Who do you view as the greatest tf of all time?

Postby shortround » Mon Feb 11, 2008 2:05 am

Simple enuff question to answer so go for it let us all know what you think it can be from any series of transformers from g1 to the new universe line and anything in between.
For me it has to be predaking he is perfect there is nothing I would change about his mold.
Runner ups would be:
1)sixshot
2)classics skywarp & jetfire
3)powermaster optimus prime
4)omega prime(made up of rid prime & rid ultra magnus)
5)black convey(rid scourge in the united states)

A simple question, but really hard to answer since there are quite a few awesome Transformers made throughout the years.

For me, I would have to say Classics Skywarp. He isn't the most fancy, and he certainly is no Masterpiece figure. But everything about him is done so well. Excellent articulation, looks exactly like his G1 self. Has a good, clean transformation. Good posability. Great colors. Very few flaws. Looks fantastic in both robot and jet mode. So, I guess it does not have to be super-fancy to be great.

Runners up are: Classics Jetfire, Classics Prime/UM, MP Prime and MP Megatron.

Uhm,
Scarem This answer brought to you by the spirit of Chosen
No! Stalker This answer brought to you by the spirit of HC and Burn
Uhm, no, definitly Wheelie This answer brought to you by the spirit of Dai Atsutori (or whatever the hell that guys name was)

Anyways... Just going by the molds that I've actually owned, I'd have to say that I'm partial to RiD Scourge. (the TRU version, not the KB or Spychanger versions)

He's decently posable given the age of the mold, has a nice heft to him, Lots of Acc's, and was a frickin' awesome concept before the whole "Nemesis Prime" thing was done to death.
Even now he is the best of the Black Primes IMHO (yes even including Uni. NP)

I highly recomend people to check out the Seibs gallery of him here.
*Side note
I really wish Ryan would go back to taking his time on his galleries like he used to :?

i think G1 Grimlock was pretty good for the time he was made in, his transformation was very simple, it looked like it did in the cartoon, and he was fairly flexible

Cyb. Hotshot. First TF that got me hooked. I love everything about it. The modes, the transformation, and the weapons.
Skywarp is afraid of the creepy grey bar of ads.

Weapon: Reciprocating Laser Cannon
Metals Tarantulas. The most badass transformer in robot mode.

In both modes: Laser Prime. The original is the best.

How odd - I thought of this question last night and was going to post it today!

My vote: Masterpiece Prime because he looks good in both modes and the robot mode looks almost exactly as we remember from the cartoon, plus he's so poseable. He'd be better if his hands were more like MP Starscream's but IMHO he's about as close to perfect as we're likely to get.
2nd place goes to either Movie Bumblebee cos he's so CGI accurate, really fun to transform (the two automorphs are really cool) and very poseable or Movie Landmine who has 26 points of articulation. A bit of work with a knife on his hands and he has 32! That's good for any transformer let alone a delux - and is catching up with MP Prime!

G1 Ultra Magnus, but that has more to do with warm fuzzy feelings based in childhood.

I think some of the Classics designs are pretty hard to beat.

i'd agree that the classics seeker mould is great, i prefer skywarps colurs over SS though. The mould is great in both modes, a simple intuitive transformation and the bit with the cockpit is ingenious and really adds to the transfoming 'experience'. Not too detailed, posable, weapons can be positioned on arms/shoulders to great and varying effect, great homage to the old toy. A classic for sure, one that is satisfying on many levels.

id be hard pressed to say what is my fave TF but UM is amongst my top 10. the powered up mode (ie the big bot) is an ingenius use of the trailer, the type of design that just isnt going to happen anymore, its very unique. he has character despite that brick like stance, rather like some giant colossus about to come alive in an old ray harryhausen movie!! i love the colours too even if they are nothing like the original more relalistc diaclone colours. i remember wondering if i liked this toy enough to buy it when the reissues came out and since i got the japanese version it has grown on me more and more. i hope takara 'encores' him (again).

Weapon: Blinding Black Light Beam Gun
MP-1

I never wanted a transformer more than the first time I saw the prototype pictures. His robot mode is a perfect representation of the Prime I grew up with. What more could you want.

Wow lots of great figures I know it is hard to pick the greatest tf of all time that is why I went back and redid my original post to include my runner up figures. So go ahead and include a few runner up figures that you feel almost made it as your greatest tf of all time.

I just got my first G1 Blaster in the post today, and i love him to bits, but after Grimlock, id say Metroplkex is one of my fave. MP Optimus i like, but he's a bit delicate so that puts me off him a bit. I always loved my G1 Bruticus and Defensor so id say

I have to agree with those who have said MP Prime. I finally got around to opening the MP Prime and Starscream I got for Christmas a few weeks ago and I couldn't be more impressed with both of them. I give Prime the edge because of show-accuracy, but SS is no slouch in that department.

I think honorable mentions have to go to G1 Prime and Bumblebee. How many of us can trace our current obsession to one of those two figures? That's gotta be worth something.

Gor me, gotta be MP Prime. I've never wanted a TF figure so much either before or since, and he did not disappoint at all. Poissibly the only TF I've owned that I don't look at and think "It's a shame they didn't..." or "He'd be perfect if they'd just..." A true masterpiece.

For something thst's more of a toy, I think I'd go with Classics Prime. Great rendition of the character, posable, fun, three weapons options. Great fun to play with, just a shame about the arm kibble.

DING DING DING!

We have a winner.

See, I knew I liked Bun for more then just being a bad ass!

Scourge=amazing

Here I thought you just liked me for my rockin' curves and sweet ass

My 5 runner-ups would be

1: 20th Aniversary Opimus Prime (not DVD Prime)
Damn good figure. Awesome figure. Only reason he didn't get my first spot was because... well, Even if he is the greatest representation of Prime ever, he is just another Prime in a long line of Primes

2: Masterpiece Starscream(US version)
Even though he's not nearly as bad-ass as I thought he'd be before I bought him, he is still a very good figure.
Plus the stand he comes with makes posing him very fun.
Also like 20th OP he's still just another Screamer in a long line of screamers

3: Universe Razorclaw
I had seen Tigerhawk up close many times and just had never been impressed with him. As a result I never picked up U Razorclaw when he was in stores and ended up getting him online later only because I found him cheap.
Once I got him and started messing with him I was completly won over.
This figure was never meant to have Tigerhawks colorscheme, it kills him. The black purple redeco really brings out everything that is bad-ass about this figure, the only bad part about it is the sensitivity of the spring loaded mechanisms on his back. Still I wouldn't give him up for anything.

4: Cybertron Unicron
I was initially skeptical about this figure... I mean why the hell would you make the original huge bad-ass planet into a friggen deluxe sized tank ?!?! But the figure manages to be a little gem despite the lame cyber-key gimmick.
Even though he's smaller than most of the other main figures in the line he definitly gives the impression of wicked evilness, and the fact that you can rotate two of his 'spears' up to replace his hadns to give him melee weapons is pretty cool.
If this figure was re-released as Bludgeon in Classics I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat.

5: Energon Towline
Not the flashiest figure out there, but he's got really good posability and due to the fact that he has a "sled" he's very free of kibble, making him a great, lean, fighter-type character.
I'm also partial to characters that have what could be semi-autonomous components. That sled gives Towline built in back-up

Honorable mention: Energon Bulkhead, for all the reasons I mentioned for Towline.
The opinions expressed in this post are well-reasoned and insightful.

I had to go back and look since no one else mentioned him for fear that he wasn't allowed.

G1 Prime anyone?

Seriously.

That toy is the lone reason we're all here. I can understand that MP Convoy is truely a superior version of G1 Prime, but greatest of all time? G1 Prime.

Iconic

Available

Action-packed

Everything a prime should have or be.

We can't leave him off the list. It's not fair to ignore his contribution, almost like it's not fair to allow him to compete.

G1 Prime wins so hands down above all other Transformers that the title of this thread should be "Who do you view as the greatest tf of all time, excluding G1 Prime as G1 Prime would have obviously won otherwise?"

Hmmm,.... For me I gotta go with the transformer that got me the most excited as a kid.

Powermaster Optimus Prime

For the time, the cab look was terrific and gave me the closest thing to the cartoon look of prime. I wholly admit it was essentially a brick, but the look was there. I was so stressed out that I wouldn't get it for Christmas, that I actually lost sleep over it. The combining aspect of it was great because he could go toe to toe with Galvatron, and not look like a shrimp! I got unbelievable mileage out of that figure.

ive got MP Prime and Powermaster Prime (well had power master prime) and as much as i nearly wet myself the first time i saw a picture in a magazine of MP Prime, Powermaster still got a bigger buzz out of me when i got it one christmas. I think there are them many primes now its flooded the appeal of him in my eyes (he's still damn beautiful), and Powermaster wasnt my favourite back then. Im not sure id have ANY prime in my top 10.
