What you find on your TF Hunt

Hey TF fans. I dont know about you but what I like the most in this hobby is hunting down TFs all across the city. Either at yard sales, thrift shops, junk shops, discount stores. I do it quite a bit and have found some fun stuff which I regretted not taking pics of. So now I will start using this thread to document what I find throughout the city (Montreal and Laval in Quebec, Canada) as I do my weekly hunts. Feel free to post your own pics of what you find on your hunts.

I found this at an odd local chain called Rossy which gets a bunch of discontinued toys. But their prices are horrendous.

Image

Then I went to the dollar store (you never know what you'll find) and this time I saw that they KO'd and upscaled Bombshock from the PCC line.

Image

I then went to the thrift shops and found an armless Optimus Maximus, some kinder surprize transformers, an old takara mcdonalds toy and Salvage from the 2007 movie line.

Didnt buy any but the fun is the ongoing hunt.

Thanks! I wish I started earlier, so many stories and discoveries to share.

Man! It's kind of a customizer's paradise up there.
All that good junk makes great building material.

This funky little fella turned up before in one of your previous PARTY HAULS!

Image
Was it the Tripticon haul?

So his name is Motron, and he was made by Tomy.
I don't remember these coming out in the US at all. Apparently they came out in Canada though.

HA! They walk!
Really cool old toys on pure goofiness alone.

Yes, he was part of the Trypticon haul. These are very common in the area (as you can see) and I am surprised they never came to the US. I actually sold them all to recoup my costs for that lot. People lump them together with transformers (like in the review) but I dont know why. They arent transformers and I am not a big fan. If ever I come across others for cheap somewhere or in another lot, I will keep them aside for you.

HAHA! But remember, IF I find them 4 cheap or as part of a bigger lot. Also, I watched the review and cringed every time he called them transformers. They arent. Tomy wasnt even with Takara back then.

It's like calling Gobot toys transformers. >:oP

They were released in the US, but not at major retailors. I've got all but the car. You could find them in places like drug stores, supermarkets, and discount stores right next to the Convertors and Zybots.

Since these were made by Tomy you theoretically could wedge them into Transformers mythos if you really wanted to.

Ok, so just like there was a week where the hunt yielded only Blue Box' Beast Wars II Mobil Base, it looks like there is an increase in supply of Armless Optimus Maximi.

I found another today.

Image

But the real highlight was the 25% off deal at Toysrus and the fact that they finally got some Combiner Wars wave 2 deluxes. I dont know if the rest of the world works this way, but a hint I have for hunters is to get a raincheck whenever there is a good deal. So since only Dead End was there, I took a raincheck for more figures. Now for the next 3 months, if there is an RID, Generations (last year's) or Combiner Wars figure below 26$ that comes out, I can claim it for 25% off (which is the price indicated on the raincheck).

Not sure some know this. But some Toysrus stores charge more than the Toysrus site does.

If you shop at a Toysrus store and notice a item cost more than the Toysrus site is charging. You can go to customer service in the store, ask them to lower the store item to the price the Toysrus site has it listed for.

Today on the hunt I found a Bobba Fett/Slave 1 Transformer. But it was missing a bunch of pieces and I don't really collect these anyway.

Image

Also, Dollarama (dollar store chain, as you might guess) has KOs of RID Landfill.

A lot of my hunting is actually on local adds. That's where I have found some of my best deals, which usually seem too good to be true.

Like this one:

Image

It says:

MP Sideswipe 55$ *reserve*
MP Prowl 45$ *reserve*
MP Bluestreak 45$
MP Smokescreen 45$ *reserve*

I was gonna go for Smokescreen but I am obviously super wary of these as KOs. The golden rule is if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. But when I contacted the guy, I found out that it was the same guy who I had purchased this lot below when he needed money to pay for some utilities: RTS Megatron, Henkei Skywarp, AOE Voyager Grimlock brand new and Marvel Select Sabretooth brand new for 35$

Image

So in this case, I knew who the guy was and that he was not trying to rip me off. He probably just needs the money, which makes those MPs a good deal afterall. Oh and I sold that sabretooth later for 10$, meaning that I got those 3 tfs for 25$, making it a pretty crazy hunt.

I will be pîcking up the MP next week and that will be my first version of the Datsun mold.

Good hunting today. It started with me picking up the MP Smokescreen during my lunch break in a subway station. The guy had sold me stuff before so we chatted a bit. This is an authentic one in the end, since he bought it new but believes that once the box has been opened, it loses half its value. And selling it on e-bay for more wouldnt benefit much due to the increased fee and the trouble to post and ship. So he gets half his money back and I get a nearly new masterpiece with no tax or shipping. WOOHOO! (pictures at the very end)

The subway station we met at is close to a store I rarely go to. Its a store that has EVERYTHING you could ever want but basically at the same price it would cost me to buy from bbts with shipping, border fees and exchange. Its fun to check it out, but not much to shop. Here is the layout:

So yeah, everything but with a markup equivalent to online prices and all the costs associated.

BUT they have a loose toy section. And finally!!!!!!!!! I found something I was looking a loooong time for: Cybertronian Bumblebee from the first wave of WFC Generations toys. I started collecting a bit more than a year ago and the hardest thing to get for anyone who starts collecting is the stuff that just recently disapeared from any regular retail outlet. So people who bought it are holding onto them and the only ones selling are using the sold out status to gouge prices. I didnt think I could get this guy for less than 30$. But here he was loose for 7$ (about 6$ us).

And here you go, today's catch:

great price for that WFC Bee. I have the 3 pack version with the blue blades and "energon" pattern along with the United shiny variant.

Sounds like that store is an importer rather than buying through local distribution (hence the higher prices) - might be worth buying one or two figures from there every now and then, as you say, it's basically the same price as buying internationally with all the fees, and it keeps most of the money local.

Thanks for linking to this thread (via the CW Leader Class thread) - this is fun stuff, and it's great to see folks get a great score.

Do you know how much that Arms Microns Dreadwing is selling for in that shop?

Thanks! And I didnt take a look but from what we see the Takara voyagers selling, it wouldnt surprise me if it was in the 70$ cdn range.
