Okay, so my views on this story seem to be evolving, and I guess I really won't be able to put pen to paper until its all said and done. To suffice, I'm very happy with and enjoying the story, but disappointed it might not be going the way I'd prefer.

Megatron is a destroyer. He wrecks ****, and wrecks it good. I just really want to see him unleash all that power on and enemy that, for once, really truly deserves it. We got a taste of it with the final DJD battle, but I want more. I don't know if that is the direction Roberts is taking the character, but that is what I want. That said, I've come to appreciate what is happening, and will be well pleased either way.

Personally, I'm still not fully sold on his change of heart, I think that he is still tired, but maybe Ravages' death, combined with the return of terminus, has deeply effected him, and he might finally really be changing. Roberts has done an amazing thing, and really made me care about Megatron. Not in a awesome character way, but more in actually being invested in his growth and direction way. Megatron is interesting in a way he has never been before.

All that said, I still don't see his pacifist attitude lasting too much longer in a Functionist universe. I mean, c'mon, did you see the way he ripped his restraints apart like tin foil? Megs will bust some fusion caps in some asses. I declare it.

I'm a little surprised at this statement, as you then say other things in the rest of the comment - but it's very heartening to see the change in your own perspective as the narrative and character develop!

Personally, I find the tension (narrative, dramatic, potentially social) of a non-violent character in a violently oppressive setting extremely intriguing - and very fitting to certain current discourses around protest and disobedience - and I'm very interested to see how this might work out.

(I'm not sure 'pacifist' is the right term, but I'm not happy on 'non-violent' either. So let's accept both, and keep it as a semantic point.)

I like seeing a different type of leadership, once again compared to Rodimus' style, and Optimus' own one too (plus Starscream and Windblade, really, too), and seeing it explored fairly well so far, with personal and collective both at stake.

There was another point I wanted to make, but I am running late for another thing, so will come back to this later!

It is honestly really bizarre to see Terminus' reactions to Megatron just because of how much it contrasts with how everyone else has known him. It's almost humourous but it's also why it's so good; given how Roberts has written Megatron's past I honestly think Terminus is a really cool and interesting inclusion.

Some thoughts from over at the Oilhouse: http://oldoilhouse.weebly.com/home/the-measure-of-a-man

The serious problems I find when comics write redemption arcs is the general lack of real examination of the perspective of the former villain and the inevitable return to badness they will undergo, usually within a year or two. Magneto, often trotted out as the greatest supervillain/anti-hero of all time, backpedals so much I’ve simply grown to ignore any attempt at seriousness on the part of the most recent writer to re-invent him. Megatron on the other hand absolutely absorbed me.

This is an interesting thought, from McFeely.

I don't think it'll happen but I'd be okay if Megatron and Terminus didn't come back from the Functionist Universe.

Not "didn't come back" in the sense that they died, but in the sense that him staying behind to fight the war "the right way," with the one guy at his side whose voice might've made a difference the first time, seems like a very logical jumping off point for the character after his arc came to a conclusion at the end of season 2. Further, it liberates the book - basically everything (except Cyclonus and Tailgate) operated in his orbit in s2, and with his arc at an end that really can't keep happening, but it's hard to imagine him in the series in a reduced capacity because he's frigging Megatron. And I mean, obviously, the pair of 'em would come back for the season finale.

I really think Megatron's journey in the Functionist universe could have been told in much more detail. If the right writer were to do it, showing Megatron getting a 2nd chance at revolution (this time through the right means and for the right reasons) could be its own series. I admit, at 1st I was very skeptical of the entire concept of "Autobot Megatron" but it was done well, save for the ending of Dying of the Light. I think his turn is a very interesting subject in that just because he renounced his old ways, does that mean he's no longer responsible for all the murder and destruction the Decepticons caused? And if he is to be punished, how severely? Is doing things the right way in the Functionist universe enough to validate his freedom, much less his life? I know some of these questions have been answered, but I think it's still something to contemplate.

P.S. I think IDW should start a book titled "Autobot Megatron." Just don't let Roberts write it.

In the Functionist universe, is he still considered an Autobot? Or since he went back to start the revolution did he revert back to calling himself a Decepticon again?

Although I would have killed Megatron in Dying of the light, as his last act of redemption being saving his new crew from the final and worst vestigals of his legacy, I also am glad he got written out. As much as I loved his arc in series 2, it did turn into the Megatron show. Moving him out was the right choice. And I too would be happy if he never returns to our universe. I would also love to read an ongoing about his cause in the Functionist universe and see how he's doing things there. We know he'll come back in a few years, but I honestly can't see any feasable way he can go bad. I can see him going bad on the Functionists, if they capture him, torture him, break him to the point his anger and rage takes hold again. But if he comes back to our universe? I can't see him being bad in that.

Look back at his early days. His original plan was to have a normal life, work hard and socialise with friends. The extremism came from his desire to root out widespread corruption in Transformer society. The Decepticon movement became a massive trap for him, all-consuming.

If the Transformers had not been so corrupt, Megatron's life would've been very different.
