Weapon: Thermal Sword
Just picked up Airrazor today, and I have to say she is WONDERFUL. Her wings are probably my favorite and least favorite part about her because they're so posable. It's great that she can pull off fairly nice looking poses in beast mode, and even extend that to bot mode, but they're definitely going to take some practice to get them to consistently look good

Because the G1 Megatron toy came with a gun that looked vaguely like the ones that are coming with Galvatron which also (intentionally) looks like Galvatron's ship the Revenge.

So I was watching a retro review of Warhammer Space Marine and Dawn of War on Worth a Buy @ Youtube and realized that games were in general a lot better 10 something years ago than the AAA titles we have today. Half finished, micro transactions, season passes, sh*t AI, bugs etc. Games were better and more polished years ago. Something's also to be said for movies, the new Terminator, Star Wars, Predator and the list goes on. Great years ago and totally garbage now.

Then I look at my favorite franchise and the reason why I need my own room in my house because I have too many boxes of Transformers.

Does this seemingly rigid format also apply to Transformers toys?
In one word I can say no. Transformers have been progressivly better overall over the years. Sure there have been some dents along the way, Fall of Cybertron Jazz and Grimlock were made of the plastic butter is put in in the grocery stores. And Dark of the Moon voyagers were kind of small and lacking. However, looking at the Unicron Trilogy, started with solid but somewhat dopey designs and little articulation led up to Cybertron with good articulation and solid big, heavy bots.

Classics was a great step up and went on to do even beter in Generations. The movie bots were fresh and I think the peak of those lines was Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime. Huge, complex, screen accurate in both modes and a great solid bot. A Leader Class indeed.

Then came Combiner Wars, we finally got our combiners. Sure there was some remolding and some torso's could be better. But we got them as good as all, nobody ever thought we would get deluxe-voyager combiners on this scale. Then Titans Return, with a huge array of great deluxe sized Transformers with the cool and extra playability adding Headmasters. Topping that of with Power of the Primes with Matrix upgraded bigger bots and more combiners.

And now we have the War for Cybertron trilogy, not to mix up with the game which is great. I recommend every gamer Transformers fan who hasn't played it to try it out. Solid gameplay, great voice acting and a fun story. Siege continued the almost flawless deluxe figures, looking at you Sideswipe. Finally a great Optimus and Megatron voyager sized again. Followed up by Earthrise, we got our G1 Ironhide people. And now a fresh go at Beast Wars going for screen accuracy.

I'm mostly typing this for myself because it's fun. But my point is, Transformers have gotten better and better. And the quality of functional and visual design is steady. Sure there is always a nitpick and sometimes a true flaw in some bot and something could be said for pricing and exclusivity. But these toys are great, almost tiny masterpieces for acceptable prices.

In my opinion, what Hasbro/Takara made the past couple of years is good to great to awesome and the majority being great. I remember being excited for Encore Ironhide with the third party flip out head on top guys. I imagined Car Brothers Prowl to be G1 Prowl. Now we have G1 Prowl.

I'm glad I'm not a Thundercats n1 fan for the failed reboot and those Super 7 prices.

Ontopic, Galvatron looks good. Maybe better than Titans Return which was a good enough Galvatron if they would never make any new one. The guns are a nice touch but I'm not getting Haslab Unicron, I don't need a third child in the house.

RE Colours: I'm pretty sure Rodimus and Galvatron have both fallen victim to a.. fluid, colour palette over the years. Not just via Sunbow either.

So how long do we expect after the release of The Ultimate Transformer before he gets a Grey redeco release in Selects?

I'm more curious about who will initiate it. "Galvatron II" has been TakaraTomy-only with the G1 reissue and Unite Warriors.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

- Jelze Bunnycat =:3

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

If Hasbros Galvatron sucks we might get an upscaled new ages version with the fat suit at some point. Though I havent seen any reviews of New Age Darius with his Unicron bits as yet with the few reviews out just being of the figure.

As much as I've said before that if it had been localised, I likely would have watched (and probably loved) the Takara Series back in the day. What they did to my absolute favourite G1 Transformer... I would have liked a lot less.

True. But that visual, combined with his "death by the power of friendship" wouldn't have gone over well at all with a young SuperRobot.

It never actually happened though. It was just a vision of an ambition that Galvatron had in a single episode. Kids in Japan though were probably even more confused seeing as how the movie had not yet been released, and the series intro only explained that Convoy and Megatron had fallen in battle and that Rodimus and Galvatron were the new leaders in 2011. Although I guess kids could piece together that there was definitely something they missed since Sunbow's season 3 was their "Transformers 2010", so they would have seen a little bit of Unicron, but just not be able to fully understand what happened.

I mean I can't speak from that perspective because I was able to see the movie in the summer of 1986, as did several of my peers. Anyone who didn't and was confused by Season 3's dramatic shift in characters was quickly quickly brought up to speed on the playground. ;)

Honestly, I think we all would have been better off with that less involved version. Circa an early draft of the script, wherein Megatron simply reached the gun first and fired. There was no third party. The uppercut still happened. Prime died and Megs did a deal with the devil to save his own hide.

As for Kingdom though, do the Fossilisers work with the G1 figures or only the Beast Formers? I've yet to see too many reviews that even try to connect them to anyone else at all.

It is more challenging to get the Fossilizers to work with the BW characters because they have far fewer 5MM ports, but it is possible. I've seen some nice pics actually of a pretty cool armor for Primal using paleotrex, inspired by the promotional art.

I think you mean "aesthetic" reasons, though I'm sure there are some fans who would never mix G1 and BW figures due to rigorous religious discipline.

The movie itself may not have yet been released at the time, but its events were definitely told to Japanese kids in 1986-1987 (concurrent to 2010's Japanese broadcast) via TV magazine's story pages. They called the events the "Unicron War".
