The main problem with the movie was....

...that it was created to begin with. In no way, shape or form would any director have been able to make all TRANSFORMERS fans happy. I mean seriously, if Bay took a script strictly G1 based, not only would we have alot of cheesy lines and fight scenes, he'd be alienating the new generation of TF fans that came into being post G1 and BEAST WARS.
And if he based it off ARMADA or CYBERTRON, HA! I don't even want to think about it "OPTIMUS PRIME! OPTIMIZE!!!!" Oh boy.
I finally see an OP variant I like other than G1, a Bumblebee thats not a sissy, and the Marines and Co. kickin' some Decepticon butt. Good enough for me.
Now how long will it take for someone to disagree with me?

Okay, yeah cool. Why it was good:
1. The humans actually fight back, instead of hide under a rock or something.
2. Transformers that ACTUALLY KILL PEOPLE! OMFG CRUDE VIOLENCE!
3. Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
4. The action.
5. The fact that it DIDN'T SUCK. I came in thinking it was going to bomb, but as a TF fan, but, IMO, this is BY FAR the best scif-fi/action movie of the summer. It's the one to beat.
6. Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
7. The fact that Shia potrayed a Sam instead of Spike. I think it just suited him better.
8. DECEPTICON COP CAR!!! TO PUNISH & ENSLAVE!
9. And Xbox 360 TF? WTF?!

Points 3 and 6 are what did it for me. And 7 and 8 to boot.

Yup.
Although the D-cons got like a minute's worth of screentime (thus, less character development), it was still great to see them all.
From what I've checked, this movie has already grossed over $100 mil?

TF's will break all box office records. This movie has been hailed for 20+ years.
Just imagine, in part 2, the Bots will look even realer, and the storyline can only get better.
Galvatron and Ultra Magnus baby!

Caracter from the Movie are cool. Cyclonus, Scourge, Ultra Magnus and somewhat Galvatron. BUT, not Hot Rod! You dont have to be from the g1 era to understand he
SUCK!!!I could tolerate Hot Rod. But, the problem is Hot Rod=Rodimus at some point. Rodimus=No Optimus!

of course, they could could have taken both old AND new characters in the series and put them with a completely new storyline, and that might've satisfied more people. but NO, they went with a G1 remake, completely ignoring everything that happenned after G1.
yet... in the end, it turned out to be an AWESOME movie, from any point of view, even that of non-transfans

I didn't hate Hot Rod. Didn't like him all that much but didn't hate him.
Well.....maybe I hated him a little bit, but not to the point.....hmmm. Yeah, he should just die.

Why exactly would the dialogue and fight scenes have to be cheezy? Hell the movie thats out now is already cheezy enough. This is why you hire some good writers and or a good director. Also maybe somebody who actually cares about the source material beyond that of it just being a nothere pay check?

"Somebody who actually cares about the source material beyond that of it just being a nothere pay check Starscream? That's bad comedy."
You can argue how the script could have been better from YOUR perspective all day if you want, but for every person that agrees with you, I'll find 10 that don't.

come on, lines like: "You're a soldier now!!" were written so friggin well.
and besides, megan fox should win an academy award for her performance. she almost looked like she wanted to be there. in fact, it almost looked like she could care less.
and further more why was bumblebee able to hold the allspark?
why didn't it fix his voice after he got it? it fixed frenzy and he didn't do anything, just walked up to it. bumblebee did his radio voice after he transformed the allspark small, but he didn't talk until the end of the movie.
and why when bumblebee got his legs blown off didn't the allspark fix him within seconds? sam was right next to him.
and he said he wanted to stay and prtect the kid. but at the end they are all just chillin', what else are they going to do besides protect the kid and help him get laid?
and if was supposed to be so serious, why was the goddamn guy from sector 7 wearing an understhirt that looks like the superman logo with his name on it?
and barricade, and the mt. dew and 360 con, scorponok, what happened to them? are they just running around on streets?
etc, etc, etc.........
i don't have a problem with the directing, i think michael bay does action great, but the writing has more holes than a shower head. sorry, i'm just so tired of people saying this movie didn't have it's serious plot holes, and comparing it to a cartoon episode. they aren't even in the same ballpark.. this movie was supposed to be real life, and it seems like a hilarious sitcom.
3 out of 5 stars. that's 60%, for lack of effort

Maybe he did that on purpose. To let the fans know that there is going to be a sequel >_>

Y'know, it's a good point. I don't think the fact that Bay is the "Director To Mock D'Jour" really helps, but I'm sure there would have been complaints no matter WHO did it.
Take the first Spiderman. Most people agree it's one of the better comic book movies ever made, even with its faults(Green Goblin Ranger). But there are fans who won't even watch the movie, and tried to make a "real" version. Because they didn't like the story, or the actors? Nope. Because Spiderman had organic web shooters. Nevermind the fact that organic web shooters make more sense than a poor high school/college kid being able to afford a steady supply of chemicals, not to mention working out the formula... but that wasn't the way the original was, so it was "bad".
You could probably create a party game based on what fans would've found wrong with any potential director.
Brad Bird? Great director, great writer. Someone would've pointed out that he's never done live action, and probably would have said his version would be too kiddy.
Speilberg? Someone would say War of the Worlds was horrible, and we'd still get the anger over the "boy and his car" storyline.
If they'd gone the route of a lot of comic movies, and picked a director with a strong background of character-driven, low budget films, someone would point out they'd never done effects work.
I think Bay was a pretty solid choice, and while there are some scenes where the tone is off, they pale in comparison to when he nails it. The "Autobots Arrive" sequence, for example, is great. I wish there would be less camera movement during the battle scenes, but that's not just a Michael Bay problem, as you can see by watching just about any action movie nowadays.

My point is that a script based solely on any one genre of TF's would have failed miserably with the general populace. Bay knew that, so do you, deep down inside.
Just enjoy it for what it was: a movie.

I just seen the movie today...Merciless0ne wrote:Okay, yeah cool. Why it was good:1. The humans actually fight back, instead of hide under a rock or something.

I agree in that point, just the touch of realism I expected...3. Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
4. The action.
5. The fact that it DIDN'T SUCK. I came in thinking it was going to bomb, but as a TF fan, but, IMO, this is

I still remember the first "WayWiki" one that meet the TF, Buster Witwicky..., I still bear in mind the G1 comics...8. DECEPTICON COP CAR!!! TO PUNISH & ENSLAVE!
A great point would be to see Prowl in the next movie..., fighting against Barricade of course...
9. And Xbox 360 TF? WTF?!
Ouch, I didn't like the way the Allspark "transformed" current machines in TF..., it really sucked, anything could be a TF?? No!
Also the way the TF's could change their alt mode..., it seems to don't suit with the term "reallystic", that Bay wanted to sell us..., and the Allspark-cube...
But for the rest I really enjoyed the movie!

And also the myth of the indestructible, invulnerable and almost eternal Meggy of the comics, just vanished by an insignificant human, in some way...
