Who are the Knights? My theory.

I watched AOE again today, and the one scene that's been in my head every time I've watched the movie, ever since my first viewing is the scene with Optimus and Lockdown inside the Knight's Temenos. A temenos is like a temple, or an area of worship. We can assume that the Temenos wasn't built to worship the creators, since Optimus, who certainly has no respect for the Creators, tells Lockdown that he has "disgraced it," by turning it into a trophy case. Lockdown also calls Optimus and the Knights "fugitives."

So, who did the knights fight for? Who did they worship? I'm thinking it's Primus, and the Creators are mad at that because they believe they're the ones who deserve all the glory. Either that, or they're false gods, who came to Cybertron claiming to be their creators.

Now, disregarding the prequel comics set on Cybertron (for all we know, they're not even canon anymore, sort of like what Star Wars did with its expanded universe), I think the Knights are the original faction who rebelled against the Creators to uphold the belief of Primus as Cybertron's one true creator, while most other Cybertronians followed like cattle and bowed to the Quintessans: which is another good argument for why at the beginning of TF1, Optimus claimed that no one knows where the Allspark comes from. They don't truly know weather it was through Primus or the Creators. All they truly know is that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life. That's it.

Employed by them, Lockdown acted as the right hand of the Creators. He was a harbinger of their will. He roamed the galaxy, whooping the Knight's asses for centuries, bringing them in to be judged by those they lifted up their voices and revolted against. That's my theory. I think the Knights fought for Primus in order to purge those false gods from the face of their planet.

And years, maybe millennia after the first knights drove the Creators off Cybertron, I think Optimus adopted their belief system and began fighting in the name of Primus. The Creators didn't like that. So, they sent Lockdown to take care of the last of them. Further evidence to my theory is indicated near the end of the movie when Optimus pulls his sword from wherever it was lodged. He says, "Recognize one of your Knights." I think that was a prayer. But if not to the Creaters, then to who? Primus.

Also, nowhere in the movie does anyone refer to the Dinobots as Knights like some people seem to think. I'm thinking they were maybe the Knight's steeds they rode into battle or something like that. Perhaps they were servants to the Knights, or enforcers of their cause. Optimus referred to them as "legendary warriors," but no one ever said anything about them being Knights. That's why they didn't put up that much of a fight before submitting to Optimus. They're sworn to serve him until he relinquishes them of their oath.

PS: Did anyone ever notice the Knight Ship is shaped like a crown? Since the ship was built to explore the universe, maybe it was built so that it could be dawned on Primus's head when the finally find him or something. I don't know, just another theory.
