I was reading my mate's Tyranids Codex a few days ago (I used to collect them when I was 13 or so, but dropped it when I realised my models didn't quite match up to any other models shown in the codexes and the magazine ); the three Hive Fleet assault stories to be specific.

Having finished reading all three stories, I asked myself, "Who can beat these guys? I mean, permanently exterminate them?"

The Tyranids have a few major advantages working in their favour:
1. An unimaginable number of 'Nids. I'm talking about an absolute nightmarish amount...
2. The incredible ability to almost instantaneously evolve (once consumed, the victim's DNA can be assimilated into the Tyranid's, creating an effectively stronger, faster, durable, etc. specimen).
3. Genestealers able to subtlely spread their seed, infecting the targeted population and eventually transforming them into hybrids or Genestealers. From there, they can call the actual Tyranid fleet to the planet through psychic links.
4. The survival of exterminatus (two known instances).

Those significant factors alone have convinced me that the Tyranids are indeed the most powerful race in the 40k universe, and I believe it would only be a matter of time before they ultimately desolate all worlds and races to extinction.

Of course, I don't know diddly squat about Warhammer, so I'm open to all responses.

Well the Orks are doing all right since the nids entered one of their systems, thanks to the imperium 'herding' them into it. think of them now like big green tyranic war vertrans of the smurfs but these guys get bigger

I've always been somewhat familiar with all the races/armies, but it wasn't until yesterday (a little while after I posted this thread, actually) that I scoped out the Orks on that 40k Wiki. I knew the Orks were a strong and resilient bunch, but I didn't realise just how successful they were at adapting and surviving, and how their numbers may possibly be only second to that of the Tyranids.

Herding the 'Nids into the Ork system may not have been the best idea. Consider the second half of this paragraph from the Codex:

But I definitely know what you're saying, Omaga. The Orks just may be the most powerful army in the 40k universe. *Thinking emoticon*

Seriously, those undead robots that can survive onslaughts from a Space Marine Land Raider are the greatest. I haven't really read much in the novels or anything, but in the Dawn of War RTS game, Necrons seriously pwn.

Space Marines are cool too. After all, they're humans, and you gotta vote for your home world.

chaos is pretty vecious. and the chaos marines more so. think id have to give them my vote.

True on all accounts but Orks get bigger the more they fight so the harder they'er hit they harder the hit back.

As for the Necron argument, the Orks were bred to defeat the Necrons both through the material universe and from the warp. also Gork and Mork can both give the chaos gods a good run.
