I have to chuckle a bit I was want to complain that the Dinbots were candy colours and looked like Dino-sentai (as Emgo calls them) but now I look at a whole line of mostly Gray and I really miss the colour now.
I hope the Bumblebee-Movie toyline has some colour in it (and not just yellow).
It seems a little deranged to make the whole line in shades of gray when you think about it - look at ROTF the characters were all sorts of colours then - why not now ?
I guess I should blame Bay for being colour phobic on some characters. even characters who are not grey like Hound look kinda washed out. Even Drift is partly Black, Hotrod in 85% Black too - Megatron has no colour to speak of on him either so he kinda looks generic. even the dragon is dark grey.
Now as I said I do appreciate the more subtle tones on the Dinobots and the Wei Jiang Black Knight OS KO Dinobots are absolutely on my to buy list this year. But really #TransformersSoGray.
It is kinda the main problem with the aesthetic and realistic alt-modes imo. I'm not all 'GEEWUN IS 100% BETTER', but when they do those G1-themed repaints of the movie toys (like how the first movie done a repaint of Jazz in his old whites and stripes), I just find they look so much better because they've suddenly got a lot of colour and vibrancy to them. Of course a lot of that is just my personal aesthetic taste, but I find it a bit better than a ton of washed-out grey robots blending into each other. I'll take that red scorn over the grey Takara repaint any day
It does work for some though. Infernocus makes it WORK
