The hologram thing reminded me of T2 for some reason. In any case, that was rather clever having fake drivers and pilots. I liked it.

it did have a t2 feel.. and the music, sounded like t2. hell, and for being a cybornetic robot from the future, t1 and t2 did a frak of alot better job.
but back on topic, there was a few times when i was referencing t2 in this movie. kinda unfortunate.

Nevertheless, it made perfect sense to have holograms. It would be a dead giveaway having planes, helicoptors, and automobiles/Trucks driving around empty.

Yes.

I'm almost 98% sure they used holographic drivers in G1. I'll have to check my DVD collection to be sure, but I remember a situation where Sam jumps into one of them and sees the driver disappear and is then explained why the Autobots use them to blend in.

Maybe it was a different series, but i'm almost positive it happened in G1.

Huzah for first post!

Did you notice they had tinted windows? Who is to say they didn't have hologram drivers? We just didn't see it. Barricade had a hologram, as did Blackout. We never got any close up shots of Starscream, so it can be either way-tinted cockpit/no hologram, or hologram. So get off my f*cking back already! :-x Step off.

I think the reason we see the Decepticon use holograms and not the Autobots is that they are trying to decieve humans while the Autobots are nothing but up front with humans as they want our trust.

Kinda off subject but if the Autobots do use Halograms in the second movie, which I'd imagine they would considering they're trying to be secrit protectors of Earth now along with the huge government cover up of the whole ordeal, Peter Cullin better end up being Prime's, nuff said.

How cool would that be? A close up of OP's cab from the perspective of another driver on the street, driver looks over and there's Cullen sporting a cowboy hat and big grin on his face.

I thought the hologram driver for Barricade and the pilot for Blackout was an excellent touch. If the autobots had done the same thing they wouldn't have looked so suspicious while in disguise.

In the second episode, MTMTE Part 2, Hound transforms into a jeep, then uses his holographic projector to create a hologram of a driver. Spike asks "Who's he?"
Hound responds, "Nobody, Spike, he doesn't really exist. He's a hologram."

There was an issue of the original Marvel series that the Autobots use mechanical human facsimiles to impersonate drivers which poped up from their seats.

So in essense, it was the opposite. The Autobots wanted to blend in, the Decepticons couldn't have cared less if the humans seen them without drivers.

The idea isn't without previous sources.

Ummmm, that's Stan Lee. Jack Kirby has been dead for quite some time now.

I might be mistaken, but I could've sworn that Starscream had a 'driver' too... During the Decepticon rollcall I thought I saw someone in Starscream... Am I imagining this?

You didn't. A holographic pilot appeared in Starscream during that sequence.

Did anyone happen to notice how all three of those hologram pilots happened to look like that Banacheck Sector Seven guy?

There was a definite and distinct homage to Terminator in the music.

hell, and for being a cybornetic robot from the future, t1 and t2 did a frak of alot better job.

...At what point have Transformers claimed to be from the future?

Re: The holograms looking like the Sector 7 guy: I think that was just coincidence. Someone said somewhere I another thread that the pilot guy was an actual military pilot?

Nope, Screamer used an holographic driver. Bonecrsuher and brawl dint needed them because we cant see inside the vehicule.

Yeah Banachek looked strikingly familiar to the holograms, same actor?

Here too. It was just... logical.

I remember Hound doing it early on in the series, but then they never went back to it.
I guess it saved a few hours on the animation... as well as didn't create a demand from kids that their toys should have pilot figures.

I don't think the Autobots should have holo-drivers. they should get themselves real drivers, something already accomplished by Bumblebee and Ironhide

I already mentioned those 2. I meant all of the Autobots

the "robovision prime" toy has a cowboy-hat wearing driver (and when you open the driver side door, the cowboy disapears!) and I swore up and down that this meant that, surely, Cullen might make a cameo appearance as the holo-driver. oh well.
