Masterpiece Magnus? Oh my god, yes please! I don't even really have a specific place for it in my collection, but if Hasbro releases this domestically for a more reasonable price, I will be all over it!

That's cool, kinda figures though. MP line is only going to be the heavy hitters they think will sell, which only makes sense.

I highly doubt we see a full 1984 lineup as MP. They will probably move on to season 3 characters and non-g1.

That is probably all the MP's for next year then... It makes me really wonder if I should just pull the trigger on Quakewave. I really want to know if this is something Hastak can not get the rights for.

Weapon: Battle Blades
Good price considering how much MP-10 was at release, and how much more this will (theoretically) do. Curious to see the direct import price though :)

That's actually an old tweet from Shogo back when MP-10 first came out. It's an MP-10 with a carved G1 Ultra Magnus trailer strapped on.

As for future MP's I've heard they will galvanize the fandom, not to mention shock us and create a lot of waves.

What do you mean? They've been focusing primarily on the '84 lineup, and doing retools for characters in other seasons or series to help generate additional revenue and keep this line profitable. Name 1 non-'84 lineup character who isn't a retool or redeco of a previous MP... you can't, right?

From what I understand, Takara has been having trouble negotiating the rights for the Shockwave design from the Korean company that created it. Hopefully we'll see him in the pipeline.

Yeah there were strong hints that a Galvatron was coming next, I guess this was a response to the 3rd party MP Magnus.

I would really love an official Shockwave though....

If they did a Galvatron, that would be the first time since the MP reboot that they created a brand new mold for a non-84 character. Exciting!

And I sincerely hope Shockwave is soon. I've resisted Quake Wave for that very reason.

I don't think they're making a Shocky now. I was when we were on the one digits, but now we're 13 figures over. He's one of the more popular :CON: , and he would've been one of the earlier releases. I would rather have a Galv than a shocky, and same with megs, Galv has to be my favorite con, but back on track, the original design is owned by another company and so we all know how hard it is for the companies to share. Hasbro is not letting companies doing what they're doing (For example, Big lots KO's).

You could count Ultra Manus as half since he was an 86 figure, but had the main body from Optimus. Basically Optimus in a mech. Powermaster are an entirely diffrent thing

Right. I can't name one.

Grimlock.
Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime.

That's two.

Not to say I don't agree that recently they've been concentrating on the '84 line-up... But the MP line has had non-'84 molds before.

Yes, but they started out with Sideswipe really only because he was a red sports Lambo that they thought would sell. This is a business and they will only put out the most profitable characters they think will sell the most. That is why I guess a full 1984 lineup is kind of a pipedream.

This line will lose steam before they can release all of them.

I meant since the reboot... which started with MP-10.

Grimlock and Rodimus don't count ;)

It is hard to imagine how Takara could substantially improve on Quakewave, which I bought. The quality is excellent and looks and feels like an official product. It actually feels more sturdy and heavy than MP-13 Soundwave.

I am sure Takara could come up with a great and perhaps better design, but it is hard for me to imagine how they could make it substantially better to convince me to buy it. Fans Toys just nailed it with Quakewave!

Grimlock and Rodimus don't count ;)

Sure they do! Calling it a "reboot" is dumb. The only figure I'd consider rebooted is Optimus Prime himself, and (although we don't have a replacement for him yet) perhaps Megatron, who was designed to scale in robot mode with the MP-1 mold.

The fact that the MP-10 was designed in part to scale with MP-9 Rodimus shows to me that as far as the folks at Takara are concerned, the older figures still exist.

Image

If we had to consider any point a "reboot," I'd say it started with MP-6. Before that was only MP-1 and its recolors, MP-5 Megatron, and of course the poorly colored MP-3 Starscream. (Obviously, the MP-3 mold is good enough that, in a slightly modified form, it is still being used! But Takara realized their error with coloration, hence MP-11.)

(It is tricker to figure things out in Hasbro's view, as obviously we have their wonderful unnumbered release of the MP-10 mold, but then their next releases were MP-1 Acid Storm and MP-2 Soundwave...? So I'd say ignore numbering when it comes to domestic releases...)

(Edit: Looking at the TFWiki, they state the line as considered to be rebooted, but starting with MP-9. If this is the case, then... Well, I can still at least name one non-'84 figure who is a new mold, then! But really, the MP-8 mold is great and looks just fine with MP-9 or MP-10, so if you still say Grimlock doesn't count that's as stupid as... well... Grimlock!)

warzon3 wrote:Yes, but they started out with Sideswipe really only because he was a red sports Lambo that they thought would sell. This line will lose steam before they can release all of them.

While I wouldn't be surprised if they never release all of them, they'll certainly get a majority of them, I'd think.

Let's take a look at the '84 Autobot line-up. It was separated into three segments. Mini-Cars, Cars, and Autobot Commander. That last one is pretty easy. Heck, MP Prime's been done twice.

Looking at Cars, we have the following. Crossed out ones have been done or are known to be coming:

Bluestreak
Hound
Ironhide
Jazz
Mirage
Prowl
Ratchet
Sideswipe
Sunstreaker
Trailbreaker
Wheeljack

Now, this is all supposition, but trying to look at it from a business point of view... Ironhide and Ratchet should hopefully be no brainers, as any figure with an easy redesign should be attractive to them. Likewise, Trailbreaker could give them a Hoist.

That leaves Hound, Jazz, Mirage, and Sunstreaker. These guys have less obvious repaints which I'm sure Takara will be happy to exploit, but would be less likely to appeal to everyone. Still, I'd consider them big enough characters to not writ them off.

Now, for the mini-cars, the only one we know is coming is Bumblebee. It wouldn't be the easiest re-use in the world, as it would take pretty much a complete reshelling, but I can't conceive of them having designed Bumblebee without also having Cliffjumper in mind.

I would perhaps worry about Brawn, Gears, Huffer, and Windcharger. I can't see the mini-cars getting as much love as the full-sized cars. But you never know! The Masterpiece line has been full of excellent surprises lately!

As far as Decepticons... If you still count MP-5, then the line-up is complete! If not, then you're just missing Megatron. (And many people have a hard time thinking they won't re-do him eventually.)

I'm going to have to disagree with you, Yotsuyasan.

No one said the older figures don't exist. And no one said that MP-10 wasn't made to scale with Rodimus.

BUT - and this is a big but - the codification of scale began with MP-10, which was the point at which Takara decided to refocus and make Masterpiece a staple product line. You might think calling it a reboot is dumb, but I doubt Takara would; the launch of MP-10 represented a reboot in both the company strategy and the figures themselves.

You also forgot to mention that Grimlock and Rodimus are out of scale in 50% of their modes. Grimlock is completely out of robot scale, and Rodimus, if configured as Hot Rod, is completely out of scale with MP-10 in both modes. Point: reboot!

Feel free to disagree, but I've got my opinions, and I'm sticking to them :-B

Or even an official announcement, which from memory we have even to get regarding MP-20 and MP-21. Until then, this is nothing more than a rumour.

Re: Scale -- As ever with Transformers, that is a useless argument. By your reasoning of a reboot starting with MP-10, then MP-11 would be part of that and thus should be a consistent scale. My, what a tiny jet he is.

And scale is absolutely impossible to keep consistent once they started doing Soundwave and his cassettes. After all, toys can't mass shift. Unless you're telling me that Soundwave just decided to be a really freaking huge cassette player!

In this case, I think we really can only look at robot mode for scale. And by that, I still think Rodimus and Grimlock fit.

Now, I know you and I shall not agree on this. And I don't wish to keep going on about it in a thread that is supposed to be (in part) about MP-22, and not the Masterpiece line as a whole... But one more (tongue in cheek) comment before I let it go... If the line rebooted, why is Takara still following the numbering established with MP-1? I don't see other reboots doing that... They didn't call the 2003 television series, "Galactica II: Starbuck's Sex Change," for example.

Takara has stated that they rebooted the line with MP 10, MP 10 is the MP 1 of the reboot, which is precisely why MP 11 is a heavy remold of MP 3 Starscream. They wouldn't have bothered to release a new and improved version of Starscream if they still considered the previous releases to be part of the reboot, especially since they already did a G1 deco of Starscream.
Adding to that, Takara is doing the reboot right, by not only trying to be as screen accurate as possible, but also scaling the bot-modes to be in scale with each other relative to the show.

You mean "In 2011, the line can be considered to have been rebooted; first with Rodimus Prime, and followed with a new-mold Optimus Prime scaled to Rodimus's height".
http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-new ... ce-174660/
Here it's clearly stated that MP 10 is the herald of the line's future.
Grimlock does not fit, he's two heads shorter than Optimus, while it should be the other way around. We'll very likely get a new Grimlock (I would be happy with a scaled up and slightly changed version of the MP 8 mold, since it's pretty damn awesome other than the size.

They'll be doing them all, that's one of the big selling points of this line, especially considering that all can be repainted/ remolded into something.
Now, this is all supposition, but trying to look at it from a business point of view... Ironhide and Ratchet should hopefully be no brainers, as any figure with an easy redesign should be attractive to them. Likewise, Trailbreaker could give them a Hoist.

If the motivation to make a toy was that it appeals to "everyone", well then we wouldn't get a single toy ever. I mean to how many does G2 Sideswipe appeal to? Not to me, oh well so they won't be making it then, sorry guys.
Now, for the mini-cars, the only one we know is coming is Bumblebee. It wouldn't be the easiest re-use in the world, as it would take pretty much a complete reshelling, but I can't conceive of them having designed Bumblebee without also having Cliffjumper in mind.

All those are going to be simple little guys, they where tiny in the show, plus again easy repaint/ remold fodder.
As far as Decepticons... If you still count MP-5, then the line-up is complete! If not, then you're just missing Megatron. (And many people have a hard time thinking they won't re-do him eventually.)

Hasbro MP TC was imported by Takara, leaving just Skywarp to get redone, which they'll be holding off on for a while. Pretty sure we'll be getting a new Megatron as well, he's one of the biggest names and most popular characters, so he's a no-brainer.

The only guys who'll be super hard to do are the giants like Omega Supreme and co, I seriously can't see them getting MP releases taking the current aim of the line into consideration, dudes'll be freaking huge.
