
