Transformers IDW comic book artist, Nick Roche, recently sat down with interviewer, Chris Ryall, from IDWeek to discuss his popular Transformers: Spotlight Kup. Nick describes the character selection process along with his grim storyboard ideas. Nick also explains his unique rendering style for the book, which added to Kup's character and overall theme.
Chris Ryall had this to stay:
Roche had an idea for the character, who was last used to any degree of prominence in the ‘80s Transformers animated movie. His proposal was sound, and we agreed to let him take a shot at “auteur” status on this one. The story is not only grimmer than many Transformers titles, but it also features a unique art style that reflects Kup’s damaged state of mind (and you Outback fans might want to approach this story with a wary eye, too). It’s probably the closest we’ve come to offering a “Transformers zombies” tale.

The scene where they introduced the --ah, reinforcement-- was heartwarming. This wasn't just an exciting Transformers tale, it had a lot of character and heart, and not because Kup is one of my favorite Transformers.
The Grimlock and Prowl idea is intriguing for a humor story, and Roche's art style would complement the comedic feel of the characters involved. If they were cadets, it could feature Kup as their instructor.

Arrgh! why does the comic store have to be so far away. I won't be able to get this one till Escalation 6 comes out next week.

I really liked the book, and started a thread in the comics forum about it, if you want to chime in, in more detail (spoiler style), about the comic.
I found it really different, and surprising...
