They probably even had more screen time than every Transformer in that movie, combined.

Considering a LARGE chunk of the advertising/media was about the Dinobots showing up, maybe more than twenty minutes at the end of a three-hour long slog of crap?

Because AOE makes me appreciate the 1986 movie more, and that takes some doing.

They showed up, didn't they? It doesn't matter how damn long they were there. Be glad they showed up at all.

No. I will NOT be happy with their incredibly short screen-time, their incredibly boring designs that had them all blend together, them showing up pretty much out of nowhere in the last twenty minutes of a three-hour movie or... anything about them in AOe1

Yes, it does matter how long they were in it, especially considering how much of the pre-movie hype and the toyline was about them. It sucked. It sucks. It will suck. AOE sucked.

I just want some expansion on their backstory. Maybe give them voices. To be honest, I don't really care about the Dinobots. I like their designs and everything, and this whole Knight concept that was brought up and their correlation to the Creators was probably my favorite thing about AOE, but they were only supposed to be teased in the movie. They did more than I expected them to do.

Yes, boring. All gray and spiky and all blending in together. Yes, they showed up out of nowhere. We had something about the transformed fossils that would've been SO much better than... randomly showing up in Lockdown's ship.

And as for being 'glad' that they're in there at all? Bull****. I'd rather them not have been in it at all than how badly misused they were in this horrible movie.

Well, actually the Dinobots didn't just randomly show up in Lockdown's ship. They were imprisoned by Lockdown, and were alluded to as knights in Lockdown's dialogue while he was dragging OP to his cage. Lockdown was acting on the orders of the Creators, who wanted to "wipe the slate clean". Or something like that.

And yes, it would have been better that the Dinobots didn't show up in AOE. In fact, the Dinobots were initially planned for TF5, but they later decided to include them into AOE in the last minute.

But I do agree that the Dinobots' designs felt lackluster and bland. I'm not exactly a fan of the weird changes they did to the Dinobots either. Grimlock's horns, I can tolerate, but I found Siamese twins Strafe ridiculous (and no, I don't care for any fan-made explanation that Strafe happened to have scanned the corpse of a Siamese twin pterodactyl or that 2 heads helps him fight or fly better).

I think "lackluster" is pretty accurate. They weren't terrible, but they just weren't amazing to me. I couldn't agree more with you that Strafe was ridiculous. That was just a dumb design move, in my opinion.

I gotta say it is pretty bold for some folks to say we should be GLAD Dinobots were even featured in the movie. They were not presented well at all, and that is something I will NOT be GLAD about. Their inclusion was a last minute decision that was based on trying to milk as much money as possible out of a sub-par movie and toy line. I hope Hasbro was able to sell enough Chomp and Stomp Grimlock toys to meet their target budget.

My thoughts exactly. It all boils down to last minute decisions and changes, and not really caring about the consequences to the story and characterization. Kruger's interview is pretty telling of the production crew's mindset during filming.

I think they're still riding on the euphoria of the first movie's surprise success, as well as the feeling of invincibility ROTF gave them (made a boatload of money despite being panned by almost every professional critic). Truth is, the novelty of a TF movie is starting to wane for casual viewers, and Bay himself seems to be creatively exhausted. Frankly, I'm a fan of TF's and the movies (except ROTF), and even I'm starting to feel that the movies need some new blood. To his credit, Bay made TF's super-popular again, and I like the most of the designs. But AOE offered nothing new despite a fresh cast of human actors and a superficial redesign for the TF's.

Yup, pretty much. Actually, Hasbro is making money off of the hypermarkets (Tesco, Walmart etc.) that order their stock; whether they sell of not is the hypermarket's problem.

I'm just hoping for a possible future Movie Masterpiece line (not the glorified repaints Takara put out) where we'll get designs on the same level as ROTF leader class OP. Then again, with the recent movie designs leaning further and further toward "smoke and mirrors" transformations and less visible car parts, I might have to content myself with an expanded DMK line, as they seem damn near unable to transform in the real world. To say nothing of the lego-forming KSI bots and Galvatron.

I think I remember Sly from when I was a Mod.

Man, I doubt I would I would buy a Masterpiece based on the current design language. Just isn't interesting to me. Also, you make a good point concerning the "smoke and mirror" transformations. That is something that bothered me about the movies and now won't translate to the toys.

Yeah, the new designs seem very over-wrought. Too many contours and spikes, and they don't even look like they can transform anymore.

To be fair, even the first movie designs had "cheating" elements, but AOE took things way too far.

In all honest, the only toys from the AoE line that I bought were High Octane BB (which fortunately inherited some design elements from earlier movie iterations) and the DMK AoE Optimus kit--which, strictly speaking, makes that just one toy purchase.

I wonder if they'll drop the Lego-forming thing in TF5 and revert to more "practical" transformations and designs.

Even worse is that they do so right when Hasbro's going for a simpler approach to the toys. Before was a disconnect between character and toy designers, now it's just flat out mockery.

Exactly. When they said the movie TF's would undergo a significant change in their designs, I expected Hasbro to have told them about their new simplification policy and that Paramount/Bay would have tweaked the designs to make them easier to turn into movie accurate toys. Stuff like armor and whatnot to make for less parts moving around.

Instead, they did the opposite. #-o

They weren't the focus of the movie's story, at all, so why anyone would expect them to be in the movie any longer than they were is beyond me. Hell, I'm surprised they got as much screen time as they did. They served their purpose, and kicked more ass than every Transformer in the first movie combined.

AOE sucked.

Boring designs? They had some of the most badass designs ever. And they didn't show up from out of nowhere. It was established earlier that Lockdown captured them. They weren't even supposed to be in the movie. So yeah, you should be glad they were in it at all.

All right, I'll admit to being wrong on tht. But the whole thing with the frozen dinosaurs in the beginning threw me a bit and still seems like a needless red herring AND better origin.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

I totally agree. The metallized "transformium fodder" dino corpse in the Arctic and the actual dinobots are so similar that I think most viewers would have easily mistook the corpse for Grimlock.

Agreed. I don't have to be happy with something that was so poorly handled.

B-b-b-but if you don't just blindly love it, Hasbro will stop making toys, right? If you don't just blatantly love eating that plate full of ****, the **** factory will close down, right? A-and, you're not a true fan if you don't just patently accept any/everything!!!

Lol. The Dinobots were the most promoted and then least delivered on element of AOE, and it's long past the time where we should be having trouble accepting that as being the case. Like the other three movies: much potential, Bay'd to bland.
