This is going to be a stickied thread to exchange advice and discoveries regarding configurations, weapons/armor, minicons, etc.

Share your knowledge openly, and encourage new players to peruse this thread for advice.

Also do your best to keep this thread on topic, obviously.

New recruits are also encouraged to avail themselves of the resources in HMW GD and HMW's Help Section. They should be warned though that HMW is perpetually under construction, so if something seems odd, don't be afraid to ask about it.

It's normally not good to take firepower or skill at level 0, but there seems to be a shortage of basic weapons. :?

I still say that speed is the best ability for low levels.

Generally I prefer to focus on Strength and Courage.

Speed is the king of low levels. Strength is key as well, especially with the total dearth of decent weapons. Courage shouldn't be neglected but should not be a focus until 4th or 5th level, when tactic attacks become commonplace, thus taking away much of Speed's importance.

Speed and Strength are key in the low levels! Everything else is moot until higher up the food chain.

Ok let me get this straight...
Speed is more important than courage at low levels? What does it do, strengthen the attack? I thought it merely improved the chances of a hit. Right now my 1's are 6 str, 4 courage (for more attacks) and 3 ram. would it be better for me to switch my courage to speed? (dealing with 280,000xp on a character)

Current for V1 ,some will change in V2 making more stats useful for more build types. My ideas are in ().

Str: More damage with all weapons ,unarmed, and Ram. Wear more armor. (Good all around helps damage and defence)

Int: unlock some tactics. Feeder stat for the repairing you do. (Don't bother unless your character is a repairer. Don't try and build a repairer until at least lvl 2.)

Speed: Adds to your to hit. Makes it harder for others to hit you. Feeder stat for avoid. Slight bonus to how often you go. (Good all around helps attack and defence. Everyone needs some. Don't fail to take so you can get hit more often so you can get more avoids for the exp/energon boost. Not worth it.)

End: Protect against tactic damage ,which armor doesn't do. Makes repairs to you more effective. Reduces normal attack damage some but not as much as armor.(Don't worry about it until end of lvl 2. Have at least a 3 before entering lvl 4.)

Rank: allows better types of armor. (Don't worry with unless you have at least 4 str.)

Courage: Large part of determining how often you go. Based on a relative difference. (Keep in mind that this is relative and Speed helps some.)

Firepower: Allows more powerful weapons. Feeder stat for Strafe. (Don't worry until about lvl 2, and have 3 or more with good other stats. Most low end weapons left are not worth it ,unless you are going for the look :). )

Skill: Unlocks some tactics. With Firepower allows more powerful weapons. (Don't worry until about lvl 2, and have 3 or more with good other stats. Most low end weapons left are not worth it ,unless you are going for the look :). )

Feeder stats make a tactic more effective but the tactic effects how often it happens.

Looks alright to me. Though crg isn't that important against other lvl 0s and I reccomend only going up against other lvl 0s or 0-1 missions that is balanced toward the Autobot side in terms of lvls. IMO str and speed are the most important stats at lvl 0.

If I was doing them I wouldn't really start on the heavy use of tactics until lvl 1. Rammers at the beginning and strafers at the end ...really I would wait until 2nd lvl for strafing.

thanks for the advice! what do you think is the ideal setup for my team? would 2 strength:2 speed/character get me through most arenas and missions?

Thanks to the new tactics, you can go 3 strength 1 ram, then pile on alot of xp into a melee type form to boost the lvl. 0 str.

my 3 main hitters now are at 3 strength, 1 courage mark, and with deflecters attached, they are relatively dissing anyone who goes their way.

my question is: will putting other points in RAM and/or robot skills affect my level standing? i still wan't to remain lvl 0 until i amass enough XP points for a level 1 setup.

Yes, upgrading tactics adds to your total Upgrade count toward leveling.

my high end lvl 1's have the following setup:

6 str, 4 courage, 3 ram, and 6 melee robot ability. Add a +4 str. minicon, and the results speak for themselves (rolled in 21000xp today in ambush the Judge. Link posted in the bragging thread.)

aw rats, that sucks... i guess i'll have to put off tactics for a while or is it a good idea to exchange 1 COURAGE for 1 RAM? thanks! (this'll take reformatting though, kinda sucky 'coz i can't always remember the color values of my bots LOL)

oh, and what if i pump points into robot abilities? will i still be able to remain lvl 0?

Yes, a good LV 0 config would be 3 STR and 1 Ram. More damage means more XP. And adding XP to your Robot Abilities does not count toward leveling up.

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that result. http://www.seibertron.com/heavymetalwar/view_mission.php?mission_id=255135 Check out the setup of my lvl. 0/1s for ideas
Yes, currently robot abilities points dont effect lebelling, so load em up! due to the high cost of them though, once you get around 30,000 xp, Id push the bot into lvl 1. and start pwning the ambush the judge missions.

Wow, alt mode without strafe with an assault robot mode with exp spent in the robot ability. Sigh, well at least he's on the other side.

Okay, seeing as how the Deflectors/Trip Dips are now approachig non-neccesary, I was wondering if someone wouldn't mind looking at my team and advising me on who needs what minicon to work best?

ok, noob thoughts, but here ya go: most of your bots are attack based on courage, not strength, intelligence alts will boost your courage, and then you can use deflector cons for the defensive armor. A bot with black magic + 6 courage +6 additional alt courage + 10 electrum armor= a heavy hitting heavy shielded bot. Just make sure you have a few points in speed to up your success rate of hitting.
I'd set one bot up with that config and test it.

yeah, I can't reset a few, I caught a glitch, and Titan, Audion, Sentinel Prime, and Tec Spec are using con alts. So no on the reset there. But I can plug in Chargers.

If it's glitching you that bad, pm OS about it... With a few nice words, (and a 6pack of oil bribe) he'll probably be able to fix it for ya.

Nonono. When the robot modes were first installed, for an hour or so, before choosing the robot form, I had the opportunity to select from the Deception's list. After you chose the robot mode, it reverted back to the Bot's list of alts.

(It's a good thing, I jsut can't reset because I'd loose what I gained)
