Almost finished with A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness.
That book is seriously amazing. It's a young adult/pre-teen novel, and it packs a punch and a half.

I'm also going through volume 1 of IDW Transformers Classics UK.
Wow, the artwork and storytelling are actually pretty astonishing!

I've been considering Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Thoughts?

I really want to get into that, but I want to have the time to read them all consecutively.
So not until at least this summer, if that.

I have heard really good things about it though!

Currently re-reading the Vengeance of Venom TPB.
I might have to read American Vampire again, too.

I'm reading it now. I'm only about 20 pages in but I like it so far. Reminds me of the Eye of the Dragon, one of my favorite books of his.

I just read Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. That was a truly great book.

The Valiant Comics relaunch last May has been awesome!!
If you aren't familiar they were the 3rd/4th largest comic company in the 90's. They jumped Image a few times.
Then late 90s/early '00 they became Acclaim and went bankrupt about '04.

They are back under new ownership and have 5 titles out:
XO Manowar
Harbinger
Bloodshot
Archer & Armstrong
Shadowman

All good reads but XO is a GREAT read imo, better than 2/3 of what Marvel or DC is putting out.

Weapon: Twin Independent Mounted Disruptor Rays
Sorry to report that Solar, Magnus and Turok will not be appearing any time soon(if at all) in the relaunched Valiant Universe. Those characters were, and still are, owned by another publishing firm and were leased out to Valiant. If the relaunch maintains its momentum and sales are stable the new ownership has teased their own interest in pursuing at least one of the characters to return. Again, they'd have to lease the character unless they could manage to out right buy the rights from the current copyright holder.

The current relaunch, while only having 5 titles, has introduced other popular character concepts such as Ninjak(in XO), Eteranl Warrior and Ivar the Timewalker(Archer&Armstrong), Geomancer(A&A) and Dr.Mirage(Shadowman) into the new Valiant. The summer event seems to be teasing H.A.R.D. Corps as a possibility to emerge.

Catching up on the whole run of the Italian series Rat-Man!

Once I'm on the plane, though, I'll go back to reading China Mieville - Embassytown.

I've recently been rereading one of my favorite book series, The Southern Victory Series/Timeline-191 by Harry Turtledove, and I just can't recommend them enough. The premise of the series is a reimagining of history, starting with the South winning the civil war and it's repercussions through the mid 1940's/WW2. Now there is some very hateful language and ideas in the series, but it really makes you think about how easy we can fall into blind hatred. So check them out if you want a good read.

Moving on with my reading list for teaching. Currently on Gissing's New Grub Street.

Next up:

Nabokov - Lolita
Carter - Nights at the Circus
Dunn - Up the Junction
Cowan - Pig
Levy - Swimming Home

If I can fit them in, I'd like to finally get round to Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking trilogy.

I've read bits of it, but it'll be interesting to see how it works with the other 'realist' texts we're doing. I enjoy Carter's writing usually, so I'm not worried about it.

And I want to see what my students make of it, really. :D

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "realist", or how a book about a flying women fits there.
