Here's a good match-up I think. Both are genius-level characters, and keep their opponents on their toes. L takes on Prof. Moriarty [classic novel version for the prof.] in Old England, where he has the support of Scotland Yard. L replaces Sherlock Holmes throughout the run of the novels. Can he beat Holmes for sheer efficiency and take down Moriarty before the events of Reinbach Falls?

L will win.

Not so sure. His cockyness allows L to lead him on an awful lot.

Moriarty is a different form of old-school from a different time. This is his home ground, while L really likes to use cameras and high-tech equipment while he hides behind the scenes. And he doesn't think the same as people in the 20th century. I could see him being very dangerous.

L used mostly his mind to fight the superier Light.

The gadgets were a lesser role in his game.

L, no contest.

L gets my vote. He could even use his different aliases to confound Moriarty.
