For sake of clarity, Transformers are made only by Hasbro or TakaraTomy (with some imports from other companies in 1985), but they were only part of the transforming robot craze (or Super Robots) of the 70's and 80's.
In Japan, Bandai was the big boy when it comes to robot toys (and still is), with the Chogokin (super alloy) line of die cast toys being their hallmark. Voltes V was one of them, released in 1978 along with its own animated series,
Choudenji Machine Voltes V.
What you have there is the imported US version, part of the Godaikin line in 1983, which has a handful of those Chogokin robots. To be precise it's the bigger DX version.
