Was about to bring it up myself. I think it's been scientifically disproven, as the calendar doesnt "end", it "Resets" so that throws doomsday put the window, right?

Don't buy it myself, although under some of these scenarios, I would under water in 2012 (many of these scenarios, the new Mississippi flow into my backyard, not my entire state). So on the .0000000000000000245 % chances that it does happen and I become fish food, you Seibertronians have been great!

But... I thought the world ended in 1000. Or was it 1993. No, wait, 2000.
Hang on, it was in 2010, with the Rapture. Now you tell me it's 2012?

Someone make their mind up. I just started a PhD, and would like to know whether I should even bother.

Afterthought: does this mean I'll never have Mobine Chaos? :(

Way to constructively add to the conversation...

I have as much faith and belief in the Doomsday Prophecy as I do in the Bible.

They're both man-made.

It's crap. Do you know how many times the world was gunna to end? I even remember seeing a commercial for this company saying that when 2012 hits, if you donate money, they'll assure your survival. I hope they got shut down for trying to rob people. And have you seen this show? I forgot what it's called but these people "prepare" for some sort of apocalypse to happen. That's some funny stuff. But later in life when I have kids, I'm going to have them watch the movie 2012 and tell them "Your mom and I survived through that s***!"

Doomsday Preppers. I can't tell you how sorry I feel for them >:oP

Don't get me wrong, I respect their efforts to prepare for the worst, but to have it dominate your life? I can't bare to watch it.

And I seriously do not believe the world is going to end on such and such date. All just a very effective excuse to manipulate the folk for further one's own end. Ask me again in 5 billion years, give or take, when the Earth will plummet into the swollen dying Sun.

My Mom tells me Jesus could come back any day now. She's told me this all my life. Guess that's why I've never done anything with my life :P

Sarcasm: detected. Previous statement: still idiotic.

But I blame myself for expecting anything more.

I just watched 2012. I believe every minute of it. It will happen.

Being prepared for major disasters is just smart. Constantly preparing for an apocalypse simply because of a misinterpreted calender is just stupid. Especially since the civilization is actually still around, you'd think they'd be making a bigger fuss about it. You'd think a few of them would step up and say "Yeah, our calendar? That really is a doomsday clock."

I don't buy the 2012 thing, although if we make past 3000 AD, it will be a miracle. The preppers might be right about one thing, our technological civilization is way too fragile. One coronal mass ejection or electro-magnetic pulse and we are trouble. I wish our technology was a little tougher or we had better back up systems if our electronic circuity got fried.

Exactly. Mayans themselves have stepped forward, laughed about it and said "It's bullcrap! No!"

Just absolutely ridiculous. It's a shame so many people will believe the most horrible things, but next to none of good things, whether they be small or monumental. So many people wish to look at the darkness in the world. I have to wonder what's wrong with them.

A CME actually has hit Earth before, it knocked out the power in Quebec for nine hours in 1989. A nine-hour blackout isn't a world-threatening thing, I've been in one. it's boring as hell but I didn't die from it.

In 1989 most people had phones that didn't require the power grid to work. How many of us have such phones today? Could you imagine the number of secondary deaths that would result from a lengthy power outage without the ability to call for help.

Have you ever lived without modern day conveniences for any length of time Shadowman? What will you do for water, heat, food, protection? If you have a newer car how will you go get these things? If you can not access your bank account how will you pay for them? Will you rely on fema or other government agencies?

Unshielded computers run just about everything today. Just think if they all fried at once. Who gets first dibs on limited replacements, electricity suppliers, factories, water treatment plants, government, phone companies, hospitals?
