I guess i will have to find myself an orion pax then.
In the meantime, i would like to add MP wheeljack to this thread. Not in a while have i marvelled this much at a transformer, he is an absolutely perfect example of a robot in disguise. He feels hefty, has flawless kibble free modes which are also both accurate to a source. He has clearly dethroned animated lockdown for best car robot design though i will always marvel at prime vehicon's design simply for its brilliance at that price point.

WJ, do you have any of the Z car MP's?
I really like Jackie, but I'd be willing to debate this statement you made about him over in the Toy Haul thread, "best example of a car robot". Real friendly like of course.

Hey, I just noticed that I gave you some inspiring words! ;)

About MP Wheeljack, even if the toy is amazing, I don't have any emotional attachment to the character. If I ever find him live in store, I may impulse buy it, but not online. I have too much TF to buy in my sight right now.

I forgot if I mentioned it before, but I find the Universe Voyager Inferno mold to be one of the best TF mold ever. Perfect bot, perfect vehicle, simple but fun transformation. He's so great that I'm collecting every single releases of this mold. This include limited editions and repaints of the same character.

The only one I'm missing is United Grapple. I just need to sell one more thing and he's mine!

Not yet, but with all the mp releases and releases of that mold, it will come my way eventually. For example, I found a great opportunity on the mp lamor mold (not ko of course). I will see how it works out and compares to Wheeljack. What I really loved about Wheeljack was how his feet are formed and look like distinct robot legs rather than a piece of his car.

i was excluding MP's because... well every one of them is a work of art in a sense. however, id now like to nominate MP03 starscream.

as expected, he has a very intuitive transformation. very nice bot mode albeit not "geewun". and that realistic jet mode is damn near seamless. and now that i have 4 MP03 molds and 5 MP11 molds, i can say that the 03 mold is more structurally sound. i think only one of my MP11's fits together tightly cause of that damn sliding torso and chest/shoulders.

Maybe we SHOULD leave MP's out of this thread. It's kind of unfair to compare anything to these, well, masterpieces.

I have always had a fondness for Classics Mirage. So Sleek. So lanky. Dare I say, sexy?

I gotta say the Asia EX Optimus Prime 2.0 Masterpiece! I love it! It's got the best classic look, with the newest engineering! Smashing!

But I have to give it up for the best Leader Class Optimus Prime, which is Transformers Cybertron series Optimus. I love that one too!

I disagree.

MP is a line like any other, but with more budget. However, even in the MP like, there's average figures (MP-11) and bad figures (MP-05 and MP-09). MP Megatron is a mess and MP Rodimus have so many flaws, it's ridiculous. Both of these molds have their fans but still.

I agree that MP-03 is awesome and I kinda regret having sold my G1 colored screamers to finance my MP-11 (Torso don't lock and that figure is NOT worth 200$). Also, MP-01 and MP-10. Man, those two are INCREDIBLE!

MPs have every righ to be on this list and are a great tool to compare cheaper transformers too in terms of design. For example, I find that First Edition Prime Starscream and HFTD Leader Starscream shine by being perfect interpretations of their onscreen counterparts with minimal kibble and complex transformations. And to add to that, they cost less and have less of a budget than an MP 03 or MP 11 which makes their design process even more impressive in comparison. I actually preffer Classics Starscream over MP Starscream due to the back. I hate how the MP mold has the jet nose fold backwards, sticking out. It makes the toy more fiddly to due to the chest being made up of a bunch of holes and smaller parts being crammed in. Classics is much more solid and compact and looksvery close to the animation model with a simple transformation (I do find the visible nose cone a bit of a let down though.

Anyways, it was just to give an example of how MPs are fine in this thread and dont necessarily mean a better design. I also find that ROTF Optimus accomplished a greater design feat than MP 01, hence why I chose him for my best truck alt mode transformer.

And I find that Beast Wars Megatron (original and transmetal 2) are better tyranosaurus\dragon designs than MP 08 Grimlock, but once again that<s just my opinion.

The 2 MPs that will be on my best design list in terms of alt modes would be MP Wheeljack and MP 05 Megatron for best car and weapon alt mode. I love those guys.

alrighty, id like to throw this thread another curveball by including 3P figures!

i nominate, TW orion.

Image

i just got mine last night (and installed RF head replacement) and.... oh man... i almost cant describe the engineering involved in this figure. other than some thin (but apparently strong) tabs, he was a JOY to figure out and transform. and i can easily say he is more complex than MP10, though id say on par with MP09.

if youre not familiar with the figure i suggest youtubing a review and just watch the transformation. its really something.

@ shajaki

I'm with you. I do not own Orion, or any other 3P toys, but this figure nails it.
I have watched 2 different video reviews of this guy just because he is amazing.
I have kind of a strict, "Don't over Prime" rule, but this guy is tempting me to break it.

TW seems to be making some really well designed and solidly manufactured products.
Is he solid? I mean Cybertron solid? he looks and SOUNDS* it.
TW's Megatron (can't recall his name OTTMH) looks awesome! The crux of my collecting is Classics/Gen, and although I've always loved Classics Megs, this one could be the toy that sends me spiraling into debt with an unhealthy 3P habit.

Question: Is that the replacement head in the picture? I remember liking Orion's OG head.

*I love in a good vid review when you can sense the quality of a TF by the sounds it makes.

you dont own any 3P figures? any particular reason?

due to the amount of things that peg and lock into place, he is an extremely solid figure in both modes. i was worried about how stiff the shoulder ratchets are, but the shoulder pieces peg into in with the front of the chest AND the flaps on the back. so you can move those stiff ratchets with nothing coming out of place.

i like their megatron (hegemon ;) )as well but had no use for it. i believe generations/classics is a "neo" platform for my display, in that they are modern redesigns and not a direct update of engineering of old figures. thats what MP's are for IMO. so im perfectly happy with my classics/united megatron. ive stayed away from those direct updates until UT's mania king toon accurate color figure, which i only buckled because he looked so friggin awesome. my henkei galvatron will still lead my classics movie decepticons and mania king will be a stand alone piece.

and yeah, thats the renderform head. id have taken a picture of mine, but im tired of the crappy quality of my cell phone. the original head is good, but i feel is more suitable for the black version (which i plan to get).

Oh man. Self restraint? Budget? Drawing the line?
I dump so much cash into collecting and other hobbies, I just have to be really careful.

Don't think I don't stay up too late pouring over 3P on the interweb either. There is so much KICK A$$ stuff out there.

Masterpiece isn't helping either. They are pushing the limits of what I'm willing to spend too, but they are more on par with my collecting trends.

Honestly, it's probably just a matter of time before I crack.

I would gladly come over to your house and play with your 3P stuff, though.

EDIT:
I'd like to add - The TW dino team has got me in a cold sweat too. Just waiting to see their triceratops.

Why is this "another" curveball? If you are referring to MPs, they have been part of this thread from early on. And unlike 3 P figures, they are an official transformer line of figures, just like any other. However, 3P figures have no business in a thread about best transformer toys. Just like in the case of KOs, 3 P figures are not official transformer toys. And to point that out, this forum has a special place to discuss KOs and 3P figures in the "non transformer" toy discussion. They have their own topics discussing best figures so please forward your TW Orion nomination there. Sorry to be cold, but as a staff of this website, I am very aware of it's policies and I would not want this thread moved as it is probably my favourite thread of this entire site.

Now, for a more personal opinion, Cobotron, if you have yet to buy 3 P figures, I suggest you stick to what that inner voice has been telling you. I love the transformers brand with all my heart and buying a 3 P figure would feel like I am betraying it. Also, though the heart of the designers are in the right place, these companies have no business capitalizing on something they do not own. You were making fun of KOs the other day, but these companies violate the same laws.

Also, I dislike how elitist they make us fans seem, as if being a true transformers fan must mean buying the most expensive figures. That takes away the fun of this hobby for me, as well as it's broad reach to kids of all ages. And think about it, you are paying tons more for toys that are not official. Do you really want to own Not Roadbuster, Not Galvatron, Not Fortmax? Not only does this make no sense to me as a fan, but it is very risky business. Think of all those guys who bought Warbot Defendor, The Menasor combiner, that Not Roadbuster or worse, that Red Robin (or whatever that other version was called). These people are now stuck with expensive figures no one wants, especially that Warbot defendor.
Remember how that guy was arguing the red robin was a good toy when it clearly looked nothing like the actual alt mode? I don't want to be that guy.

That's my two sense. Have to go but my next post will be much more cheerful with a nomination for an actual transformers toy.

I agree with Will here. Not over the fact that buying 3P figures is bad for the brand, because let's be honest, no one buy enough 3P figures to put a dent in HasTak market share. It's mostly about the fact that there's a forum for them and here, we are talking about official merch.
Becasue, well, so many Maccross figures would hog the discution and so on.

Now, one TF toy that was not from a TF brand at the time but it is now, it's GoBots. They were a short lived rival of the TF franshise at the time, but now that they have been bought of by Hasbro, Gobots are now officail TF from some alternate Universe. (WHERE'S MY GENERATIONS GOBOTS?!)

So, allow me to nominate Super Gobots Spay-C. Die cast metal. Unique transformation. 100% hidden robot parts in vehicle mode. A great robot mode. And some basic articulation! A 100% plastic Spay-C would have been perfectly at home in the Armada line! Truly, a toy way ahead of it's time.

apologies. i didnt read all seven pages before contributing. as i said, since every figure in the MP line could be considered a feat of engineering genius, i personally wasnt considering them, otherwise id be nominating MP01-MP24 or whatever its up to now.

william-james88 wrote:And unlike 3 P figures, they are an official transformer line of figures, just like any other. However, 3P figures have no business in a thread about best transformer toys. sorry. but it really seems like this is your hang up, not that i broke the rules. might i add, "take your conversation elsewhere" is pretty uninviting. also, if this thread were moved to the 3P section would you stop posting? cause thats kinda ridiculous.

your opinion. fine. FYI, i support hastak more than most. i 95% completest with generations/MP/AOE/reissues/ect on both hasbro and takaras side. so if i want to fill in the gaps of my rather large collection with 3P, thats my business. hastak has my total support. and if hastak has an official version out, ill bite on it no matter what. even if theres a better 3P item out, even if i own it.

as an active member of the 3P section, i havent noticed any "elitist" positions taken against the main source. in fact the main source is the candle everything is held to. maybe when comparing competing 3P's like ares and feral rex, theres a bit of a snobby tone. but the elitist thing in general, again i feel thats your hang up.

also, "stuck with"? i dont think you realize how much research us 3P customers do before we purchase these toys. case and point, unique toys mania king (galvatron). i didnt buy the first version cause it didnt cut it to me, and his scale wasnt to my liking anyways. second version was perfectly colored, i researched the mold a bit more and finally went for it. does it mean i tossed aside my three other classics galvatrons, a figure most of the fandom hates? nope. cause i still love that figure. my henkei galvatron will still be leading my movie decepticons while UT's mania king is a stand alone piece.

you act as if theres no such thing as expensive official TF's. how about takara figures with their slightly better paint apps for double the price? how about TFCC, botcon, or other general exclusives? do you share a similar animosity for fans who can afford those?

so not to worry, mister staff member. i wont "sully" your precious thread with any more of my 3P talk. but could you maybe take a deep breath and try to remember, this is an internet forum where we talk about TOYS? maybe some reflection is in order.
