Camshaft

Function: Road Warrior
“The road is no place for the weak”

Has no fear of car accidents—can pulverize any vehicle that approaches within 4 inches. Reckless driver due to arrogant self-confidence. Unconcerned with humans’ safety. Aggressive in battle car mode rear fenders convert to powerful fists capable of 30 punches per minute and trunk turns into high-energy plasma beam projector...same weapons in robot mode. Loses driving control when using weapons in car mode.

Downshift

Function: Air-Defense
“If war is the only reason to live, then living isn't worth it.”

Fought for so long on .Cybertron he wondered whether to continue... nothing pleased him until arrival on Earth ...here he delights in everything...all fresh and new to him...likes children...calls them mini-men and mini-women. Has magnetic-guided ground-to-air rocket launchers on shoulders in robot mode... also can be used in car mode...30 mile range … rust rifle weakens foes with stream of liquid oxidizing agents. Not effective versus non-ferrous foes.

Flying Trooper
“The race is not important; the finish line is.”

Road-racing his passion--considers it Earth's main cultural advantage over Cybertron. Only cares about winning … he'll fly to win a race, do whatever's necessary to win a fight. Goes 190 mph in car-mode...can sprout wings from doors and fly...range 700 miles ... speed 300 mph. Hood converts to twin hi-powered machine guns … Same abilities in robot mode not as good a flier. Overall not as good a flyer as most flying opponents.

A woman by the name of Alia Madden has sued the DreamWorks production team of the Transformers Blockbuster hit movie of 2007, as reported by the New York Post. According to her lawyer, Daniel Abraham, the papers filed against the movie state that Madden designed and copyrighted the design, from which for movie purposes, the copyrights of the freshener were removed.

The air freshener was hanging from Bumblebee's rear view mirror during scenes of the movie. People think that Madden copied the design from the movie, while she licenced the design back in 2002. According to Madden, DreamWorks bought several air fresheners from her, but never asked permission to sell their own version of it and didn't tell her the item was to be used in the movie. The movie is being sued for $850,000.

Transformers writer Simon Furman has updated his blogpage and added a little special gift for us Transformers fans. The following has been taken directly from his blog, where you can also download the document containing the script for the unproduced Beast Wars Comic.

"A big HAPPY HOLIDAYS (from me) to one and all in this the festive season. And special thanks to all of you who’ve visited, commented on or otherwise supported my blogging efforts to date. And here’s a little Xmas something for you all, a look at the Beast Wars series that never was, in the shape of my original script for ‘Shell Game’ issue #1. Created to tie in with the BW Summer Special story published by a certain ex-TF publisher, it differs significantly from what became (in the fullness of time) Beast Wars: The Gathering. Click on the link below to view. Enjoy… and I’ll be back on New Year’s Eve (or before) with my retrospective look at 07 (and maybe a look forward to 08!)".

The new Optimus Prime will appear on the cover of this issue. WOMEN OF ACTION! • We run down our 50 favorite females in fiction, including the characters who have action figures, the ones who look like action figures, and the ones who need action figures! From She-Ra to Ripley to Wonder Woman, it's an estrovaganza! RETRO: M.U.S.C.L.E. • Remember those little pink guys that came in garbage cans? They were intergalactic wrestlers, and they were awesome. We look at their sordid history, their failed comeback bid and the awesome toys we never got in America! A DECADE OF DC DIRECT • The comic toy makers turn 10, and we're celebrating along with them! We'll talk to them about their 10 years in toys, and we run down our 10 favorite DC Direct toys from the last 10 years! Twisted ToyFare Theatre! • Each month is an insane trip inside our toy library, as classic toy lines of yesterday and today come to life…and have to deal with all of the same junk we do. What crazy adventure will the toys of 'TTT' go on next?

An article on CNN Money appeared about Digital Domain, one of the special effects houses responsible for the digital effects on Michael Bay's Transformers movie. According to the article the company plans to go IPO (Initial Public Offering, a first time offering to sell public stock) on Wall Street.

The article goes in depth about the decision, and wonders if this is a smart move for the company at this time. Explaining that while company is growing, so are their losses. If the company does not pull through after selling stock, it might mean the end for Digital Domain. What impact this might have on future projects, including future Transformers movies is not known at this time.

On Wednesday, the United States House of Representatives voted 407-0 in favor of a new bill regarding toy safety. The bill was created due to the lead fiasco, compliments of Mattel and other toy makers. Here's some of the highlights of the story posted at Yahoo.com.

"The House's bill would require a gradual reduction of lead content in children's products, with the limit going down to 100 parts per million effective four years after enactment."

Stricter regulations may cause toys in general to go up in price as it will be the corporations and factories that will have to monitor the products more closely.

"It would also require manufacturers to include tracking labels on products to speed recalls of toys for children aged 12 and younger, while mandating independent safety testing of toys by labs accredited by the CPSC."

Again, more costs. Transformers are marketed to the 5-12 age range. Also, the tracking labels on products does not state whether the labels will be just on the packaging of the products. Since most people do not keep their boxes, could we see additional markings showing up on the toys themselves?

"The bill would steadily increase the CPSC's budget to $100 million by fiscal 2011. Plus, it would raise penalties for failing to cooperate with the CPSC to $10 million from the current $1.25 million, while giving the beleaguered agency $20 million to modernize its toy-testing laboratory."

Currently, the Senate is also looking into the bill as well. We'll keep you posted regarding this bill as it moves from the Senate to the White House.
