Your top Four all time Favorite Transformers figures and why

Postby skywarp-2 » Fri Dec 08, 2017 7:56 pm

Okay, so the premise of this is if you had to choose, only the top 4 bots from your existing collection, and had to get rid of all the rest, preferably from our cold dead hands, what would be your top 4 all time Transformers figures that you CURRENTLY own and could not live without and why? I'd love to know what fellow fans think of their most important bots.

So here's My Choices...Let's have some Fun!

1. MP-10 Optimus Prime (Hasbro 1st Edition) I can't say enough about this Guy. I mean, just wow. It's a very close but slightly realistic approximation of the legendary G-1 Leader of the Autobots. His Transformation is flawless, and his Alt mode into Truck, simply breath taking. From what was previously released on him as a character, the MP-10 is the most Fun, and the most durable of my Transformers Masterpieces. Even tho engineering standards have come along way, like the old Faithful Semi Truck he is, his timeless design, enjoyable transformation, and indelible Likeness of form and function make him a classic that will never tire, and will always make you think even next to the newest Masterpiece, that yes Prime is older, but very tough and well built.Image
Image

2. MP-36 Megatron 2.0 (Takara Tomy) Megatron in the G-1 Cartoon was said by Shockwave to have been built to be indestructible. Upon news of his Supposed Untimely death from Star Scream, Shockwave simply replied, Impossible! Megatron is indestructible! As leader of the Decepticons and built specifically to lead and over throw the Quintessons from Cybertron, Megatron is a very tough and powerful figure, and his Masterpiece edition is just spot on. The engineering, quality of design, and near perfect rendering of the cartoon likeness along with a pretty amazing Gun mode makes him a must to have out of my collection. If my house was on fire, I would be rushing in to grab him first, along with MP-10. The Transformation is a bit complex, but well worth it in the end as the payoff outweighs the time involved. It's a model of modern engineering, and a very well represented faithful final product to his Animated design. I am in awe.. Sorry Apollyon, your day was numbered, we all knew it. Takara hit this one out of the solar system!
Image

3. MP-28 Hot Rodimus (Takara Tomy) I really like this figure. Yea, he has some minor issues in proportions, but I still think he's pretty sweet. I have come to love Hot Rod over the years, I think even a bit more then his Rodimus Prime upgrade, however after the disasterous Rodimus Prime Masterpiece, I think I am more satisfied with this MP-28 Pre Prime version. He hits all the marks for me. Stout, good transformation and a definite likeness to the G-1 Movie and Toon he was derrived from. His Accessories put him over the top in my book, with his fishing pole and Saw hand attachment. In Alt Mode, he's that sexy stylized Concept car, with a badass Chrome engine, and Custom Exhaust Pipes. I would definitely have to have him.
Image
Image

4. MP-13 Soundwave (Takara Tomy) While the obvious choice probably would have been Starscream, if I had to only choose the four, I would have to go with the trusted spy and loyal lacky of Megatron, Soundwave! The Nostalgia Factor alone in his Alt mode makes him a valueable piece, it screams 1980s, and fits with the era those bots are also representing. The style of the design is impressive, and captures his G-1 likeness very accurately. The accessories, minions, and Transformation are extremely satisfying. If you had only 4 bots that you could take, at least with soundwave you get a bit of extra to make the odds slightly in Megatron's favor in your collection. I think there are some issues with his legs that bother me, but solely on the merits of who he is, what he represents and how masterfully they rendered his likeness in the figure makes him a must for my four bots to take with me.
Image

Honorable Mentions:

MP-07 Starscream (Hasbro)
It may have looked like the obvious choice to go with the Trecherous Starscream, but he was just barely nudged out by Soundwave. Thankfully I picked this guy up from Hasbro, and not Takara Tomy. I have to say what ever Hasbro did with theirs, I can definitely say made a difference. I have zero torso issues, and the transformation is perfect and lines up well. His likeness to the G-1 cartoon is spot on, and his playability, poseability and ease of Transformation makes him a great figure and If I didn't own an MP-13 Soundwave, I would definitely have to have this guy in my top 4 collection.
Image

MP-22 Ultra Magnus (Takara Tomy) It's safe to say Ultra Magnus is a favorite of mine after Hot Rod. The old soldier in armor looks brilliant, and evokes the Movie aesthetic very well. I love his Alt mode, and his accessories are impressive too. He's certainly worth having as a trusted General and guide to the young Hot Rod, and as a great companion piece with Optimus Prime. Transformation is inspired and fantastic. The quality of the figure feels stout and strong. He's certainly a contender in anyone's book. Certainly any G-1 Fan who loves the 1986 Movie. Had I no Hot Rodimus in my collection, MP-22 would be right there along Optimus Prime.

I can give my top three no problem, though it's technically more than one figure:

1. G1 God Ginrai/Powermaster Optimus Prime - I have two complete PM Primes and a third for parts plus a reissue God Ginrai. (and yes, I have Legends Super Ginrai and Godbomber, Magnus Prime, and the God Ginrai box set on pre-order). I also have the DX candy toy set.

2. CR God Fire Convoy/RID Omega Prime - I have three complete RID Optimus Primes and an Ultra Magnus, Sam's Club exclusive Prime and Magnus, both RID and Universe Spychanger Primes (and Magnuses), and Titanium Prime (and "Hot Zone" repaint). Plus next year I'll have the God Fire Convoy box set.

3. G1 Scroponok - I only have one of these, but it's complete from my childhood and I bought a second body to replace the original because I really wore it down playing with it as a kid.

The reason why I buy multiples of so many figures is so I can display them in all their bot forms.

4. is a little harder to decide on, but I'm leaning towards Welcome to 2010 Unicron, the best cartoon Unicron figure there is. Would be nice if they did get around to a Titan version someday. I also have to Armada Unicron, one on the shelf, one in the box in storage.

That's basically it for me.

I'm assuming that we can count combiners as one figure? Because that makes my life a easier in regards to this thread!

1.) Victory Saber (Victory, 1989, Japan). I've lusted after Victory Saber ever since I first heard about it, back when I was trawling the web in the dark days of 1998. I finally got one in 2008. Why is Victory Saber awesome? Think about this. You have a robot, and robots are cool. But then that robot has a space ship, and he can get inside an elevator that turns him into a bigger robot. And then, what's that? That robot bends in half and joins into another exosuit? You gotta be sh*tting me. Oh ho, I'm not done. Then that thing breaks a lion in half and uses it for boots. This is why Victory Saber is awesome.

2.) Overlord (Masterforce, 1988, Japan). I first got mine in 2007, and he's been a proud part of my collection since. I was thrilled with his depiction in LSotW. Ginormous, with more accessories that you can shake a stick at, and a strategical sadist, Overlord is just awesome.

3.) X-9 Jaguar (Beast Wars Metals, 1998, Japan). This was a gift that I received for Christmas a little over ten years ago, and it has a lot of sentimental value.

4.) Liokaiser (Victory, 1989, Japan). Mostly because I sunk more money than I care to admit into this set. But it's still incredible! Six military vehicle combine to become a very nice gestalt. Plus, he's comprised of all of the members of the Breast Force, and the eleven-year-old in me still thinks that this is the height of humor.

1) Beast wars transmetal megatron signed by david kaye. Probably my all time fave figure.
2) x9 jaguar. The screen accurate beast wars ravage. This thing was a holy grail and i spotted one in box at aa a few years ago. Love this.
3) botcon tripredicus. Or at least the three council members themselves. Never thought i would owna proper version of those guys, so when botcon announced them, ilept at the chance. And i still love them.
4) mp primal. Sure he's not as feature laiden as the original but he looks like he stepped off the screen and is glorious.

Hhhmmmm. I notice a distinct pattern. Lol.

God Ginrai is an excellent choice, and from G1 too! I remember transforming him, he's a lot of fun. I am so jealous on your God Fire Convoy/RID Omega Prime, I had them too! Greatest figures to play with, and especially in full powered up mode. I enjoyed them emmensely. What a good choice! I loved G1 Scorponok, he was pretty simple, yet still fairly accurate to the cartoon model. A definite win there. Unicron is a definite step up in terms of massive and powerful evil bots. I never owned one, but if they take the ones that have come out before, and retool them turning him into a pure Movie Replica Masterpiece complete with a sculpted interior through the mouth that looks like this:
Image
I would probably pick him up. What would also be nice is a removable head, with one that looks like the blown off version after the movie seen in season 3. It can still work by adding it to the bot, as it will look like he is in the midst of exploding from the Matrix. If they did a Unicron in Masterpiece, Titan Class would definitely be the way to do it.

Wow! We are definitely on the same page Mostly Fenrir72. I love how you chose Magnus over MP-10, but you forgot to give your reasons why, I would love to hear about that..MP-36.. Yea, no brainer there huh? LOL MP-10 Yep, definite top 4th tier figure.. what version do you prefer there? Takara Tomy or Hasbro?
Ah.. Galaxy Force Convoy and Starsaber combo.. Nice! One of the best Non-masterpiece figures ever made. a Real pleasure to have once owned him before changin my collection to purely MPs.
Great List Buddy!

Dude.. I can't argue anything on Victory Saber.. I totally agree with you there. I just hope they release a Victory Leo Masterpiece soon so I can upgrade my MP-24 Star Saber.. Love that Bot! He would definitely be a 7th on my list! Star Saber is one of my favorite Masterpieces so far, they went above and beyond on the screen accuracy and gimmicks without harming the figure's overall build. I suffer no loose joints either BTW.. My method isn't to use wax.. I use super glue in the tight joints and move the arm or attachment until the glue dries, and thereby making the arm or joint stiff.. you can make it stiffer by adding more glue to the tight joint, but use it sparaingly, as it tightens up pretty quick and is almost un-noticeable if done correctly.. also only use the liquid version, Never ever the gel.

Overlord is a pretty amazing figure. He's got a lot going for him, tho I was never a true fan of the character. however, I still think the toy is amazingly fun and offers plenty. X-9 Jaguar was a great figure. I was surprised at how big he was, when I used to have my BW transmetals. He was always a great looking bot and altmode too. Liokaiser is a wonderful choice, his design is evockative of Voltron, but he's green, mean, and a Masterpiece I would love to see someday.

Wow! You got a signed BW Transmetals Megs? Holy Cow that's awesome! I would love to get a Frank Welker Sig on my MP-36.. Dreams..
On X-9.. yea he's pretty awesome. I agree with you there. I am more of a G-1 fan, but I can definitely see why he's a fan fav..
botcon tripredacus, wasn't sure what he was, then I looked him up. He's very cool looking. That Combiner noggin tho! Wow! It almost looks like a Combiner from the God Ginrai anime, or a Piranha-con. I love the look of it!
MP Primal, I have to agree there man. I really should pick him up. I have always wanted a good representation of him, and that MP just does the trick!

Wow, this is a tough choice for me. I like all my figures. To pick 4 above all others?

MP-08 Grimlock
Grimlock from the original Marvel Comics is my all-time favorite TF character. This figure is a near perfect representation, the only one superior is MP-08X. It was a birthday present from an ex-girlfriend, so it has a bit of added sentimental value.

MP-13 Soundwave
Not only is it a perfect representation of the character, I think this is the perfect MP figure. And I personally always liked how Soundwave looked. Also, it took me 3 years after its release to finally acquire it.

Titan Class Devastator
It's a mostly accurate representation, the only one that is better is the UW version. I also think it's in scale with the Masterpiece line, so it looks good on the shelf with them. I have the Perfect Effect add-on kit with the Mixmaster cab and the Prowl head.

Perfect Effect Warden
It's a 3rd party figure, but it represents the IDW character perfectly. It's also in scale with the CW figures, especially Ultra Magnus and TR Overlord. And the fact that he fits on G1 Max as his head is a great bonus.

In no particular order:

Energon (Fatimus) Optimus Prime

Yes, and I assume.
An overall quality we don't find anymore with good ratchet joints and their satisfying sound.
I love his futuristic truck mode with the angled trailer, and I love the dark colors which do not remind automatically Optimus on first sight.
Strangely, his fatiness never bothered me. In fact he always looks better in real life than on pictures.

And he his fun. He can combines with the drones, with Omega Supreme/sentinel, and with WingSaber, where he absolutely shines.
Still on top of my shelves since 10 years.

031_energon_wing_saber-jpg.jpg

Energon_Prime_toy.jpg

Energon Landmine

Look at this picture, do I really need to explain ?

landmine003.jpg

I don't think we got a most awesome vehicule mode in the franchise since this one.

And he is perfect in all his other modes, especially on the brute mode :

Energon_Landmine_toy.jpg

And this head :

148205_Landmine_Robot_Closeup.JPG

I love this mold so much that I got his two repaints, LandQuake and Landshark. And I'm still not able to chose a fave among the three.

Cybertron Deluxe Optimus (Armada Bendy Prime)

Bendy Prime is all a deluxe should be. Good modes, articulations, easy transformation.
Added to that, Armada's Optimus design was always a hit to me, with this strong shoulders, the huge grill.. The Original toy was a bit deceiving but the deluxe is a full hit.
I got most of the repaints, including the Magnus one and I love all of them.
I had to choose only one for here, so I went on the Cybertron repaint, with the black replacing the blue, it's just awesome, we need more Optimus repaints like this.

Tie : TR Overlord / SkyShadow

More recent than the others, so I don't know if they'll last as all time faves, but I have them for some month now and still can't stop playing with them. They're my "desk" transformers since all this time.
I didn't had fun with TFs after the end of Cybertron/galaxy force. Most of the classics/generation/universe/wathever were a bit meh to my eyes, I think outside Classics Optimus, I didn't kept a lot.
But titans returns was a revolution, TF were fun to play with again. I've been quite completlist with them.
Despite being quite completlist, I didn't got SkyShadow and Overlord at first. I didn't want duplicate molds of this size and it took me weeks to decide which one I should get.
And once I got Overlord, I emmediately loved him, to a new step compared to all others TR.
To the point that one week after playing with him, I had to order Skyshadow too.

Again, like all the faves on my list; they're fun, they have ton of possibilities. Robot, Vehicule, Base, interaction with titan and prime masters etc..

Can't decide between the two, but after all, they're more or less the same mold :

WP_20171202_14_13_06_Pro.jpg

If I really have to choose, I'll probably got for SkyShadow, who has better color Scheme in my optinion.

I guess my top four would be(and they are in order from most favorite):

1.G1 Astrotrain
2.G1 Piranacon(yes I realize this is really a combiner but since I finally built it, I'm claiming it as one)
3.G1 Skywarp
4.G1 Perceptor

No MP's on my list so I guess I won't be joining the MP club but I'm cool with that. Don't get me confused. I like MP's and do have a couple and plan to add a couple more. But at the same time, I have a strange feeling about them. They're almost too perfect. Which is what would make any sane person like them so much right? Your favorite character gets an MP and how can you complain? But to me, it's the originality of the G1 line or even other lines that followed that make me like them. Kind of like antiques or even old cars. Yes they now make things sleeker, faster, better(or whatever may apply). But the original wasn't meant to necessarily be any of those things. It just was what it was. And that has a certain appeal to me.

With regards to the figures in question, I love all of them for different reasons. I never owned any as a child so there is no nostalgia factor for me. I guess with Astrotrain, I like trains and space shuttles and robots as well. Combine all three and it was a no-brainer. I honestly have more than one so I can display him in both train and shuttle mode.

Piranacon I like because I love the ocean and I have a tendency to grab any of the transformers relating to the ocean. Any kind of sea creature I try to get. But I don't have any I like more than this beast. Plus, when I was originally trying to buy the individual TF's to complete this thing, I was doing it long before I'd ever used ebay(early 2000's). I had all but one and none of them were complete. Funny thing was, I paid far more then for what I did get than I did recently to have a complete combiner with all accessories.

Skywarp I happen to like due to his colors and him being a jet. He is obviously not the only jet(I also own a dirge and thundercracker from G1) but I think his ability to teleport and his character put him over the top for me. Besides, Starscream's such a punk!(full admission, I do own 5 starscream's however. But I have at least 7 Skywarp's, including the MP)

Perceptor...ok so this is weird. But as a child growing up I loved science as well as science related things, microscopes being among them. Why? I really have no idea. I won't defend my love for science but the microscope thing has even me puzzled. So when I first learned of this figure, it was one of the first G1 figures I ever purchased. After I sold off my collection, for some reason I got online a few years later and bought another one. I have had it ever since. Longer than any other TF I currently own.

So those are my top 4!

Honorable mentions would be:

1.G1 Beachcomber.
2.CW Skylinx(this is the only version of him I currently own).
3.G1 Optimus Prime(because it's hard to go wrong with a G1 Prime).

My list if I really had to think about it...

1.Soundwave G1 one of the first transformers my Grandma bought me for Crimbo, that and coming with a cassette mini bot was cool (glares at the titan returns figure)

2. Ultra Magnus G1 a huge tripple changer (glares at the MP figure)and could carry around my cars (sadly I only ever had one G1 car -Hoist which was my first ever TF)

3.Galvatron G1 as a kid running around with a gun that lit up and made sounds, that could be a robot that makes sounds (Hugs the encore cartoon color toy fondly, but not too fondly incase it shouts at me in Japanese and makes me wet myself) so as an adult I'm going for a cartoon color toy)

4.Mp1 Optimus Prime, back when masterpieces were masterpieces and not just high grade. The weight, the bulk, the Primeyness of it all

Honorable mentions,
Armada Unicron -still wish we got a beast wars unicron but hey, we actually got one! (and then the tank one...which is cool because it reminds me of the little ones Scorpinok and Prime fought together in the comics, then the Gai armor one from Prime...which is neat because Prime was cool),
Armada Tidal Wave -its a space aircraft carrier/troop carrier massive robot, what's not to like.
Combiner wars powerglide and titan war Krok, just toys that look, display and simple change well.
The more toon accurate Beast Wars Optimal and Megatron toys r us pack, if hasbro hadn't removed the piece that keeps megatron stable :/
Also I'm probably one of the few people who liked the G2 autorollers/transformers (the constructicon types not that I can remember their names) for ease of transforming or any transformer that makes the transformation sound when transforming (classics silverbolt/dreading etc)

I don't really collect MPs, and I loathe movie figures and so-called 3rd party figures. Out of what I have, it's so hard to choose, but here goes:

Image

4. Generations T30 Springer: A near-perfect representation of G1 cool guy Springer that converts into all three of his classic modes and makes his car and copter distinctive and decent looking, and is fully articulated.

Image

3. Generations T30 Metroplex: An awesome update of a toy I had when I was a kid. This is the toy that I wanted in G1, who could interact with Deluxe (and even a Voyager) figure in base mode, and carrier battle station mode can hold five CW Aerialbots. I've got an extra red cannon and add-ons, but this is still an awesome update to my favorite city-bot.

Image

2. Generations T30 Leader-class Jetfire: My favorite G1 non-combiner character. A pain to convert, but once you do, his aircraft and robot modes look awesome. The accessories are a nice call-back to the original, even if the red metallic paint was unneccessary, and the mask revealing his G1 face is makes this toy one of my very favorites.

Image

1. Combiner Wars Superion: My favorite combiner with updated, articulated Aerialbot components, and as a result, he has elbows and knees. I like this so much that I had to have two complete sets! Though not perfect (Silverbolt's hands, no landing gear on some of the jets, exposed robot arms), and though 3rd party hands and feet are a must, he is my favorite figure out of everything that I currently own, and yeah, that includes MPs!

Honorable mentions: RTS Deluxe Jazz, CW Bruticus, T30 Deluxe Arcee, PotP Deluxe Swoop, TR Leader Overlord, CW Leader Megatron, CW Computron, TR Titan Trypticon, TR Soundwave.

In no particular order:

MP Soundwave (Hasbro version)

My favourite character, represented beautifully in a toy that can truly be called a Masterpiece. The Hasbro version came with all the then-currently available cassettes, and a toy-accurate yellow visor that just worked so well for me.

United Stepper

The 2010 Jazz mold is a figure that, seven years later, has yet to be improved upon. This premium repaint adds so much flair to the figure, and pairs him up with Cyclonus's fantastic Targetmaster partner.

God Ginrai

As a kid, Powermaster Optimus Prime was my Optimus Prime.
Sure, I had the original G1, but I think it belonged to my older brother before I got it, either that or it was a thrift shop find... at any rate, it was missing a lot of parts by the time it made it to me. I remember the first time I saw a commercial on TV for Powermaster Optimus, I was ecstatic. It looked so cool, I had to have one. I got it later that year for either my birthday or Christmas, and proceeded to lug it everywhere with me. Years later, I'd discover that in Japan, the toy I loved so much was even cooler, with transparent windows, metal parts, and a whole other trailer to add on! Safe to say that once I discovered ebay, I got the God Ginrai reissue straight away. It still stands in a place of reverence in my collection.

God Fire Convoy/Omega Prime
Image
RiD 2001 got me into collecting as a hobby, instead of just having some of my childhood toys, and a few Beast Wars figures that I picked up here or there. That year, for my birthday, I got to go on a buying trip with my mother. See, I lived most of my life in a small town with none of the retail options most people take for granted, and my mother ran a toys and games shop, we'd frequently have to travel (minimum 3 hours) to larger population centers to acquire things to sell in the store. Things our small town would never see otherwise. On this particular trip, I was given some birthday money to get whatever I wanted. Prime and Magnus both came home with me that day, and their combined form is still one of the most aesthetically pleasing jumbled fiddly messes of plastic I've ever seen.

Honourable mention goes to the lucky draw black version of both figures.
Image
Because I know I'll never get them, but if I did I would have to stop collecting, because my collecting carreer would hit the ceiling and have nowhere to go from there.

Cutting my collection down to a top four. That's tough.

In no particular order...

Masterpiece Blue Bluestreak: Bluestreak has always been my favorite G1 design, and this figure has the best paint job he's ever had. It's gorgeous. possibly the prettiest figure I own deco wise.

Botcon Streetstar: It's basically an action figure of my childhood fan character. Nuff said. :-D

Beast Wars Rampage: Rampage really lives up to the animation model. He's awesome, big, and dangerous. Plus it was so rewarding to finally find him. it was months after he was released that I finally found him and Depth Charge as a kid, and it was just so satisfying to finally get him. And he didn't disappoint.

Unite Warriors Devestator: Jeez, this guy is awesome. More than makes up for the flaws of the individual Constructicons. Huge, dangerous, with great articulation, and solid.
