What Is The Original Comic Book Read Order?

Hello All,

I have just started to get back in to buying comics and one of my goals is to complete the original comic book collection. I am hoping you guys might be help to help verify that I am hunting the right books and have them in the correct read order. I would appreciate any help any of you might have to offer.

So here are the books I am planning on getting in the order I plan on reading them. I just wanted to make sure this looks right to everyone else.

- The Transformers #1 - #80 (Marvel 1984 - 1991)
- Transformers: Regeneration One #80.5 - #100 (IDW 2012 - Current)
- G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #138 - #142 (Marvel Comics 1993)
- Transformers: Generation 2 #0 - #12 (Marvel 1993)

From the research I have been doing the last two weeks this is what I have come up with. The books I need in the order I should read them. Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

That is about right however the Gen 2 comics are pretty much a moot point now that Regeneration one is out.

I have not read any of the Regeneration One books yet. Are you saying that they do in fact over write or make the Gen 2 books null?

Yup. I look at gen 2 books now as an "alternate possible timeline" in the comic book chronology.

They also nullify some of the latter GiJoe books that has Megs becoming his G2 tank form thanks to Cobra.

Basically regen 1 altered a few events (once you read them you will know). If you want to look it up online I am sure you could get the synopses and figure what parts fit and what ones do not anymore.

Wow, ok. So is it generally accepted already that Regeneration one is cannon now and Generation 2 is an alternate reality/timeline/universe?

Ah, generation 2. Still searching for that elusive Christmas Special... :-?

Talking about comic books, do you guys know of a list which encompasses every Transformers comic book, in the order they ought to be read in?

You wouldnt believe the amount of catching up I need to do! ;)

If there is a list available which covers the original Marvel run up present date that would be awesome! :D

This is a big part of why I asked my question. I am rereading the books from start to finished and I want to create an info graph showing you what books to read, in which order, that is cannon.

Gi Joe and the Transformers #1
Transformers #25
Gi Joe and the Transformers #2
Transformers #26
Gi Joe and the Transformers#3+4
Transformers #27-37
Headmasters #1-4
Transformers # 38-80
Regeneration 1 #80.5 -

That is awesome and going to be incredibly helpful for me. Thank you.

One of the books I have been looking all over for is Transformers Generation 2 #0. From what I understand it was a Free comic book day book. I have yet to see it in the wild. It would be nice to have it so my G2 collection is complete.

Never a problem, I am glad to have been able to help in some way. I have my Gen 2 books after all of the others as well. I realized that I have been having the books in that order since I bought them all those years ago too..

I'm not 100% sure but I remember someone mentioning in this site saying that G2 #0 was actually reprinted in the back of G2 #2 in the second story, A few G2 issues had 2 stories in them.

Maybe I should start a new thread but might as well ask here first. What about an order for all the new stuff within the last several years? My friend works at the local comic shop and I was gonna go there on a spree and get all TF stuff in stock lol. But Id like to know the order for all the new series as well.

Ive found lists on tfwiki, wikipedia, etc. but Id like to hear from someone who actually read them all so far. I prefer to read things in the order they were released anyway, not the order someone else thinks is best for timeline sake.

Im hoping between everyone in fandom with help from the various Wiki sites, perhaps we could contribute to an overall exhaustive list which could somehow include...

Marvel
Dreamwave
IDW

If other printed material can be slotted in to these runs as well such as Fun Publications stuff and of course the recent digital series, then that would be awesome! :-B

Lets do this!

As far as the Original Marvel run Goes I would also Recommend the Transformers UK Marvel comics they gave alot more depth to the first 50 issues of the US run because it was weekly VS monthly so they needed more filler. Titan books published collections of the more important stories like Target: 2006, Fallen Angel, Legacy of Unicron, City of Fear, Prey, Dinobot Hunt,Second Generation (not Generation 2), and Time Wars

You know, I have been spending some time http://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_Transformers ... l_comic%29 and they are saying that the UK marvel Transformers reprinted the Marvel comics as well as adding some of there own stories that fit into the continuity. If you go through the time line of the us marvel books on this wiki site they insert the marvel books where they fit.

Another site I read says that the UK books are taking place in another world/reality.

Its cool to learn this stuff, but it is also very frustrating. I just want to find something that says "Read them in this order" and be done with it. But that would be to easy I guess.

There will always be different orders to consider. I just want to know the original release dates on everything. I prefer to read my comics in the order they were released at retail. That way I'm reading it like the original buyers read it.

Its like Star Wars. Some people Episode 4 first and some watch Episode 1 first. I always watch the original trilogy first.

And speaking of trilogies, when The Hobbit comes out I will always watch LotR first then The Hobbit. :)

I guess there is a release order, but what about universe timeline-fiction order?????

Megatron Origin and Autocracy would be #1 and #2 then right?????

Somewhere in there would be War Within too? It is different fiction, if I'm not mistaken, but it still deals with early Cybertron and before the great war?

I think I always enjoy origin/early history stories the most....

the Marvel comic could be read #1-#132

But I'd skip most of the US stories. They're not up to much in comparison to the proper ones.
