Why do you keep calling the Thrilling 30 Orion Pax toy an Aligned toy?

It was based on Guido Guidi's Orion Pax design from Spotlight: Blurr, first published by IDW in 2008, two whole years before the first pieces of Aligned media ever saw release (heck, even before ROTF came out).

Faulty memory, that's why; I was getting it mixed up with the WFC Optimus from 2010. My bad. #-o Feel free to smack me. I blame overload and the fact that FoC toys were lingering at the same time T30 came out. The point that it doesn't really work for resembling cartoon Orion still stands tho.

However, the side note isn't talking about the toys but rather the characters. If memory served Aligned "Orion Pax" recycled the archivist backstory that came from Optronix, the original G1 comics' version of "Optimus Prime before he was Optimus Prime," and I knew for certain 2019 IDW had done the same. Double-checking the wiki, I was right about the Aligned version.

Optronix was from Dreamwave, but yes, he was the archivist. They merged the Orion Pax name from the cartoon with the archivist job from Dreamwave, "aligning" the two together. Apparently, most preferred the "Orion Pax" name anyway since "Optronix" never caught on outside of Dreamwave and a few other very obscure things from the 2000s. IDW 2019 probably went with "Orion Pax as an archivist" too because it's his standard backstory now.

When you say "probably" do you mean that's "probably" his backstory, or that's "probably why" they went with it as his backstory?

If it's the former, it indeed is his backstory. He was just a beefy damn archivist.

I don't see how it could be read as anything other than the latter.

That's why I asked, because it wasn't clear to me which you meant based on your wording. I can understand that sentence in two different ways, as I laid out.

Had I written what you said I would have said "IDW went with 'Orion Pax as an archivist' too probably because it's his standard backstory now" emphasizing that they are using that backstory, with the conjecture secondary to the idea. And mind you, I'm not criticizing, just seeking clarity based on how a sentence can be interpreted more than one way in the English language.

Megatron as a gladiator was from Marvel UK (where Optimus and Sunstreaker were gladiators too). Dreamwave reiterated it, and then IDW added the miner bit. Aligned merged it all together and now it's his standard backstory.

Recent years have shown Hasbro wanting a sense of consistency across the board (Cyberverse season 1 having Bumblebee amnesiac and radio-speaking to align with the Bumblebee movie, the Allspark being launched from Cybertron in both it and the Netflix WFCT cartoon, other elements from the movies and Aligned in both cartoons and the recent comics) in order to give Transformers a more definitive identity like other properties over the years have had (e.g. - the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents spur him to become Batman, the guilt over Uncle Ben's murder spurs Peter Parker to become Spider-Man, the baby Kal-El is sent to Earth from a dying Krypton to become Superman, Steve Rogers becomes Captain America in WWII and awakens in the modern day after being frozen in ice for years, etc.).

Of course, each medium is still free to choose their own direction and details that greatly differ from each other (Ascenticons are IDW2-original, Maximals and Predacons ruled by Galvatron and Optimus-turned-evil Nemesis Prime in an alternate "bad ending" future is Netflix-original, Quintessons as multiversal judges is Cyberverse-original, etc.) so long as the broad strokes remain the same (Optimus was Orion Pax the archivist, Megatron was a miner-turned-gladiator-turned-political revolutionary, etc.).

I am SO all in and then some on modern updates of the 3H era BotCon Beast Wars characters. Gimme that Fractyl, Packrat, Antagony, and Sandstorm.

This news is especially good timing since I'm currently in the midst of giving a full overhaul to the Wiki's Beast Era timeline page, which includes all of the 3H BotCon stories that these characters starred in.[/shamelessplug]

So we're going to give priority to a few characters who a small number of the fanbase actually cares about and was basically glorified fan-fiction as opposed to late-G1 characters who have yet to receive ANY form of modern update?

Oh well, saving more money I guess.
And here come the haters to correct me on my own opinion...

I only quoted you because I couldn't read the tiny text. I have no opinion on your opinion.

My opinion is, other than Cosmos, we couldn't get any other minibots?? Not even Gears?

I'll be playing pick and choose with this lineup, but there are some I'll be picking up.

No hate here. I understand the frustration with the lineup. But I could kind of see it coming. Hasbro needs to get their money's worth from the new BW molds and recreating previous Botcon exclusives is a way to do it. None of these really interest me, I'll just patiently await some news of something I am interested in.

What I find odd is that they are doing even more retailer exclusives as opposed to Selects. I guess one can never tell anymore how something is going to get released.

Not gonna lie, I'm surprised that the biggest critique people have of this list is that the characters aren't higher profile? Like, the biggest complaint from Earthrise was that allegedly high-profile G1 characters were exclusives and therefore hard-to-get, and early in this thread people weren't happy about Cosmos being exclusive, so people now wanting more Minibots and characters that require new molds as exclusives confuses me.

More details:
-Sandstorm allegedly has the mutant mask
-Nightprowler allegedly does NOT have the mutant mask, and is listed as a Deluxe so he will be from the Cheetor mold as opposed to Tigatron
-One of the accessories in the pack with the Red Cog is the arm blade Jetfire had in the WFC cartoon

I think there is by a difference. I enjoy obscure Japanese characters, and late Original series 1988-1992. However while some might consider Botcon characters also obscure, some consider them little more than fan fiction characters.

Wonder if they'll mention the Zodiac in BW Sandstorm's bio.

...Heck, wonder if they'll make figures of the rest of the Zodiac at some point; they've been picking more obscure characters and alternate iterations each time. If anything, at least there's variety for the collectors.

Though hopefully not before proper Thirteen figures.

I'll probably get most of the things from the list, might pass on some of the simpler repaints like BB Terrorsaur and Walmart Blurr if they aren't that much different from the original releases.

Cosmos is believed to be a retooled (or shared tool) Origins Bumblebee, right? Not sure how well that'll work...

Finally a proper red Cog to go with Grand Maximus! Now we just need a new Deluxe Scamper to finish off the city bots the right way.

All these Botcon repaints make me really wish we got Polar Claw in Kingdom, then we'd be hearing about Grizzly-1 and Survive repaints about now. I'd prefer PC and G-1 with the mutant head and Survive with the regular bot head.

Grizzly-1's whole gimmick is that he uses both faces for each of his split-personalities, so ideally the mold should have one head with two faces front-and-back like the original, letting fans choose which face they'd like to use for each redeco while also keeping Grizzly-1's original character quirk intact.

Indeed. And by that logic, anything that is not the OG G1 Sunbow english cartoon is "fanfiction".

Not much on that list really interests me other than Alpha Trion, I've always wanted a version that wasn't overly sized and goofy looking, specifically one that looked like his G1 appearance. Though I can see how it might be trouble to transform. What I don't care for is him being in a 2-pk with Orion Pax who I don't really care for. I don't know what molds they plan to utilize for these two figures but it has my interest piqued.

Also interested in the Buzzworthy multipack Goldbug and hope that it's the Walmart version painted gold!

So Cosmos is coming then? I'm not sure hw that would work either because those two are drastically different but I guess as long as he looks accurate a new version would be nice and keep me from paying over $30 for the Legends figure. The only issue is that he'll be out of scale with the other minibots I already have such as Seaspray, Beachcomber and potentially Powerglyde. If I ever pull the trigger on that purchase.
Unfortunately he's a Walmart Exclusive and I'm 1/whatever for actually getting it from Walmart, Elita-1 was that one and was easy. The others I had to get from ebay or Mercari.
