Still sad about Botcon ending? Are you bummed about Hascon not coming back until 2019? Well, there is some good news on the Transformers-themed convention front. TFCon is the largest fan-run convention in the world, and their USA convention will be held from October 26-28, 2018 in Rosemont, Illinois (a Chicago suburb).

Transformers News: TFCon USA 2018

TFCon began in 2002 as a Canadian Transformers fan convention, and expanded to the USA in 2014. Their most recent convention was in Washington, D.C. earlier this fall. While no guests or dealer information for 2018 are available yet, judging solely by their past guest lists, they should have some great appearances. Previous guests have included all manner of big names in the Transformers world- 2016's TFCon USA had voice actors Michael Bell, Gregg Berger, Garry Chalk, Richard Newman, Jon Bailey, Jason Marnocha, and Frank Todaro; from the Transformers comic book worlds of both G1 and IDW, Bob Budiansky, Nick Roche, Alex Milne, Sara Pitre-Durocher, Andrew Griffith, Casey Coller, Brendan Cahill, Corin Howell, Josh Perez, Josh Burcham and Matt Moylan.

Have any Seibertronians been to a TFCon, either in the USA or Canada? Are you excited for this news and already planning for 2018? Let us know below!

It's that time again to make your voice heard in the Transformers Hall of Fame vote for 2017! Hasbro is asking fans to help nominate inductees into the Transformers Hall of Fame within three categories. The categories are:

Click on each of the three links above to cast your nominations from our lists.

Transformers News: Hasbro's 2017 Transformers Hall of Fame Fans' Choice Voting

As you know, no characters who have already been inducted within the 'Favorite Character' category will be considered for nomination. In a fun twist this year, in celebration of the release of Transformers: The Last Knight and the 10 year anniversary of the film franchise, any character that appears in the films is eligible for nomination in the 'Favorite Movie Character' category regardless of their nomination or induction previously (if Megatron can win for G1 and Beast Wars, it is only fair!). A list of inducted characters can be found at the bottom of this post.

The new category '2017 Transformers Toy of the Year' is being introduced to provide fans an opportunity to share their passion for the figures that have been the heartbeat of the brand for over 30 years. This new category is meant to celebrate the new product within the calendar year and the ongoing efforts of the Hasbro Transformers team to fulfill the desires of our many fans around the world with innovative and exciting toys. All nominations for this category must be toys newly released by Hasbro in 2017 and can include figures that are yet to hit shelves in the calendar year, but have been announced.

Participate in EACH poll so that we can determine the characters Seibertron.com's citizens wants considered for each category of the Transformers Hall of Fame. We'll share the Top 3 nominees for each category (nine nominees total) including the number of votes with Hasbro by 5pm on Sunday July 16th.

We will rank all of your polling results list in order of who received the most votes for each category. All polling result lists will be combined together, each Transformers fansite outlet getting an equal voice. Hasbro will use the combined values to generate the final ballot of three choices for each category. Details will follow regarding the official voting process in the coming weeks.

Winners of the final polling will be announced at HASCON, the official Hasbro Fanmily Event (September 8-10th in Providence, RI), during the Transformers Hall of Fame Dinner Event on Friday the 8th!

As a reminder, below are the characters and people who have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame. If you see a notable character missing from one of our lists, please let us know so that we might consider adding it.

Operation: Stephen Baskerville to attend TFNation 2017

We are pleased to announce that the ever-charming Stephen Baskerville will be attending TFNation 2017.

A seasoned comic and concept artist, Stephen has lent his talents to countless projects during his career, with no sign of letting up. Providing comic art for characters as diverse as Spider-man, Judge Dredd, Snake Plissken, various denizens of the Beano-verse, the JSA and Thomas the Tank Engine as well as videogame designs for the likes of Reservoir Dogs, SpongeBob Squarepants, GI Joe, Doctor Who and Barbie (sadly not all appearing in the one title, that’s one crossover ripe for the taking).

But it’s for his Transformers work that many of our attendees will both recognise and appreciate Stephen’s art, with a new generation of fans discovering his talents through Hachette’s TRANSFORMERS DEFINITIVE G1 COLLECTION. We look forward to discussion on this release, alongside Fellow TFNation guests Simon Furman, Bob Budiansky and series (re)colourist John-Paul Bove

Working on the British G1 comic, inking for artists including Andrew Wildman, Stephen’s distinct style brought a polished organic edge to many a Cybertronian. After popping back briefly to ink the last edition of the TRANSFORMERS ARMADA comic, a full return to the franchise was announced with the start of IDW’s REGENERATION ONE series, along with the aforementioned Andrew Wildman, writer Simon Furman, artist Guido Guidi and colourist John-Paul Bove, the latter two of whom he continued to collaborate with on the DRIFT: EMPIRE OF STONE miniseries

If you want to contact Stephen before the event, head over to his webpage https://baskervillecomics.carbonmade.com/

Stephen will be signing autographs and selling artwork at TFNation 2017, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel - we look forward to seeing you there!

The latest update from TFNation comes as another guest announcement, and another that was inevitable to happen - Simon Furman, the Marvel US, UK, Dreamwave, IDW writer (and for many more still) of Transformers fiction! Check out more info below.

TFNation_2017
Operation: Simon Furman to attend TFNation 2017

For the last three decades, Simon Furman has been one of, if not THE most significant contributors to Transformers lore. Be it comics, television, movies, or games, Simon's influence is still being felt today. From his direct involvement with publications and interactive media, to the ongoing comic stories which have grown out of the rich continuity he pioneered at IDW, Simon's power is beyond measure.

Probably of most current significance to fans, Simon is involved in The Definitive Transformers Generation One Collection from Hachette, crafting the most comprehensive collection of Transformers fiction to date and, with the help of fellow TFNation guest John-Paul Bove, making it look better than ever.

Fans old and new of the Marvel-era material will not want to miss the chance to see both Simon Furman and fellow guest Bob Budiansky, essentially the fathers of Transformers as we know it, at their first dedicated UK convention together!

Simon's body of work outside of Transformers is almost as vast as a predatory bird, with varied comics titles such as Scream, Alpha Flight, What If...?, Thundercats, Doctor Who and much more, and television projects like Dan Dare, Matt Hatter Chronicals, and X-Men Evolution, which also starred fellow Beast Wars co-worker and TFNation guest Venus Terzo as Jean Grey.

Not content to stop there, Simon has collaborated with Transformers legend Geoff Senior to create the cult Brit-classic Dragon's Claws, recent internet sensation To The Death, and of course, our beloved Freelance Peace-Keeper; Death's Head! It never ends!!

Simon's current adventures are detailed on his blog over at: https://simonfurman.wordpress.com and is well worth following!

Simon will be signing autographs and selling comics and script packs from Friday 11th until Sunday 13th August 2017 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel at TFNation 2017. We look forward to seeing you there!

NEW INFORMATION - EXTRA HOTEL ROOMS

As many of you have seen from our recent photographs, several members of the TFNation crew recently visited the Hilton to perform preparations for this year’s event. Whilst there we were able to discuss the issues some attendees have raised with bedrooms.

In an attempt to facilitate as many of our attendees as possible, the Hilton has generously provided us with some additional bedrooms for the nights around our convention nights. There will now be accommodation available at the discounted rate on the following nights;

Wednesday 9th August 2017
Thursday 10th August 2017
Friday 11th August 2017
Saturday 12th August 2017
Sunday 13th August 2017
Monday 14th August 2017
Tuesday 15th August 2017

It is very important to note that due to high demand in the area (owing to the Festival of Quilts, and other events) the amount of rooms we will be allocated for these additional nights is likely to be extremely limited. There will be no “top up” rooms made available later – once they are gone, that is likely to be it.

As previously mentioned, only the three convention nights are contracted to us – we are therefore incredibly grateful for the Hilton agreeing to release additional nights at a discounted rate, when they were fully entitled to sell them at full value.

NEW INFORMATION – FAMILY ROOMS AND DISABLED ACCESS ROOMS

Our allocation will now include a small number of family rooms, which will also be presented at a discounted rate. Please note these are ONLY to be booked by families and not by single attendees. Please be mindful of those whose entire weekend depends on this room type.

NEW INFORMATION– TICKET SALES TIME

As previously advised, tickets and hotels rooms will go on general sale on 1st February 2017. We can now confirm that we aim to open sales at 6pm GMT.

For our international friends, this works out as follows;

7pm CET
1pm EST
12pm CST
10am PST
5am AEDT Thursday 2nd
7am NZDT Thursday 2nd

We hope this will provide as many people as possible with a good chance of securing a ticket and that all important bedroom.

Another announcement from TFNation 2017's headquarters, and it's a big chunk of comics one for Transformers fans - as Bob Budiansky is announced as guest for the summer event in Birmingham, UK! Check out more info below, and keep an eye out for more updates as they roll in.

Operation: Bob Budiansky to attend TFNation 2017

We are honoured to announce that Bob Budiansky, the man who started the Transformer mythos and gave us so many of the iconic characters we enjoy today, will be joining us for his first UK Transformer event, at TFNation 2017.

Bob’s history goes back to the early 1970’s after his reintroduction to the world of comic books. A passion he would late turn into a lifelong career.

As an editor, illustrator, and writer, mostly for Marvel, Bob witnessed, first hand, some of the most defining years in the industry. He edited titles like Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four and contributed many covers to other titles across the Marvel universe. His involvement on Ghost Rider (with Dave Simons and Roger Stern) spans a period many fans considered as a defining era in the character's history and he created and wrote his own series, Sleepwalker.

And then, there are the Transformers…

Approached by Hasbro in 1983 to create a story line around a series of transforming toy robots, Marvel’s initial material was rejected before Bob stepped in, renaming most of the characters and revising personalities for the likes of Megatron, the Dinobots, Wheeljack, and countless others. He edited the very first Transformers mini-series in 1984 and scripted most of the next 50-plus issues of the US run. He also named and created the character profiles for over 250 of the Transformer toys (yes, the original tech specs) during the first six years of the brand’s existence, developing new story treatments as Hasbro introduced new lines of Transformers. On top of all this, he occasionally even pencilled a Transformers comic book cover or two. Bob’s work on Transformers doesn’t just end there though as he returned to the franchise to write IDW’s Transformers The Movie 20th Anniversary miniseries.
Bob Budiansky will be meeting fans, signing autographs and taking part in panels during our convention, which will run from Friday 11th and Sunday 13th August 2017.

Further transmissions to follow, including an update on 28/01 on the latest ticket and hotel details.

Mr. Budiansky is responsible for much of the writing of the original Marvel Transformers comic, and conceived the names of most of the original Transformers including Megatron. He also wrote the vast majority of the descriptive tech spec biographies printed on the Transformers toy packages that Hasbro produced in the 1980s, giving each character it’s own unique personality.

Mr. Budiansky will be taking part in a Q&A panels and meeting with fans all weekend long.

In 2010, Hasbro founded its Transformers Hall of Fame, honoring both robotic characters and some of the humans responsible for their creation that have left an everlasting mark on the world of our favorite Robots in Disguise. Now in its seventh year, Hasbro is once again turning to fans to help select three Fans’ Choice inductees for the class of 2016!

Transformers News: Hasbro's 2016 Transformers Hall of Fame Fans' Choice Voting

That's right, this year there are three Fans' Choice categories, and these are:

FAVORITE TRANSFORMERS CHARACTER (Fictional Robot Character)

** VOTE FOR YOUR 2016 "FAVORITE TRANSFORMERS CHARACTER" CHOICE BY CLICKING HERE **

FAVORITE UNDERRATED TRANSFORMERS CHARACTER (Fictional Robot Character)

** VOTE FOR YOUR 2016 "FAVORITE UNDERRATED TRANSFORMERS CHARACTER" CHOICE BY CLICKING HERE **

BEST TRANSFORMERS-RELATED MUSICAL ACT (REAL-LIFE HUMANS)

** VOTE FOR YOUR 2016 "BEST TRANSFORMERS-RELATED MUSICAL ACT" CHOICE BY CLICKING HERE **

All polling result lists from the various Transformers fansites will be combined together (each outlet getting an equal voice) to generate the final ballot of three choices for each category. Details for the final ballot's voting process are forthcoming.

Winners of the final polling will be announced at BotCon 2016, the official Transformers Convention, in Louisville, KY, April 7 - 10!

  • Frank Welker (Class of 2015)

To recap, here's how the process will work:

Phase 1: Using our results from previous years, combined with staff input, we've created polls which will allow you to select which 3 characters you'd like to see selected. Due to the small time window for collection of votes, the options on these polls have been pre-selected by the site staff, which is a departure from the open nomination structure that we've used in past years. We'll tally those poll results together on the morning (in the US) of Wednesday, March 9, 2016 to determine which Transformers characters the fans on Seibertron.com think should be considered, and the results will then be sent to Hasbro.

Nominees for the "Favorite Transformers Character" category, mostly based on data from previous years, include: Blackarachnia, Cyclonus, Galvatron, Omega Supreme, Rattrap, Ravage, Scorponok, Springer, Thundercracker, and Unicron.
You may vote for the "Favorite Transformers Character" category on our forums by clicking here.

Nominees for the "Favorite Underrated Transformers Character" category, based somewhat on data from previous years as well as a heavy dose of staff input, include: Cosmos, First Aid, Heatwave the Fire-Bot, Hot Shot, Lockdown, Lugnut, Noble, Punch/Counterpunch, Rhinox, Rung, Scrounge, Sideways, Sky-Byte, Transmutate, and Whirl.
You may vote for the "Favorite Underrated Transformers Character" category on our forums by clicking here.

Nominees for the "Favorite Transformers-Related Musical Act" category, based on an entirely unscientific process, include many popular and iconic music acts from throughout the years of the Transformers brand, plus a couple of "just for fun" options!
You may vote for the "Favorite Transformers-Related Musical Act" category on our forums by clicking here.

Phase 2: Hasbro will then tally the results together from all of the Transformers fan sites to create the final ballot. Details on this voting process will follow in the coming weeks.

Phase 3: The winning Transformers characters and Musical Act will be announced at BotCon 2016 in Louisville, KY.

Have fun voting, and remember to keep your optic sensors here on Seibertron.com for all the latest News, Transformers Toy Galleries, Podcasts, and more, MUCH more than meets the eye!
