So, a friend of mine has a birthday coming up in a couple months, and he really wants a Voltes V toy. I personally am not familiar with Voltes V and what the toys are like, which one's the best version, and what's a reasonable price. Anyone have any tips on what to look for and where to find one? He did send me this link, but that's all I have to go on.

With any Popy/Bandai-made mecha you can go in two directions: go for the original Chogokin/Godaikin releases, or the Masterpiece like Soul of Chogokin release. With Voltes V, there were two Soul releases, and the one you were linked to is the better of the two, if only because it has a feature the original Soul release didn't have (because it was never featured in the anime). If you have the choice, go for the second one.

As for the original Chogokin releases, there are two of them: the transforming ST (Standard) and the combining DX (Deluxe). You can check those out with the links below:

ST Voltes V
DX Voltes V

You may luck out with the DX one, as that one's released in the domestic Godaikin line by Bandai America.
