Xtransbots X1 Glider/Air Warrior Pictorial Review

I got my Xtransbots X1 Glider/Air Warrior yesterday and decided to take a few pictures for those who might be interested. First let's establish what this is. There's quite a bit of confusion about this guy because there are two third-party companies that have upsized and revised the JazaiToys Wheelie and Powerglide molds, Xtransbots (a CHMS project) and Superalloy. The Xtransbots figures are all plastic whereas the Superalloy figures feature diecast. From what I understand the Superalloy Powerglide is currently in production and should be available in the near future.

Onward to Glider! I'm not much of a packaging guy, but this is actually pretty nice. It's display minded for you MISB guys, made of decent quality cardboard, and has features nice art. As you can see the front flap opens to reveal the figure in alt mode and features a hook and loop closure. Glider is secured in a clear plastic tray with a couple of twist-ties. The back teases their upcoming Galvatron homage, Tyrant. He comes with a small instruction sheet naturally, however you'll be working backwards since they take you from robot to alt mode. The instructions show a step were the face would be concealed in alt mode, but apparently that was scrapped. You also get a card that has his bio and specs.

As previously stated this is basically a knock off of the JazaiToys Powerglide. It's been upsized to roughly Deluxe class and ball joints have been added to improve articulation. He comes with three weapons, two hand guns and a knife. You can store one of the weapons in his chest cavity if you wish. He's spot on in both modes and displays well with the other Classics universe Minibots that have been upsized to Deluxe. He has decent articulation and stands easily thanks to his large flat feet. He's not without his flaws though, his arm joints are a little loose as are the rotational joints for his wings. He can still easily hold poses though, and if you really want to stiffen them up a quick coat of super glue will do the trick. The plastic quality could be a little better, my figure has a few stress marks from assembly, but nothing feels like it's going to break. Overall I'm happy with him, and he looks good on my Classics shelf.

The figure and his white repaint can be purchased at site sponsor Robotkingdom.

Articulation:

Head - rotates 360
Shoulders - ball joint
Elbows - ball joint
Hips - ball joint
Knees - hinge, plus 360 rotation
Ankles - ball joint

If the red where darker I might have bitten, but looking at it standing next to BB and Warpath, it's too bright for my taste.

Looks like a great figure and a very good review, thank you for that. Was on the fence trying to choose between this one and the superalloy version, but your review has sold me on it.

Kotoys.com is the place, tho I heard that Robot Kingdom was also going to be stocking it.

Personally, I like the brightness. It's very flashy and showy, which makes sense for the character.

Looks great, especially when standing next to the other Classics deluxes. I especially love how they remembered to mold in the heart in his chest <3

Completely off topic but is that one of Grand Slam's guns in Bumblebee's hand? If so I use the exact same guns for my Bee and Cliff as they fit pretty well between the thighs in alt mode. On a related note, if you have those guns and have an Energon Stormjet/Silverbolt that needs some guns and you don't have the upgrade set, they work well for him too. That mold has two minicon ports by the tail fins that don't have room enough to port minicons but those guns fit very nicely there as they have a 5mm peg hole in them as well.

As for Powerglide, while it does look really nice and I do want him, to me he just doesn't fit with the rest of the classics style figures. To me it's just too much of just an advancement in the original's mold and not a re-imagining of the figure like Universe Powerglide is.

Nice review Duke-thanks! Was strongly considering this figure and your review pretty much sealed the deal. If Aces stocks this, I'll definitely pick this up.

The only reason Hasbro "re-imagines" the figures is to make them marketable to today's children. I understand todays kids need something more complex to keep them happy, but us collectors just display them. Theres nothing wrong with the simpleness of his transformation. I think the figure goes well with the other deluxe sized figures.

I think it's the handgun that was part of the Fansproject G3 trailer - it came with a set of chrome guns for a handful of Classics characters that got shafted in that department, and Bee was given a small handgun. Could be wrong though, someone correct me on this if I am.

Looks good. I bought one yesterday from RobotKingdom, they had the best price that I could find. I plan on getting the die-cast one as well.

Great review, I have been wondering if anyone had this yet. I didn't see any stress marks from the pics displayed, I guess they are not very noticable. Hopefully mine will be here next weekend from KOToys. I bought him alone with their KO of classics Skywarp and Cliffjumper :D

Good eye, indeed it's one the guns from the FansProject G3 trailer.

They're really not, but I figured I better mention them.

Sorry guys I didn't put a lot of effort into the written portion of the review. Figured the pictures would speak for themselves. If anyone has any specific questions I'll try to answer them.

Robot Kingdom also has them, and the price seems reasonable.

Also, I've been working on a Wikialpha entry for the Glider toy. Anyone who wants to add to it, please do so. We need more editors for the third party Transformers Wikialpha articles.

I sort of like it but not enough to buy it my main problem with it is the lack of detail in the mould it self

His thighs and shoulders and forearms are just plain boring it sticks out like sore thumb to me in the photo with bee and warpath if he had the classics look it could have been so much better even his guns are plain

To me its just a deluxe G1 PG ,a good neo stand in for some but not for me.
