A number of online sources, including Variety and Collider, are reporting some fairly breaking Transformers news from Machinima, and their new collaboration with Hasbro: the Titans Return animated series, sequel to Combiner Wars! It looks like the first iteration went down well enough to increase budget - and new voice actors have been brought in, shuffling around most of the cast.

That means we will now be hearing the likes of Peter Cullen, Judd Nelson, Michael Dorn, Wil Wheaton, Nolan North, and Jason David Frank, with the first two reprising their staple roles, and the latter working on Fortress Maximus, Perceptor, Metroplex, and Emissary. Check out more info below!

“Transformers: Titans Return” will feature the voice talents of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime — the role he originated for the original 1980s animated TV show – along with Wil Wheaton, Judd Nelson, Michael Dorn and Jason David Frank in the digital series from Warner Bros.’ Machinima and toy giant Hasbro.

The series is the second installment in the Transformers “Prime Wars” trilogy. “Titans Return” will premiere in November exclusively on Verizon’s Go90 video service worldwide, except in China where it will be available on Sohu.com. The series comprises 10 episodes, each about 11 minutes long. Hasbro last year rolled out the Titans Return toy line in the Transformers Generations series.

The first chapter of the trilogy, “Transformers: Combiner Wars,” has generated more than 125 million views since debuting in August 2016, exclusively on Go90 in the U.S., according to Machinima.

In “Titans Return,” Nelson reprises his roles of Rodimus Prime and Hot Rod from the 1986 animated “Transformers” movie. The show also features Wheaton as Perceptor; Dorn as Fortress Maximus; North as Metroplex; and Frank as Emissary.

Those new cast members join returning talent from “Combiner Wars,” including Abby Trott (voice of Windblade), Jason Marnocha (Megatron), Frank Todaro (Starscream), Lana McKissack (Mistress of Flame), and DashieGames (Menasor).

In addition, Machinima and Hasbro have added other YouTube influencers to the cast, in a bid to lure the digital stars’ fans to “Titans Return,” including MatPat, creator of the YouTube channels Game Theorist, Film Theorist, GT Live and MatPat’s Game Lab; Rob Dyke, a YouTube influencer best known for “Seriously Strange”; and Tay Zonday, best known for his viral “Chocolate Rain” video.

“Titans Return” picks up where the destruction of “Combiner Wars” left off. In the series, the gigantic Transformers called Titans are awakened and cause massive problems. Trypticon, a gigantic lizard-like Transformer, rises to wreak havoc on Cybertron, while Windblade and a ragtag team of Transformers must resurrect an ancient ally. The conflict will transform beloved heroes forever — while some Transformers will be blown to oblivion.

“Titans Return” is being overseen by Executive Producer and showrunner FJ DeSanto. Here’s a look at the new cast members:

Peter Cullen (OPTIMUS PRIME): The original Optimus Prime from the Transformers animated television series.
Judd Nelson (RODIMUS PRIME / HOT ROD): The famed actor from The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire reprising roles from the 1986 animated Transformers movie.
Michael Dorn (FORTRESS MAXIMUS): Starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Wil Wheaton (PERCEPTOR): Star of Big Bang Theory and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Jason David Frank (EMISSARY): Original Green Ranger from the Power Rangers TV series.
Nolan North (METROPLEX): Iconic voice actor featured in Uncharted, Halo, and Assassins Creed video games.

Operation: Crashing into TFNation, atop Ultra Magnus, it's Geoff Senior!

As a certain Transformers writer might once have mentioned - it never ends! If we have the chance to bring our attendees another guest who holds a prime place in the TF fandom, then we are going to take it. So it is with great pleasure that we announce that Geoff Senior, one of the bastions of the Marvel UK Transformers comic, is attending TFNation 2017!

From issue #42's 'Crisis Of Command' to 'On The Edge Of Extinction', Geoff brought his unique style to both the UK and US Marvel series; his bold angles and framing perfectly complimenting his partner-in-crime, writer Simon Furman. Indeed, many members of the current generation of professional Transformers artists cite Geoff's work as a key influence and inspiration.

Beyond the G1 comic, Geoff's influence has made itself felt through many iterations of the franchise from the likes of Generation 2, Titan's Transformers live-action movie books and convention exclusive stories, all the way through to IDW's Regeneration One. His art is now featuring prominently in Hachette's Definitive G1 Collection introducing a new generation to the classic series.

Outside of Transformers, Geoff teamed with Simon Furman to create everyone's favourite Freelance Peacekeeping Agent, Death's Head, as well as the British team Dragon's Claws. His art can found in Action Force/GI Joe, Doctor Who, Zoids, Dark Angel, 2000ad and Judge Dredd: Lawman of the Future, and many others.

It's hard to believe in our current comic climate but much of Geoff's original artwork from those days are scattered to the four winds. To rectify this travesty, Geoff has recently been taking on commissions, allowing people to take home their very own piece of dynamic Senior art... news that will hit many fans right in the retros! Contact Geoff at his website for more information at http://www.geoffsenior.com/

Geoff will be signing autographs and selling artwork from Friday 11th until Sunday 13th August 2017 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel at TFNation 2016 - we look forward to seeing you there!

Further transmissions to follow.

With TFCon currently stunning over in Canada, national media CBC.ca have also run a piece on the current output of IDW Publishing's Transformers stables, with a lengthy interview featuring writers John Barber, Mairghread Scott and James Roberts! (Shame about the neglected artists, really.)

While the interview does not really give any new information exactly, it's a good point to take to reflect on where the TF comics have come and will be going, with Till All Are One ending, and Optimus Prime and Lost Light reaching their second arcs, as First Strike is about to .. Strike the Hasbro Universe too. Check out some snippets below, and read the whole interview here!

The writers' biggest challenge is figuring out how to explore gender in a race that has rarely encountered it while avoiding making the characters feel wholly alien to readers.

"If you took a hard-science-fiction look at a world of machine life that reproduces asexually, ideas like gender and sex would be either nonexistent or very, very different than our human understanding and background in those issues," says Barber.

"But Transformers stories exist in our human world, where we know Optimus Prime is male because people say 'he' and he sounds like (voice actor) Peter Cullen and whatnot. So there's gender in there whether it makes hard-science-fiction sense or not."

[...]

"Initially, you were invited to think of them [Rewind and Chromedome --V] as very good friends, and as the story progressed, as I became more confident in what I could and couldn't do, we became more explicit in establishing them as 'robot husbands,'" says Roberts. "And I'm pleased to say that everyone involved — IDW editorial and Hasbro — have run with it. And fans, most importantly, seemed to like it."

[...]

"There are certain things that Hasbro will dictate that they do or do not want, but other than major things like 'Don't kill our main characters' or 'We really want to highlight this person,' they let us tell the stories that we want to tell," says Scott.

Via fellow Seibertronian SnoopDawg, we have some potential casting choices for the Paramount Bumblebee prequel, already starring Hailee Steinfeld and Jorge Lendenborg Jr, as featured in The Hollywood Reporter. This looks to be an extremely young cast indeed, and with Spielberg reportedly involved in the production again, it looks like Paramount is shifting its efforts on a more targeted audience. Check out more info below!

Paramount's Transformers spinoff Bumblebee is quickly rounding out its cast, adding a handful of young actors including Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny, who are in various stages of negotiations.

[...]

The film will clearly feature a slew of young rising stars: Drucker was most recently seen in Fox’s reboot Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. He’s repped by Coast to Coast and Industry Entertainment.

Hoyos starred on Degrassi: Next Class and also was seen in The Belko Experiment. He’s repped by Industry Entertainment.

Quinn starred opposite Jenny Slate in Gillian Robespierre's Landline, which played at Sundance and hits theaters on July 21. She also stars opposite Joey King in Radium Girls. She’s repped by CAA and Rebecca Kitt & Associates.

Crow has appeared on the TV shows BrainSurge, Big Time Rush and Figure It Out and voiced Carla in the animated film Rio 2. She’s repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment.

Dzienny’s credits include TV series Zoo and Chasing Life. She’s repped by Innovative Artists and Inphenate.

The back matter of this week's issue of IDW Publishing's Optimus Prime #9 - review coming soon, so keep an eye out for that - includes an interview with the three creators behind Rom vs Transformers: Shining Armor: writers John Barber and Christos Gage, and artist Alex Milne (who will be joined by Josh Perez on colours)! We've copied below what the three have to say to support the book and new character Stardrive - check it out!

John, Christos—does this series mark the first time that Rom and the Transformers meet? We
saw them together in IDW’s Revolution event, but this story is set 200 years in the past!

CNG: Yes, this is the first time Rom has met a Transformer. As we begin the miniseries, the Solstar Order and the Cybertronians are aware of each other's existence, but until this story they have
stayed in their own territories. But the end of the Wraith War—which led to the Dire Wraiths fleeing throughout the universe—has changed things!

JB: It's also the first time the Dire Wraiths meet the Decepticons. We've never seen what happens when a Wraith takes over a Cybertronian body before... and the results aren't pretty.

Stardrive is a unique character for a crossover like this—a Transformer that’s also part of the Solstar Order. How does this conflict affect her personality?

CNG: The interesting thing about Stardrive is that she has never met another Transformer before this miniseries. She has only been given the Solstar Order's take on them: that Cybertronians are destructive machine monsters that rampage through world destroying organic life. She's told that
she's "better" because she was raised differently, but it's unmistakable that she's been brought up to feel there's something wrong with her. Now, for the first time, she's actually meeting beings of her own species—and they're from opposite factions, so she's more torn and confused than ever!

JB: Stardrive's been an outsider her whole life, and when she meets other Cybertronians, she doesn't expect to feel even more alone. She's not part of their war; she doesn't want to be destructive
like they've actually become.

Working with Alex Milne on this—did you approach it any differently than previous projects? Were the scripts very specific or did you give him a lot of leeway on the art?

CNG: We worked plot-first and I think it was the right approach. John told me Alex loves to add detail, and boy, does he! We'd give him a four-panel page and he'd turn it into a nine-panel page chock-full of aliens (all different species) and sci-fi tech. I love it! I grew up on George Perez so Alex's stuff is right up my alley!

JB: Alex had an amazing run on More Than Meets the Eye for so many years, where he started out as a fantastic artist and only got better. I'd seen a lot of his sketches and his conceptual work as that
series went on, so I definitely wanted to make sure he had the opportunity to design this series—new worlds, new characters, new aliens, new space ships. It's not even just a visual thing—Alex thinks this stuff through from top to bottom, and that definitely shows through in the comic.

Alex, your art on this story is just on another level—crazy amounts of detail and panel-heavy layouts! Can you tell us a bit about how you approached the art for this project?

AM: The script for the book is written in a plot style—it leaves me with a lot of options on how to approach it. Unlike past scripts I've worked on that have had full dialogue and descriptions for the
panels, here it's all up to me, so I'm not worrying about trying to fit a lot of different actions into one panel. It's a very interesting creative freedom I feel working on this book. It pushes me to try different things and to see what I can come up with not just in the art but in the storytelling as well. It's a nice change for me!

So far, the only casting news we had of the Bumblebee spinoff film was Hailee Steinfeld as the female lead. Well now we know the male lead as well and it will be Jorge Lendeborg Jr. You can currently see this young actor in Spider-Man Homecoming as Jason. 2018 is a pretty busy year for him where you will also find him in Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Alita: Battle Angel. This news broke through the Hollywood Reporter.

Fellow Seibertronian xRotorstormx has alerted us to the sad fact that the well known voice director Wally Burr has passed away at the age of 93. He was known for his work on Akira, Jem, and, most notably, the 1980's Transformers TV series and it's follow up 1986 theatrical film, as well as many other classic pieces of media.

Wally was imperative in the 1970's-1980's Cartoon landscape, and his impact, while often underappreciated, will live on in the shows and films he worked on. Many of our favorite classic shows, including our beloved Transformers, would have been very different without Wally's influence and his signature perfection-driven direction. He will be truly missed, and the thoughts of Seibertron.com are with his friends and family.
