Why couldn't Michael Bay make them look like they did in the original 80s cartoon? What is everyones opinion on that?

Are we still on this after all these years? Because vehicles that turn into a series of blocks would look stupid.

When you say,"turning into a series of blocks would be stupid;"Are you're referring to how they looked in the cartoon as opposed to the way they were in the movie?

Take a look at the G1 figures and how "well" they translated from cartoon to real life. Now imagine those figures on a larger scale beside actual modern day cars and military vehicles. Would they not seem out of place? In terms of the live action movie, The Transformers are an advanced alien race who can adapt and blend into to what we, as in present day earth, have now. Why would they choose to look like 80s cartoons when they landed here :P

They looked that way in the 80s because that's the limit of what animators could do at the time. Which is why each new series, for the most part, is more detailed and animated than the last.

I like the movie aesthetic, except for their faces. There is just too much going on there, I'd prefer a less intricate maybe liquid metal like face.

Ok I guess I get the whole adapting to what our vehicles look like now since they an advanced alien race and all. But why make Megatron a jet? Why make
shockwave's transformation mode some kind of snake looking thing?Originally he transformed into a laser cannon. Also Laserbeak never spoke so why now?

The "snake" thing wasn't Shockwave's alt-mode.

It's a series about giant alien robots that change.

They probably wanted to give Megatron a legit reason for having the ability to fly since he flew from Cybertron to Earth. Also I'm pretty sure I read that they didn't wanna do the whole shrinking down in size for an alt mode since its like against laws of physics.
