Each month I'm supposed to write something about one of the pieces of artwork in the newsletter but occasionally we just get too much great stuff for me to single one item out. This month we have Autobot_Switchback's own invention Rollbar. Designing a Transformer must be a tricky task and this design also has plenty of eye-candy detail without going overboard. Kriksix has given us some truly epic comic cover art in which Megatron has torn the Matrix from Prime's carcass. A nice touch is that it even has a 32p price tag which will probably get some of us older members reminiscing about 'the good ol days'. Altitron's commissioned artwork featuring Blackarachnia from five different universes is finally complete and coloured beautifully. After seeing this evolve over ten months its a relief to finally see this in all its glory. Last but not least Rally Racer has given us a poster of what would probably be the greatest metal group of all time if they had ever stopped shooting at each other's feet and formed a band.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all you artists to follow the submission guidelines before submitting your work for the Transtopia Newsletter:
1) don't post pictures in the submission thread, just post a link to your thread
2) the picture(s) must be in a thread here on Seibertron
3) artwork must be visible in the thread, not merely a link to another location

The Transtopian Forums have been rather quiet recently so if you've enjoyed looking at someone's work please tell them so! They'll appreciate a little compliment and it doesn't take long to post. Constructive criticism is often welcome too.

And now the artwork, just click the images to visit the artist's thread with the full-sized images and sometimes even more artwork!

"Now is not the time for grievances; we need to work together if we are to survive"

Once every great while a duo teams up...
Batman and Robin, Rumble and Frenzy, Peanut butter and Jelly...
and now, Hellkitty and Carriemus Prime!!!

Thats right folks, the writers of my last two months selections teamed up. They have been co-authoring the tale Cave In. When good an evil must work together, and its a matter of survival, alliances will be forged and broken. This is possably my favorite piece i have read yet. I definitely give this 5 Autobot/Decepticon Super Scramble subgroup combiners out of 5!!

So now for the other news: This being October now, I also recommend the Alien and Zombie TF stories submitted. I would also really enjoy if anyone felt like writing a spooky or creepy Halloween story. Starscream's Ghost? Terrorcons or Horrorcons maybe? Metroplex becoming a haunted house?

So untill you see me next month,

Name_Violation, Hiding, lurking, waiting..

For extra interactive fun, see if you can figure out who wrote what!

The new ship had worked much better than predicted. It sailed easily into the vacuum of space, even with its new payload of Neptunium* Nadya Cherenkov was pleased as she worked the controls of their new ship. She and Philippe Stokes had been given clearance to fly the ship on its maiden voyage to Neptune’s largest moon Triton, to mine the new mineral, as they had been some of the only astronauts to have knowledge of their allies. Glancing out of the cockpit window, she gave a small wave. The small yellow Autobot inclined his head in a nod and waved back, he was joined by a much larger black and white mech who cast him a stern look. Bumblebee chastised, returned to escorting the shuttle back to Earth.

“How you holding up back there, Philippe?”

“I really wish you didn’t call me that.”

“It suits you.” Nadya laughed lightlyat the grumbling from the back of the reverse-engineered shuttle. Stokes glided up to join her in the cockpit.

“Shame they couldn’t figure out the artificial gravity from the Ark’s specs.” He sighed as he buckled himself in.

“You should be used to the zero g by now.”

“Doesn’t mean I have to like it. How’s our taxi service doing?”

Nadya glanced once more out of the cockpit. “We have three escorts that I’ve seen. Bumblebee has already got the glare from Prowl; Ironhide is taking up the rear.”

“Man, Prowl doesn’t relax does he?”

“Not that I’ve noticed. I like it—he gets the job done.” Nadya chuckled, as Stokes pulled a face.

Their comm. system filled with static as they left the vicinity of Neptune.

“Optimus to the Intrepid.”

“Go ahead Optimus, this is Nadya.”

“What is your status?”

“We’re on our way back, ahead of schedule and we have enough Neptunium for you guys to work with for at least a couple of decades.”

“That’s good news, Intrepid; the Ark is positioned outside the asteroid belt. We willdock you with you in approximately 30 minutes. Optimus out.”

“Bet they’re pleased,” grinned Stokes. This mission had been planned for just over a year with the help of the Autobots after the first discovery of naturally existing Neptunium was detected by their very own ISS. The President had thought it fitting to provide their new allies with the means to collect energy to sustain themselves and potentially replace their dwindling energy reserves after what they had done to save planet Earth.

Blackout’s cargo hold recoiled as he fired his main gun. Dead End jumped, his eyes shifting nervously.

“Calm down,” Barricade said. He rose to his knees, fixing the attachment points of the booster pack under his fairings. “Means it’s about time.”

The smaller bot scrambled, grabbing at his own pack, running nervous hands over the pile of carry harness.
“I am calm,” he lied.

“Know your job?” Barricade grabbed for a handhold as Blackout swung wide.

“Yeah,” Dead End said, hotly. “Know what I’m doing.” He lost his footing and fell into the pile of plasmetal straps.

Blackout cut in. “Why we trust you with the explosives, Barricade.”

“Thought you were hoping I’d blow myself up,” Barricade said dryly.

“That too.”

“The love here overwhelms me.” Barricade frowned. “Hate these things.” He jerked on a lower attachment of the booster pack.

“Think you hate them?” Blackout groused. “Rotors pinned back so tight it’s blurring my damn optics. Don’t get me started on the heat.” Blackout notoriously hated space combat—his rotors could get no lift, and like Barricade and Dead End, had to don an awkward external thruster system. Starscream had thrust in any atmosphere, of course. Bastard could probably get lift in a black hole.

“Done chatting, ladies?” Starscream cut in sourly across the comms. “If you don’t mind, we do have a tactical situation that might prove diverting.”

“…divert you;” Blackout muttered, cutting his external comm. “Get ready. Taking you in now.” The interior chamber filled with the roar of Blackout’s added thrusters. The door peeled open. Barricade grabbed the explosive case, slinging the detonators over his shoulder, and jumped out. His light boosters carried him toward the steel-white sides of the human spacecraft. Behind him, Blackout swung around, his guns blazing in suppressive fire. Two of the Autobots came up from Blackout’s six. Blackout’s move fouled Dead End’s exit—the small red bot tumbled, the carry harness falling out of its tidy configuration. Great, Barricade thought: Dead End’s in his usual form.

He slung his explosive case against the side of the shuttle, hearing its magnets clang on. With one last look behind him, he got to work. Simple job: Blow the cargo hold free of the rest of the ship. Get the Neptunium; bring it back to the Nemesis. Secondary orders, according to Soundwave (muttered in Barricade’s private comm) were to blow the Neptunium. Deny the asset to the enemy if nothing else works.

Dead End squealed, recoiling back from the ship, his boosters sending him spinning wildly. Barricade cursed and shot off after him. He grabbed the smaller bot roughly by the ankle and thrust him back toward the cargo hold. “Squishy!” Dead End said. “In the ship!”

“Squeamish?” Barricade taunted. “Do your damn job.”

“Haste would be appreciated,” Starscream cut in. He was really overusing the all-comms channel. Apparently thought his every utterance was worth wide broadcast. “The actual fighters here are outnumbered. And they have called for reinforcements.”

“On it,” Barricade said, with one last glare at Dead End, and turned back to the shuttle.

Nadya noticed a little bit of commotion flash in front of the cockpit. “Whoa!” she gasped; Stokes glanced up. “What is it?” Without warning the shuttle was rocked violently, alarms sounded from the control panel. Smoke hissed above their heads.

“Fire! We got fire!” Stokes unbuckled himself and grabbed the nearest extinguisher. Another violent motion knocked the defenseless shuttle, sending it careering off course.

“I can’t hold position! Navigation is shot!”

“Take us back, reverse course it’s programmed into the autopilot!” Stokes yelled as he was thrown into the nearest bulkhead. Nadya struggled with the violently bucking ship. She could see the Autobots frantically yelling to each other outside. They were firing at someone. She saw Bumblebee take a hit and go spinning across her vision, barely missing the cockpit.

“We’re being attacked!”

“What?!” Stokes managed to crawl back into his seat and buckle in.

He stared incredulously outside the window, Prowl was firing rapidly after managing to grab a hold of Bumblebee to stabilize him. Ironhide’s cannons could be heard over the din of the alarms.

“Send out the distress beacon. Let’s hope they don’t blow it up.”

Nadya punched a red button in response. With expert dexterity she managed to punch in the ship’s Autopilot and the ship bucked to the right sharply in response.

Blackout dodged another of Ironhide’s cannon bursts. He let loose with one of his own missiles. Went wide, of course, as the recoil wobbled against his forward thrust. With these damn thrusters, he couldn’t shake his vehicle mode.

Next to him, Starscream spun agilely, swiping at Bumblebee as he zipped past. Ironhide rippled a salvo of shots after him, almost hitting his fellow Autobot. Even the Decepticons could hear Bumblebee’s squeal of outrage.

Where was the third? There were three. Blackout swung his thrusters, dropping below the shuttle. Unlikely the Autobots would assign a coward to escort duty. The third Autobot was around here somewhere. Where?

There. Crawling up the dark side of the ship, trying to flank Barricade. Barricade was engrossed in the delicate work of laying the detonating cord in the explosive gel, measuring the timing fuses against a calibration on his wrist. A light flow of the thrusters pressed him against the ship. Behind Barricade, Dead End scrambled with lengths of the carry harness; oblivious to everything except the mess he was unsnarling. Needing, of course, an actual warrior to save their baseplates.

Blackout roared his thrusters, swooping to snatch the Autobot off the ship. Before he could reach him, the Autobot made his move, firing at Barricade. The Decepticon leapt back, on pure instinct, the thrusters turning his leap into a spinning loop in the null g. Barricade flailed, detonators flying. Prowl launched himself bodily at Barricade. He pounded on Barricade’s head and face, the Decepticon unable to block his blows—his arms pinned against his torso. Prowl growled in Barricade’s audio’s as he forcibly tried to remove him from the ship; his voice was eerily calm and controlled. “I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to disembark.”

Beyond them, Starscream and Ironhide had engaged. The smaller Autobot had somehow managed to get in close with Starscream, bodily forcing his right arm upwards, out of the way. Starscream pounded him in the head with his free hand, knocking him off, closer to the body of the ship. As Ironhide stabilized his spin, he spotted Blackout, rising up over the shuttle, aiming his reticle at Prowl, waiting for the two bots to stabilize until he got a clear shot.

Ironhide fired, as Starscream laid into him from the side with his chain gun. The pulse cannon’s blast zipped harmlessly past the two struggling bots, and straight into the explosives case.

Blackout had time for one thought, and that obscene, before the black of space went white, roaring into silence.

Part 2

The ship careened violently, the explosion sending the fragile shuttle into terrifying spin; alarms and smoke filled the cockpit as the two occupants tried desperately to control the inferno that now raged inside the metal hull. White clouds of oxygen vented into space, forcing the ship into an unstable tumble as it was caught in Triton’s gravity field. In one last desperate attempt the shuttle pilot managed to swerve the shuttle violently, forcing it into autopilot as it straightened and plummeted towards the surface. The gaping wound bleeding precious oxygen into space. The Autobots realizing what she was doing raced after the damaged ship letting out cover fire as they raced back to the moon’s dark surface.

Ironhide evaded Starscream, who snarled in frustration and chased after him, grapping hold of the smaller mech they tumbled towards the shuttle, casting off an orange glow from its nose as it hit atmosphere.

Bumblebee tackled Blackout, wrenching at the copter’s bound-back rotors. He found himself losing the upper hand against the bigger, stronger Decepticon although he prevented him from reaching Prowl and Barricade who were wrestling near the ship.

Barricade’s armour was blackened and scorched from the initial explosion, his booster pack had fused to his back plates and he was struggling to see clearly through the pain. He had inadvertently shielded Prowl from the blast and was now at a severe disadvantage; with a roar of agony and anger he clambered onto Prowl’s frame and managed to get a couple of punches to the black and white mech’s head.

“Having a really bad day!” He snarled angrily, in time with his punches. “This almost makes it worthwhile.”

Prowl shoved him hard into the side of the ship, causing Barricade to cry out in pain as he landed on his scorched, twisted back plates. “I’m about to make it worse!” Prowl answered, drawing his weapon and raising it at Barricade’s face. Without warning the struggling mass of seeker and weapons master slammed into Prowl, sending him flying into Barricade causing him to howl as the booster pack was forced into his back even further, at the force of the blow.

Struggling, Starscream managed to get clear of Ironhide who was closer to the nose of the cone, almost obscured by the leaking oxygen. Raising his weapons he sneered in satisfaction.

“NO!” All three mechs cried out at once as Starscream opened rapid fire at Ironhide; the oxygen cloud ignited and engulfed them and the ship, Starscream screamed in surprise and pain as they hurtled towards the moon.

Stokes dragged a limp Nadya from the cockpit, forcing her into one of the emergency space suits, the breach was venting fast. He struggled to get into his suit as the shuttle jerked against the thin atmosphere of Triton, clicking his helmet shut his eyes were greeted by a white hot glow of a secondary explosion. Shutting his visor he caught a last glimpse of the moon racing toward them, and then everything went black.

Starscream hit the surface of the moon with a force hard enough to bounce. The oxygen had exploded on him, blinding his optics and blowing out the barrels of one of his chain guns. He was shrieking in pain, his limbs flailing wildly, casting clouds of dust and small stones into the thin atmosphere. They spread slowly in the low gravity, obscuring vision.

Sheer luck had Barricade turned so that Prowl broke his fall. Sheer luck and the fact that the first explosion had locked his booster pack into forward thrust. He heard a satisfying crack through his external audio before the top of his head jammed into Prowl’s faceplate.

Bumblebee’s attack on Blackout had torn the rotor-ties free. For which the Decepticon was grateful—as he hit atmosphere, he flared his rotors for lift, landing lightly on the surface, tearing off the thrusters with thinly disguised hatred. Starscream’s shrieking filled his audio. He tried subvoc to Barricade. Nothing. He’d seen the little yellow Autobot pest (redundancy) fall far to the delimiter side, spinning into shadow. Be a while before he even caught up enough to matter. And on solid ground, it would be a different story. First step—try to find Barricade. Starscream was easy enough to spot—somewhere in the middle of that rising cloud of grey-red dust. Just follow the noise.

Unfortunately, Ironhide found him first.

“You again.” Blackout said, as Ironhide’s first shot went wide. The low-g or possibly the fall had damaged Ironhide’s targeting system. He heard the Autobot curse. “Distance combat’s for cowards,” Blackout said, blandly, grabbing his tail rotor. He liked it better close in. No one could beat him in close quarters.

Ironhide took the bait, rising up from the berm he’d concealed himself behind and running straight at Blackout. “I won’t give you the chance to go the distance then!”

Blackout deflected the smaller bot’s punch with a backswing of his off-arm, and then brought his spinning tail rotor down, slicing through the Autobot’s pulse cannon. Sparks flew from metal. The Autobot flipped in the low-g, nailing Blackout squarely in the head with his sturdy, reinforced heel. Blackout fell to one side, his tail rotor spinning wide, slicing into his own armor, then careening off the ground to plant itself squarely in Ironhide’s leg. He howled in pain as he felt his knee joint crack, the rotor blade jammed itself through the tough wiring impaling him to the ground.

Barricade thrust his weight off of Prowl, digging his hands hard into the Autobot’s throat as he did, trying to use the jammed-on thruster to right himself. His optics blurred. No, that wasn’t it—a cloud of dust enveloped them. He tried comm. Starscream ran a litany of curses through his voc. Barricade pushed through the cloud, stinging as small pebbles hit his optics. “Starscream,” he called. A limb loomed out of the cloud, over his head, a giant claw slashing wildly. It knocked Barricade to his knees, scraping along his side. Shearing – thankfully – the thruster-pack off his back. “Starscream, dammit, it’s me. Stop swinging.” He staggered into the cloud, tripping over the jet’s torso. Starscream grabbed at him.

“I cannot see!” the jet’s voice sparked with panic. “Barricade: My optics. Are they damaged?” He jerked the smaller bot close to his face. “Tell me!”

“I will if you shut up and let me look,” Barricade said, twisting to free his arms from Starscream’s grasp. He sucked in a breath looking at the jet’s face. Black scorch marks covered him from shoulder to crown. The near eye was spider webbed with cracks. Gone. The right optic glowed only dimly. Marginally functional. “They’ll need to be replaced. And your right gun’s gone.”

“Again?!” The jet dropped Barricade to investigate the damage with his hands.

“Don’t worry,” Barricade said. “We’ll get you back to repair bay. It’s all fixable.”

“Easy for you to say,” snarled the jet. “Uninjured.”

“Really? You mean beyond the whack you just gave me? I still have thruster pack assembly force-welded to me.”

“Do you?” The jet’s hands leapt to investigate.

“Stop touching me,” Barricade muttered. “It’s weird.”

“I’m sorry, am I interrupting something intimate?” Prowl appeared through the cloud, his weapons leveled on the pair.

“Where is he?” Starscream hissed, trying to aim his good arm by sound alone. He almost knocked Barricade down.

The dust cloud caught up in a whirl. “Actually I think I’m interrupting,” Blackout dropped down, pointing his weapon at Prowl. “Thought I’d find you doing your usual nothing, Starscream.”

“Shut up,” Barricade said, hitting subvoc. “He’s blind.”

“Not deaf,” Starscream cut in, acidly. “And bad news. We have clustered together like a nice easy target. And reinforcements have arrived.”

Prime shot off after Bumblebee, who was plummeting towards the moon at an uncontrollable rate. Ratchet and Sideswipe manned the Ark. Their weapons trained on the armed Decepticons in front of them. They sat in stalemate, unable to do anything other than watch the small human shuttle burn through the thin atmosphere of the dark moon.

“Can’t we just blast em?” Rumble sneered on Soundwave’s comm.

“We are out numbered and out gunned Rumble. Have patience.”

“Easy for you to have patience, all the way up there,” Dead End whined. “They’ve got a whole ship. We’ve got….you.”

“And we also have…you.” Soundwave said, acidly.

“That’s his way of saying ‘less talkie, more fightie’,” Rumble added.

Sideswipe shifted uneasily on the bridge of the ark, glaring out of the viewer. “Ratchet, the Ark’s weapons would disintegrate them: we should fire while we have the chance.”

“Those aren’t our orders, Sides, stand down,” Ratchet replied calmly. He spotted Prime returning in the distance trailing a rather shook up young bot behind him. Dead End and Rumble backed away slowly in the distraction, not bringing attention to themselves as they drifted subtly towards the moon.

“Ratchet, we have injured on the surface. You will join myself and Bumblebee, Sideswipe, guard the ship, maintain a high orbit. We may need you.” Prime’s deep tone filled the bridge.

“Understood.” Sideswipe grumbled as Ratchet exited the ship. “Hey where’d the ‘cons go?!” He yelled. Prime spotted them already entering the moon’s atmosphere. He cursed softly.

“Autobots, we have to move fast, before the shuttle touches down on the surface. Let’s move!”

Weapons fire rained on them from above, Prowl ducked and rolled out to avoid being blown apart by a volley of plasma blasts that burst onto the rocky ground. Starscream shrieked loudly, in panic.

“Who’s firing?!” He whirled around frantically; Barricade tried to restrain him and failed abysmally as the jet crashed into a crouched Prowl. Blackout couldn’t help but snigger at the sight of Starscream flailing. Barricade growled and hauled the jet from the stunned Autobot.

“Could help.” Barricade glared at Blackout who continued to snigger.

“Why? This is the most fun I’ve had all day.”

“This your idea of fun?” Barricade glowered at him, as Starscream tried to tear his arm free, almost sending the smaller bot sailing off in the low-g.

Starscream cut in: “I can still hear you, Blackout.”

“Yeah, you can still talk unfortunately too.” Blackout grumbled as he caught Starscream’s other arm. Dead End burst through the thinning cloud, his weapon pointed at Prowl who was still sprawled on the floor.

“Look who decided to show up,” Blackout said, acidly.

“Who?” Starscream swung his face around. “Who is it? What’s going on?”

“Dead End,” Barricade explained. “Covering Prowl.”

“You mean that he actually knows how to use a weapon? And I can’t see it?!”

A cannon blast shot out of no where, striking Dead End’s shoulder knocking his aim, allowing Prowl to scramble out of range. The gun flew wide.

“Guess no on that last one, Starscream,” Blackout said.

Prowl was greeted by an injured Ironhide. One of his cannons was virtually shredded and his right leg was dragging behind him, leaking vital oil and coolant. His optics widened in surprise, “You’ve looked better.”

“Save it, Prowl. We have ‘cons to deal with.”

“Ironhide, you can’t fight like this, you’re badly damaged, and your leg is leaking energon at an alarming rate.”

Ironhide turned on Prowl fiercely, “Try and stop me.” He limped to the group of Decepticons his remaining weapon raised as another volley of weapons fire burst through the atmosphere, followed by Prime, Bumblebee and Ratchet.

Bumblebee slammed into Blackout, he was small and quick and swiftly irritated the larger mech. He managed to get a hold of Bee’s leg and slammed him into the ground. “Hoping you’d run into me again,” Blackout said, his fingers denting the yellow bot’s armor. The younger mech let out a squeal of pain as Blackout lifted him once more and launched him into the approaching Prime, who grunted in surprise as Bumblebee landed awkwardly at his feet. Growling, the small yellow ‘bot charged his weapons and shot after Blackout once more.

“Oh good. Dumb, too,” Blackout snatched his tail rotor, crouching into a ready stance.

Ratchet managed to duck out of the way and found himself face to face with Barricade. Not a natural fighter, Ratchet hesitated for a split second; Barricade took his chance, his fist made solid contact with Ratchet’s helm sending him stumbling off balance, Barricade launched himself at the medic only to find himself colliding with a much larger, stronger force. Ironhide slammed into him, sending them crashing to the ground, skidding some way in the dust they collided with the legs of Starscream who yelped in surprise. “Stop!” the jet shouted. “Get away from me! I have you on targeting!” His targeting subroutines sent him target-lock information. He had no way to see what it locked on. Barricade scrambled back. “It’s Ironhide. Get him!”

Prime launched himself at the jet, just in time to send the jet’s missile firing wide. He landed heavily on the jet, who flailed on the ground, kicking his long legs into Prime’s body. “Get off! Get off me!”

He clawed at Prime’s arm, finding purchase he dropped his weight sharply, flipping Prime over his head, he grunted as he landed heavily on the rocks. Dead End wasted no time, raising his weapon he fired into Prime’s torso at almost point blank range. “Got him!” he yelled excitedly. Prime cried out in pain as the plasma burned through his circuits, barely missing his spark chamber, exiting through his back shattering some of his back plates. Lifting his weapon to fire at the fallen leader’s head the small red bot took aim for another shot.

Find out what happens next in Fan Fiction

Well everyone Name_Violation here reminding you its that time again. I was looking over the fan fics when i found this months selection. Set in the post-Beast Wars Cybertron, its an interesting tale that will have you guessing at every turn. Definitely a worth while read. If you like what you see here, stop by Fan Fiction and check out the rest of the story, and some other great works. I give Beast Wars Beyond 3 faces of darkness out of 5.

Beast Wars Beyond by Armorock

Technorganic Cybertron, 112 A.V. (after Vehicons)

A light blue jet flew over the dark side of Cybertron. Past the billboards, the cheap advertisements, the propaganda of a supposed better world. Not all had excepted the ideas of being a technorganic, some didn't even want peace between the Maximals and Predacons. There could never be peace.

"I have sights on the fugitive" the jet sounded off through his communicator.

"Roger that," the reciever held the form of a green sportscar. "He in robot, beast, or vehicle mode?"

"Vehicle. He's a copter. I'll take him out of the skies, you beat him to the ground."

The jet easily caught up to the rogue copter, which took evasive maneuvers. A machine gun opened on the back of the fugitive and fired upon the jet. The jet unleashed a sonic screech which knocked out the copter's internal systems. It transformed and landed on the ground below the towering skyscrapers.

"Come and face me you cowards! Unicron's will be done!"

The green sportscar appeared around the corner of a building and transformed. The robot shot the gun from the fugitive's hand.

"Unlucky." The green robot held his gun pointed at the fugitive's head.

The jet landed, and transformed. He held a pair of scimitar blades to the fugitive's neck.

"I would like to negotiate your surrender," he told the fugitive.

"Like he has a choice," the green one laughed.

"I'll see you both in the Pit!"

That remark merited the fugitive a bullet in the foot. The jet knocked him out with the blunt of his blade and heaved him over his shoulder.

New Cybertropolis, Capital Building

The pair of bounty hunters dragged the fugitive up the steps of the capital building. A technorganic senator met with them.

"Must you drag your victims through our meetings all the time?"

"You're lucky you have people like us in the first place Senator Longhorn," the green bot spoke. "YOu're even luckier this fugitive ain't dead."

"Easy," spoke the jet. "We'll just take our pay and leave."

Longhorn wrote out a number on a datapad and passed it to them.

"You should really consider a reformatting. Your father would have wanted it for you. I know he left you a long time ago, but he really cared." Longhorn consolled the jet-former.

"No he didn't," the jet scowled. "He cared more for his real son Cheetor. That's why he's Supreme Commander, isn't it? He winds up being my dad's golden boy, so we forsake the past governing system and worship a technorganic cat. Yeah, my father really cared."

The jet and his partner began to leave. Longhorn continued to call after them.

"Why keep his name? Why call yourself Optimus Primal? You're destined for great things, for more than a life as a crummy bounty-hunter. The seeds of the future lie buried in the past Primal, it's destiny..."

They both were gone. Back to the meager livings that Cybertron had to offer in a time of peace.

"So...still mad at you dad?" the green car laughed.

"Shut up," he said.

"Let's go do something, take your mind off of it. I got an idea, why don't we explore the old battlefields?"

Primal looked at his friend, "You have something in mind already don't you?"

"Follow me," the bot transformed and rolled out. He dove into a sewer drain that the warriors of the Beast Machines were so familiar with. After miles of distance was covered he changed into robot mode and climbed to the surface, followed closely by Optimus Primal the Second. Before them was a large Technorganic hill.

"Great, a hill," Primal was not impressed.

"Watch this," the green one laughed. He shot the hill, which was hollow. "This was once the Grand Mal. You wanna see it?"

Primal didn't hesitate, perhaps against his better judgment. They both entered the den of iniquity, once the home of the greatest of evil, the very house of Megatron's spark.

"Creepy isn't it?"

"Only for a weak spark," Primal said. He wasn't truly confident, the very essence of this place could make even Cheetor's spine shake.

"Hey I think I see a light up ahead," the green one went deeper into the Mal. "I think it's a spark..."

A flash of blinding light emerged and the robotic cars began to shake. Primal watched in horror as his body trembled and corroded into gray ash. He ran away from his fallen friend, he transformed and he flew as fast as he could.

His friend, however, did not die. He arose and laughed, eyes glowing a fiery orange.

If you like that there's plenty more over in fan fiction. Go ahead take a look. You know you wanna.

Welcome back to the monthly Transtopia art challenge, sorry that the October challenge got canned due to the Transtopia HMW art contest but hey we're back!

This is how it works:

A subject for the challenge is chosen and contestants will then have 14 days to submit their entries. The judges will have 7 days after submission to discuss via PM the three that they think deserve to be ranked 1. 2. 3. These will then be announced and highlighted at the end of the month. The winner will then pick the challenge subject for the next round.

Judges will be re-picked each month to prevent corruption, but former judges can re-apply if they want to. Simply apply by sending Dead Metal a PM.

To submit your entry simply post it as an attachment or with "img tags" in the corresponding thread by clicking here by 16.11.09 (US 11.16.2009).

This month's subject is:

Transformers comic art re-imagined: Transformers vs G.I.Joe edition

Yes Storm Shadow ROC, the winner of last month's challenge liked the subject of re-imagining comic art so much he wanted to do it again just this time specifically with Transformers vs G.I.Joe comics in mind and this time it is supposed to be a 3 panel sequence rather than just one.

Just submit your entry in this thread with the following rules.

The rules for this round:

* Pick 3 or more comic panels from any Transformers vs G.I.Joe comic.
* The panels must feature at least one Transformers and one G.I.Joe character.
* When uploading your work supply us with the comic title, issue number and page number you found the panel in and of course the panel in question.
* Entries must be at least inked, color is not needed.
* Supply speech bubbles and or text boxes containing the same text the original panel has to create the effect of it being an actual part of a comic.
* No direct copying of the original art--draw the panel in your own style and if you want to from a different angle or perspective--just use the original version as an inspiration or a script.

Entries that break any of the above mentioned rules will be disqualified.

For any questions regarding this challenge just submit them by clicking here.

Stay tuned for updates!

I want to apologize but there will be no monthly Transtopia art challenge this month, as someone needs the help of the superhuman life-forms that call themselves artists. Yes's site game Heavy Metal War (HMW) is prepping for the conversion to 2.0!

Question: Now of what concern would that be for an artist?

Answer: The game needs a map!

So instead of Transtopia's monthly art challenge for October, I present you with the Transtopia "Give HMW a map of Cybertron" art contest!

Now, what HMW needs is a map of the planet of Cybertron but it has to be unique. There are actually many maps of Cybertron out there but they are all of a giant ball that never reveal what lies behind it and HMW's programmer needs a flat map.

Now the map should come with all the major locations of Cybertron like:

Thunderhead Pass

Crystal City etc., but also new cities and locations that you think would be cool.

Now the prize is that the winning map will be part of the game, will be used by all HMW players and full credit will be given to the map's artist.

As this is a bit of a difficult or more complex challenge you have till the 2nd of November to submit your map. All maps should be submitted in the appropriate thread by clicking here.

Updates to this event will be posted if needed.

And don't worry, the Transtopia monthly art challenge will be back for November so see you then!

This is the first update on the Transtopia HMW art contest so if you want to know what this is all about please click here Thank you.

Hi guys, Im Psychout, one of the staff for the Heavy Metal War game and most of you will have already come across Burn at some point in here, we'll be two of the judges for this unique competition.

As this contest is to make a map for the actual game hosted here on and advertised across the entire internet and fanbase, the HMW staff have gathered together some information that we hope may be helpful for you.

The game setting will in a pseudo-G1 era outside of standard canon, and naturally some existing location details will need to be jumbled for game-logistical reasons, so please don't think you have to stay within the existing canon - feel free to use your imagination.

We also have of locations/zones we are currently considering for use in the game you are welcome to use, but again this is open to your interpretation as you guys are the artists, please feel free to involve as many or as few of these places as you'd like and add any you wish:
Axiom Nexus
Ankmor & Gygax
Neutral Territories
Rust Sea
Thunderhead Pass
Tyrest province
Vos & Tarn

Please note this competition will also be opened to the players of HMW, so you might have some competition there. Feel free to drop into the Heavy Metal War: General Discussion forum if you have any questions, or contact any of the HMW staff via our PM's.

Thanks guys ...and good luck!!

Transtopia Newsletter September 2009
This month I’d like to draw your attention to a piece of art that took more work than anything submitted to Transtopia before: A live action film. This film required a staggering amount of work that incorporates most elements of the branches of Transtopia featured in our newsletter such as drawing designs, scratchbuilding and writing, and took up every weekend from March until mid-August just for the filming.
The idea of using Transformers as an allegory for Christianity has been around since…about the time I was asked to stand up in church and show off my G1 Optimus Prime while the minister talked about how Jesus can transform our lives. In this film a regular guy (John) has been chosen to take an ancient artefact called The Word to some people. The artefact bears a stylised crucifix and symbolises Jesus’s teachings. The people he must take the message to are the kids at the children’s Bible camp the film was created for. At the end of the film, when John says “Transform!” the lights go up and the kids see the prone form of a defeated Destronicus with John and Alpha Primus standing victorious. Alpha Primus is actually a 13 feet tall robot with a person inside to control it. I think you’ll agree that this was an impressive start to the camp for the children!
Part one and Part two are the film shown at the camp. Part three gives us a look at the hero robot in detail.
John Aoki (the star of the film) approached our fellow Seibertronian Joshua Vallse with the film’s concept. Most of the script was about camera directions with little dialogue as the actors were left to improvise on specific points.
Destronicus took about a week to build but Alpha Primus took longer due to budget and weight problems that necessitated design changes. The robots are made from sheet metal, PVC piping, actual car bumpers and fenders, steel struts and steel straps, bolts, nuts, screws, car interior casings, rim covers, and metal piping. Josh says it cost around $1000 to build the pair.
This film is a good bit of fun with the obligatory stacks of cardboard boxes that must be driven through, and very impressive for a small budget film. The music, taken from the live action movies, works very well to enhance the mood, although there are a few sloppy cuts in the dialogue during the debriefing scene. The car-chase sequence is very convincing and Destronicus looks awesome with the sun glinting off his face.

Josh shed sweat and blood over this film (something most kitbashers know about) and was up for 72 straight hours finishing the film so whatever your religious views please spare some time to watch it and appreciate the colossal effort put in - from the initial concept to building a pair of robots that stand around 13-feet tall, to filming and editing the finished thing. Also, take a look at Joshua Vallse’s thread as there is some very cool artwork in there.

And now the other artwork, just click the images to visit the artist's thread with the full-sized images and sometimes even more artwork!

Lurking in the shadows, it's Uncle Name_Violation, reminding everyone that there's fan fiction. Actually, we had a great turn-out this last month. I would like to give a special mention to hellkitty--her new work made it hard to choose a winner. I reccomend looking up her latest work in the fan fic department. Thanks to everyone else who posted something in my shadowy back room known as the fan fic department.

Any way, this month's selection is by Carriemus Prime. A great read if you have the time, we've picked a choice selection to give you a sample of her work, TF Movie fiction - The Secret Within. If you liked either movie, and have plenty of spare time to spend reading, I highly recommend this. I give it 4 Non-Biological Extraterrestrials out of 5. So until next month I'll be lurking, watching, waiting. Mwahahahahaha

TF Movie fiction - The Secret Within

By Carriemus Prime

Arcee raced down the valley, clouds of dust kicked up behind her. Reaching the cave, she slowed her pace. Keeping her distance, she passively scanned the opening to the cave. It was all clear.
“Arcee to Prime, the entrance is clear. I am going in for a closer look.”
“Arcee, wait for us to reach your position. Do you copy? Hold your position.”
Arcee transformed, her protoform glinted in the sun. She looked back up the valley wall. Ratchet and Prime would have to find another way down. Their size would cause a mini landslide if they attempted to scale the steeper slope. Arcee turned back to the cave, drawing her weapon, she headed forward cautiously. She could have the cave scoped out and the ship secured by the time the other two got there. If the Decepticons were here they would have guarded the cave. Taking one last look back at the ridge, she plunged into the darkness of the cave.

Longhaul smirked. “The small Wheel-bot has entered the cave. She won’t be too hard to deal with.”
Starscream pointed at Rumble. “See to it. Restrain her, injure her if you must. Do not kill her.”
“But Starscream, she is no match for...”
“Do as I command, you incompetent runt!” Starscream snarled. “I have plans for the foolish little Autobot.” He grinned, turning to watch the screen that displayed Arcee’s progress.
“Where are the others?”
“Almost in the valley, we have minutes.”
“Do we know who it is yet?”
Longhaul sighed. “Not yet. They’re not in range.” Longhaul whirled to face Starscream. “What if it’s Prime?”
“What if it is?” Sneered Starscream.
“We are no match!” Longhaul took a step toward him threateningly; he was not willing to die on this forsaken planet, least of all for Starscream.
“You won’t have to be Longhaul.” Starscream patronized. “There are four of us and only two of them.”
“I for one hope it is Prime, he deserves knocking down a peg or two.”
“Don’t be a fool Thundercracker!” Starscream snapped.
The computer beeped.
“They’re at the cave. Prime’s with them.” Longhaul glared at Starscream, who grinned menacingly.
“Excellent. You three will take the smaller one. Kill him if you have to. I will handle Prime, drive him into the cave if you can, I’ll do the rest.”
“As you command Starscream.” The Decepticons answered in unison.

Arcee could just about see in the darkness, rocks crumbled behind her, her weapon at the ready, she could see nothing. Cursing, she continued forward.
“Should have waited Arcee.” She scolded herself.
“Yes you should have.”
Swinging round in the direction of the voice, Arcee was too late, a force slammed into her chest plate sending her flying into the wall of the cave. Rumble aimed a sharp kick to her face. Crying out as her armour cracked, Arcee sprawled on the floor. Rumble was brutal, using the darkness as cover, he dodged Arcee’s weapon as she fired blindly.
“Show yourself coward!”
“By all means.” Rumble answered. Throwing all his weight into his strike, the specially designed pistons in his arms, punched into Arcee’s leg joint. The axle of her single wheel snapped like a twig. Laying another punch into the injured joint, her servos finally gave in. Arcee howled as the joint cracked in the wrong direction, coolant spilled onto the rocky ground. Using his advantage, Rumble kicked Arcee’s weapon from her grasp. He crouched over her as she tried to crawl from under his grasp. Pinning her to the ground, he leaned in closely, wrenching her head up to his, he hissed.
“I was ordered not to kill you, but I’m really going to enjoy this.” With that, he wrenched her head up as far as he could before slamming it into the rocks with all his might. Her face plate splintered against the stone. Struggling, she tried to wriggle free; managing to free her arm, she landed a hard blow across Rumble’s face, his red optic split with the force of her strike. Yelling in surprise, Rumble leapt for her weapon. Pointing it directly at her face, he grinned.
“I’m going to have to disobey.”
Arcee stared at the weapon, the shot rang out and she closed her eyes, her arm raised in an attempt to shield her face. Rock rained down on her from above. ‘I’m a goner.’ She thought.

Sensing something was wrong, she looked up. She was greeted by the massive, tattooed form of Starscream. He grabbed the weapon from Rumble. Casting it aside, he gripped Rumble by the throat, lifting him into the air until their eyes were level, he was a menacing sight.
“You will pay for this insolence Rumble.” He whispered, dropping him to the floor. Rumble groaned in fear and rage.
“Join the others, wait for my signal.” Starscream ordered, Rumble scrambled from under Starscream’s feet without hesitation and disappeared into the cave.
Arcee shrank back from the approaching Starscream. He towered over her.
“I have plans for you.” He lifted her battered, limp body off the floor.
“Get your filthy claws off me!”
“In due time Autobot. Now be quiet.” He raised a small device to her head that looked like a small needle.
“Hey!...” Arcee cried out as an electro-magnetic pulse shot through her body. She jolted violently and went limp. Starscream was pleased; it was all almost too easy.

Ratchet scanned the nearby area. “It looks like she went inside.” His voice was grim. Optimus frowned, irritated by Arcee’s insubordination.
“I’ll go in; you remain here guard the entrance.”
Ratchet answered with a nod, arming himself. Optimus headed forward, he had barely entered the cave a few feet when he was hit by a blast of rock and debris. He flew backward, landing awkwardly; he skidded across the dusty, harsh ground halting at Ratchet’s feet. Clambering to his feet he drew his weapons. In one sudden movement, three Decepticons exploded from the cave; one immediately transformed into a jet and soared into the air. Raining shots down from above, Thundercracker circled the outnumbered and surrounded Autobots.
“The great Optimus Prime! Shame you can’t avoid even the simplest of traps, sending in the weaker bots first. Some great leader you are!” He followed his outburst with a tirade of weapons fire. Ratchet stumbled as a missile blasted through his lower leg. Optimus caught his arm and using himself as a shield, dragged him to a rocky outcrop, where they managed to crouch to avoid the Decepticons barrage of missiles and plasma canons.
“I’m hit.” Ratchet grimaced. Optimus inspected his injury quickly. “It can be repaired. We have to find Arcee and the ship. I will deal with these three. Get in the cave, power up the ship. Take off if you can.”
“What about you?” Ratchet winced, as rock exploded above his head.
“If I don’t join you, come get me.” Ratchet allowed himself a grin as Optimus leapt over the rocks. Clutching the weapon on his back, Optimus took aim and shot Blast-off, landing a glancing blow onto his side that sent him spinning back toward the cave. Thundercracker swooped in from above, his chain guns unleashed in fury. Optimus ducked and rolled from his aim, spinning he managed to get a shot off, which blasted through Thundercracker’s rear wing. Leaking coolant he was forced to land and transform. Longhaul wasted no time; he bodily launched himself into Optimus. Optimus’s weapon skated along the ground as they fell heavily, a mass of limbs and metal. Landing several blows to Optimus’s head, Longhaul managed to gain the upper hand as Prime’s face plate cracked satisfyingly beneath his fists.
“I’ll keep Prime pinned.” He screamed, as he tried to rip Optimus’s face plate from his head. “Get the other one!” A punch landed squarely on his jaw, it splintered beneath the force of Prime’s blow. Longhaul cried out, Optimus managed to get a foothold onto his chest and heaved the large Decepticon over his head. Turning swiftly, he crouched, sizing the Decepticon up.
“Give it up Longhaul! Or do you think you can win with the rest of your face intact?!”
Longhaul spat in disgust, circling each other, he growled. “I don’t have to; I just have to hurt you, long enough!” He charged forward, Optimus was ready for him. He swung from his grasp, pivoting on his right foot, his super heated swords drawn, he plunged one of his blades into the back of Longhaul’s shoulder, catching him off balance. Longhaul screamed, the heated metal sending searing pain through his circuitry, he could feel his servos fusing. Without hesitation Optimus had come about and landed a solid punch to his face, sending him sprawling into the dirt. His left arm hung useless at his side, he fired his canon from his right wildly, but Optimus was too quick. He could not take him alone. Longhaul tried to keep his distance, firing as he did so, but Optimus had other plans in mind.
“Going so soon?” He growled as his fist upper cut into Longhaul’s jaw, shattering what was left of his facial armour and most of his jaw with it. Again Longhaul found himself in the dirt, only this time Optimus stood over him, his blade raised for the final blow. His optics widened in fear, he wasn’t ready to die here. Without warning, Optimus stumbled forward; taken by surprise he lost his balance. Rumble had launched himself onto the large Autobot’s back, and began pummeling Prime’s armour as hard as he could. Optimus growled in frustration, bodily throwing Rumble into a pile of rock. Longhaul had managed to get away and had now joined the others nearer to the cave. Optimus was surprised at how far away they had moved from the cave. ‘A distraction’ he seethed.
“Ratchet” He voiced his concern out loud as he ran back to the battle at the mouth of the cave, leaving Rumble dazed in the dust.

Having successfully lured Prime away from the cave, Longhaul rejoined the others who were brutally taking it in turns to attack the now severely injured Ratchet pummeling. Impressively the medic was holding his own, his buzz saw, sliced through Blast-off’s arm like butter as he reached in to grab his chest plate. Blast-off howled, clutching his partially severed hand. Ratchet kicked him in the chest, sending him hurtling into Thundercracker, who unleashed his chain guns on the Autobot. Taking numerous hits, he stumbled and fell once or twice, struggling to maintain his position.

Optimus could see Ratchet was in dire trouble, coolant poured from wounds on his chest plate and his arm sported a nasty gash, where his circuitry was visibly sparking and damaged. Optimus launched himself into the fray once more, his plasma canon blasting straight through Thundercracker’s arm, which fell to the ground with a sickening thud. The Decepticons, all turned to stare at the charging Autobot leader, knowing they couldn’t win without sustaining further injury, Blast-off transformed and took off, grabbing Longhaul with one claw and Thundercracker with the other, who held his detached limb with shock. Confused at the sudden retreat, Optimus skidded to a halt beside Ratchet.
“Ratchet can you move?” His voice was filled with concern and worry for his old friend. Ratchet grunted, as he hauled himself up, using Prime’s strong form for leverage.
“I’ve moved better.”
“If we can get to the ship, Teletraan 1 can start repairs. You’ll be moving like new in no time.”
“Promises, promises.” Ratchet snorted good humorously. “Why did they retreat? They could have finished us off.”
Optimus’s optics narrowed. “I don’t know. Longhaul was deliberately trying to distract me from the cave. They were acting under orders. Whoever it is, is probably still in the cave.” He glanced at Ratchet who looked a little worse for wear. “You should stay here; I will find Arcee and the ship and deal with who ever is left.”
Ratchet humorously shook his head stubbornly. “Saving all the fun for yourself huh?” He straightened, “We stick together. I’ll be alright.” Optimus knowing he could not persuade him otherwise, frowned, his voice was grim. “Very well, stay behind me.”

They reached the Ark with relative ease. Optimus was uncomfortable. Creeping forward slowly, his weapon at the ready, he scanned the area of the ship. It was empty. Motioning to Ratchet they headed over to the main computer.
“Teletraan 1, scan the area for Autobot Arcee.” Optimus commanded.
“Initiating scan.” Came the monotone reply. “Location verified. Arcee present on the Ark.”
“What?! Where on the Ark is she located?”
“Main bridge.”
Ratchet spotted him first; he tensed, his fingers itching to grab his weapon. Optimus whirled to face the approaching Starscream. His eyes fell to the unconscious form of Arcee clutched tightly in front of his chest. Coolant dripped from her battered body onto the steel floor.
“That’s right. We don’t want to do anything stupid now do we?” Starscream drawled.
“You monster!” Seethed Ratchet through a clenched jaw. Starscream merely shrugged.
“This wasn’t my doing. In fact, I saved her life. You should thank me.” His optics flashed dangerously. Optimus felt helpless; there was nothing he could do to help Arcee without endangering her life further.
“If you care so much Starscream, why not just let her go?”
“And lose my only advantage? HA! Do you take me for a fool Prime?”
“On most days I would say that is an understatement.”
“Don’t push me Autobot! I will tear her head from her body!”
“What and lose your only advantage? I don’t think so.”
Starscream faltered, only slightly. An evil grin formed across his face. “No you’re right Prime, I have much bigger plans for this little one. Megatron will be so pleased.”
“What do you want Starscream? Are you pandering to Megatron again? Tell me, have you ever had an original thought?”
“Silence!” Starscream was infuriated, he increased his grip on the small Autobot in his capture, feeling her frame weaken and snap in his fearsome grip, he calmed somewhat. Optimus’s patience was fading fast. This was a no win scenario and Starscream was getting nervous. Ratchet moved suddenly. Starscream responded by shooting chunks from his already damaged leg. Ratchet cried out as he slumped to the floor. Optimus tried to edge toward him in the distraction.
“Ah, ah!” Starscream raised a needle like device to Arcee’s head. “This delivers a localized EMP charge, you move again and I’ll fry her circuits. You have a feeling of what that’s like, don’t you Prime? All that Matrix knowledge burning into your brain.” Optimus tensed, unnerved by Starscream’s knowledge of the Matrix. He raised his hands.
“Just tell me what you want.” He growled.
“We want the Matrix and all that it entails. If we don’t get it from you, we’ll get it from another who is connected with it in more ways than even you are aware of. Another you know well.”
“Sam…” Optimus whispered. “He has nothing to do with this.”
“Oh but he does. You and he are inextricably linked by the Matrix; he gave his life for yours in a most sickening Autobot display of heroism. He now sees what you see from the Matrix. Or didn’t you know? ” He leered in satisfaction. “We have eyes everywhere Prime. Our time is coming. My time is coming. Megatron and his asteroid plans, pah! I will show him how to get real results.”
“What does he want with asteroids?” Ratchet questioned.
“To destroy the Earth of course.” Starscream spat. “Can you save them all Prime and still stop me?”
He edged closer to the exit of the ship, still holding Arcee. “Megatron has fallen; he just doesn’t know it yet. I am your biggest concern now. I will get the Matrix and its power, one way or the other.” He snarled. “Right now I’m going to leave you with your thoughts, if you try to follow me, well; I’ll let you find out. I’d hate to ruin the surprise.” He cast one last victorious look at the crestfallen Prime before transforming and flying expertly through the narrow cave.

“He’s taken Arcee!” Ratchet localized was furious and tried to stand, falling undignified to the metal grill, he cried out in frustration. Optimus went to his aid and helped him to the repair table.
“We can’t just let him escape.”
“What would you have me do Ratchet?” Optimus snapped.
“Take the ship after him, follow him. You know what Megatron will do to her!”
“Ratchet!” Optimus lowered his tone. “I am well aware of Megatron’s murderous nature; I sense that he has much worse planned for Arcee than simply death.” Ratchet fell silent, he was troubled, he knew it was a trap; from Starscream he could expect nothing less. He was baiting them, he knew too much about the Matrix and he’d provided Optimus with an impossible choice; save Sam, rescue Arcee or try to save the Earth from the imminent asteroid threat, as he’d promised. He sighed sadly, watching his leader work at the helm as the repair bot carried out work on his injuries. He did not envy Optimus’s choices; stop Starscream or stop Megatron, either way they lose. ‘That’s why he’s the leader.’ He thought sadly to himself. It was not a decision that he could ever make himself and was at a loss. He hated feeling helpless and he knew Optimus probably hated the situation just as he did and was most likely blaming himself for recent events. He sighed again. “Optimus, there was nothing you could have done. He would have killed her if you’d tried…” His voice failed him.

Optimus heard his friend but could not respond. Guilt and responsibility tore through his mind. He should have known better. They had trusted him. He had failed them. Now was not the time to dwell on what he’d done wrong. He programmed the ship for take off. It shook violently. Rocks crumbled around it as it broke free from its temporary cell. Fitting snugly through the cave that had been made specifically for that purpose, the ship soared into the air.
“Teletraan 1 find Arcee’s signal, track her and Starscream and lay in a course.” Optimus ordered, his decision made. He would not fail again.
“Affirmative.” The ship’s engines powered fully into life as the ship sailed smoothly into the sky, the computer started to whine loudly. Without warning sparks shot from the console, electrical surges shot through Optimus’s arms and then the console exploded in a shower of sparks and smoke. The ship went black, all power was cut.

“Optimus!” Ratchet cried out, Optimus was unable to answer. The electrical shock had over loaded his circuitry and he had been blown half way across the bridge in the ensuing darkness and now lay unconscious as they plummeted, free fall to the surface below.

If you like that there's plenty more over in fan fiction. Go ahead take a look. You know you wanna.

Welcome Seibertronians, Transtopians and readers: is proud to announce the revival of the art challenge--this time bigger and better than before!

This time it will be a monthly challenge taking place on the 1. or 2. of each month with the best 3 entries receiving a special signature for 1. 2. and 3. place.
But we also need a bit of help from those that cannot make art themselves; we need 3 judges every round.

To submit your entry simply post it as an attachment or with "img tags" in the corresponding thread by clicking here by 16.09.09 (US 09.16.2009).

This month's subject is:

Transformers comic art re-imagined

For this round you just pick a panel from any Transformers comic, be it old or new and render it in your own way. Comic panels can be found either by searching the internet or simply by using your own comics.

The rules for this round:

* Pick one or a maximum of 3 comic panels from any Transformers comic.
* The panel must feature at least one Transformer.

For any questions post in this thread.

All entries will be featured at the end of the month with the winners being highlighted.

We now have all 3 judges, please try next month.

We don’t get much (or any, to my knowledge) artwork submitted that is purely photo manipulation so I thought I’d bring tljhtr1979’s contribution to your attention this month.

In ‘Battle For The Arch’ we see Megatron beckoning Optimus Prime as Prime prepares himself to leap to the challenge. In the background Bumblebee seems to be preparing to comb the wreckage of a nearby damaged building for survivors, unaware that Starscream is lurking atop a building behind him.

tljhtr1979 has used ‘09 concept Bumblebee, ’07 Movie Megatron with ROTF Prime and Starscream. Pictures of these are superimposed onto a photograph of a street scene which has had rubble and damage added.

It’s a shame that tljhtr1979 is not also a talented model painter. This picture would look better if the toys used had been painted to add that extra touch of realism, but even so, this is a very effective piece of work.

Burn was kind enough to talk to resident Transtopia Artist Psychomud this month for our Artist interview. Here’s what he had to share:

Joining us this month from Transtopia is none other than Psychomud. Residing in South Korea, Psychomud is a talented artist who took out 2nd place in this year's BotCon art contest for his rendition of Apeface, and was also crazy enough to put his hand up to be interviewed. So enthusiastic he virtually interviewed himself for me!

About me in a nutshell:
1. I live and work in South Korea for the Department of Defense.
2. I won 2nd place at Botcon for "Decepticon Apeface".
3. At Chicago Comic-con (Wizard World) 2008 - i was a featured artist at the Sketch Magazine artist alley table.
4. Did a pin-up for Skystorm Studios "Art of HellGirl" comic.
5. I have designed and illustrated logos for various organizations/sporting venues/motorcycle clubs here in South Korea - including recently designing/illustrating for the Songtan-Si Dart Association (dart league). I work for them to design the special award dart pins.
6. I DREAM to one day work for IDW - preferably but not limited to drawing transformers.
7. Right now, I am working on a "mosaic-like" 1-shot full comic written by Mike Priest and Shaun Flaughterty (which I am sure I misspelled his last name).
8. I has survived 2 wars (once as military, once as a contractor - as I am now) and if things keep going like they are - might be in a 3rd one here on the Korean penninsula. ;(
9. Although I started working hard at obtaining an illustration career late in life (36 now) - I have been drawing since 3. Not to mention, I know illustration pays next to nothing, and with my current job I will be able to retire in Thailand (at 45-ish) to live/work - hopefully long distance as an illustrator for IDW.
10. I love - and play HMW while I draw.

But I wasn't about to let it end there, I had to explore deeper, find out what makes Psychomud tick, or at least ask a few more questions so I look semi-professional!

Plenty more to this interview, click here to get the full scoop on Psychomud!

Alright folks, Name_Violation here, reminding you its that time again. So this month I searched high and low (not really) to find this months fanfic selection. I would like to thank everybody who submitted something this last month, I actually had something to do this time.
This months tale is set in the Movie universe, and is about humans, Autobots, and... well i should Just let everyone find out for themselves. A good read and precursor of things to come. I rate this pick 3.5 stunticon names out of 5.

Dead End
by hellkitty

Pars Prima
Bourzey Castle, Southern Syria

Ratchet ducked, instinctively, at the buzz-thump of the EMP burst. Yellow dust shook down from the large stone walls of the gateway he crouched in. Something deep in his chassis gave a sickening dropping feeling as he heard the distinctive clattering crash one of his fellow Autobots falling over. He cursed, softly.

“Ironhide,” Flareup said, her voice sick. “He’d gone ahead.”

“As usual,” Lennox added.

Prime gave a worried scowl. He wasn’t angry at Ironhide, Ratchet knew; but he’d been fighting these challenges to his authority for cycles now. It didn’t make them any easier that they were familiar. “We’ll need to disarm the EMP before we can retrieve him,” he said, calmly, changing the mission objectives instantaneously, without any outward sign of the inner distress he was feeling.

“On it,” MacCallum, one of the NEST soldiers, said, shucking his electronic equipment and grabbing a tool kit and running into the darkness of the Syrian night. The stars above gave a cold and lightless light , just enough for the humans to be able to pick out the contours of the old castle which the Decepticons had picked for their first base on Earth. Ratchet and the other bots had no choice but to wait. One EMP casualty was enough, especially on a mission with one approach route up a steep grade of shifting gravel and very little chance of a Chinook pickup. Chromia and Flareup rolled up to Prime.

“We can go on with the humans,” Chromia said.

Prime shook his head.

“We’re faster than Ironhide. We can dodge an EMP. You know that: that’s why you brought us along.”

“You might be able to dodge one, but they might have daisy chained them.” Lennox, cutting in. He was strangely protective of the cycle bots.

“So what do we do?” Flareup rolled back and forth on her wheel, anxious, peering into the night into which MacCallum had run.
