Hi - Here is a very quick update from about
a few new arrivals and an exciting new pre-order!

TAKARA RE-ISSUE STAR CONVOY: Takara announced just hours ago that the next re-issue will be Star Convoy with mini Hot Rod. The Japanese vintage version of this item is very hard to find, the vintage department only came across a few last year and they sold for around $400. This new item will be arriving in September and we have it priced very competitively at $92.99. (The Japanese retail price is 8000 yen - about $75 to $80 before expensive shipping fees for this bulky item) This figure will not be part of the 'TF Collection' series with Dreamwave art box, but will instead be a standalone re-issue similar to how Predaking was released. Pre-Orders are now available here for $92.99:

STIKFAS: The latest Stikfas figures have just arrived and each is now in stock for $8.99 each. New arrivals include Beta Female Nurse, Beta Female Windsurfer, Glowing Omega Phantom, and Red Chinese Warrior Monk. We've also restocked the previously sold out and popular Beta Female Fairy, Green Omega Military, Black & Blue Ninja Set, Teal & Blue Hockey Players, 14" Stikfa, Superhero and Super villian.

STAR WARS - DARTH VADER STATUE: The 15" Gentle Giant Darth Vader has just arrived and we have them in stock for $189.99. We'll be carrying all the future Gentle Giant releases as well so be sure to pre-order the upcoming statues and busts you'd like.

PALISADES - SPECIAL EDITION PREDATOR BUST: Another nice Predator release from Palisades - this mini-bust is priced below MSRP at $62.99 and it features Predator ripping the skull & spine out of an unlucky victim.

Thanks for your interest in and be sure to check out Star Convoy.

Ultimate Optimus and Megatron merchandise!

TRANSFORMERS are bigger than ever and, under license from Hasbro Properties Group, will add Generation One Optimus Prime and Megatron to their range of life-size stars.

Due to launch before Christmas, these cardboard cutouts will stand at over six feet high and will feature exclusive artwork by Simon Williams, and coloured by Jason Cardy.

Helen Simm from comments on the range; “When considering the first range to produce as a license-holder, we chose TRANSFORMERS as it has a massively broad appeal: fans and collectors, as well as 80s nostalgists – not to mention the new generations discovering the massively popular toy range!”

An official launch of the products is due soon, but were keen to announce they will be unveiling how the cutouts will look at this weekend’s Auto Assembly (4th & 5th June ’05), where you’ll also be able to register your interest.

“The range will be a Limited Edition” says Helen. “If this run goes as well as we anticipate we will be looking to extend the range. Dinobots, anybody?” is the UK’s only specialists in life-size cardboard cutouts and you can find out more about them at You can email them for more information, or to have your say, at

The news room of has been in contact with Metrodome, the UK based company that will release both the 1986 Transformers: The Movie as well as the Japanese HeadMasters Transformers series in Europe. We are able to give you an update on both these titles. The following are quotes from our contact with Metrodome.

"'Transformers The Movie - Reconstructed' will be released on 29th August 2005. We're going back to the original picture negative and doing a brand new telecine. It will be 16:9 Widesceen Anamorphic, but will have curtains as the viewable image is 1.33:1 and 1.78:1 and it changes scene by scene. We wanted to give the fans the maximum possible Transformer image. Everything the laminators drew will be visible and this will be the first time anyone, anywhere would have seen the whole movie in its original form. It should be quite something".

"There is no convenient way to refer to this non-standard format of film transfer. However the process we applied can be described thus:

35mm film has a native aspect ratio of 1.33:1.

This particular 35mm negative had been shot by several different animators using various size gates, therefore the framing is inconsistent.

In order to respect the full film frame and place it within the wide screen video format of 16:9, the telecine was set-up to create an anamorphic transfer which results in a side curtained 1.33 image within a 1.78 ratio.

Due to the inconsistent framing within the negative the image size changes from shot to shot.

The resulting master preserves the entire field of potential viewable negative."

"'Transformers Takara Headmasters' will be released in a 4 disc box set on 26th September. This will have brand new English subtitles and the original English dub so you can watch it in whatever way you want."

Metrodome has also informed us that both Takara Headmasters and Transformers: The Movie - Reconstructed will be Region 0 releases. This means there are NO region codes on them and you will be able to play them on any DVD-player! Update - May 17th, 2005

"Official looking" Knock-Off G1 Cyclonus at BigBadToyStore removed from their store

It seems the G1 knock-off problem is getting worse and worse by the day. I recently contacted Joel at regarding concerns about a "case fresh" shipment of G1 Cyclnous figures that they had recently posted for sale on their website. After closer inspection, did the right thing (as they always do) by removing the figure from their store after they compared the figure to an original and discovered it's another addition to the Chinese knock offs that seem to keep popping up. When it comes to a "fresh case of original G1 Transformers," just remember: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Hi Ryan - I opened one up and compared it to an authentic G1 version we had here and can confirm they are knockoffs - damn good ones however, it was tough to tell, but there were a few giveaways: (feel free to post this)

1. The bottom of the right wing says 1986 Hasbro - in a font thats not quite right (authentic one says: Hasbro 1986 Takara Co. Ltd. 1986 Japan

2. The nose cone is very soft rubber that bends too easily and was actually kind of sticky (and smells kind of bad - like rubber and old fish)

3. The injection mold areas are much rougher than they should be with pockets or raised stressed areas instead of smooth cuts - overall the plastic is a bit lesser in quality.

4. Wings have a different feel to them when detaching and come off much easier than the real one

The box itself other than having the chinese sticker seemed to be very close - the cardboard feels just a bit thinner than it should and a bit rougher paper grade - so not quite as smooth & glossy as it should be. No clue why they would go to all this trouble and then put the sticker on it for the giveaway

Thanks so much for the heads up - I removed them from the site and will refund the few people who did buy - my supplier was duped by these as well so he'll be receiving them back from us.

Subject: Cyclonus figure - knock off?

Hey Joel,

I don’t think the G1 Cyclonus you guys recently posted on your site is an original figure ( There are a wave of Chinese Transformers in US packaging that are hitting the market right now. It’s kind of scary because no one seems to know what is and isn’t an official product anymore. The best theory that I’ve heard about these figures are that they kept being made in China long after they were no longer supposed to be produced. So far, other figures that have "mysteriously" shown up like Cyclonus are Beachcomber, Seaspray, Backstreet and Squawktalk / Beastbox (Cassettes). There are small differences in paint jobs, misspellings on the packaging (look closely at the words on the back), sticker applications (extra or missing) and copyright stampings on the figures from the originals. They are all marked with the same sticker in the upper right hand corner of the packaging. I’m pretty sure these aren’t original Cyclonus figures – not to mention that Cyclonus was never packaged just by himself – I believe he came with other seeker jets.

I have a gallery of an original boxed version of Cyclonus on my site if you want to compare: CLICK HERE.

Apparently, Cybertron toys have arrived in New Zealand!

From hookX5:

A fellow kiwi transformers fan has reported seeing Vector Prime, Crumple Zone, and a number of basics, being set up for sale at a local toy store.

I'm not sure where this puts us as far as western releases world wide go, but yeah - it's something I feel should be told.

You can view hookX5's original post about this here at the Energon Pub message board.

From Starscream NZ:

Transformers: Cybertron is now available in NZ!

Comcast of my boards saw them, and there are pictures to prove it. Amazing really....Energon only got it's final releases around a month ago.

You can view a thread about this here on the website.

Chris McFeely has posted the following information on the upcoming UK Transformers DVDs from Metrodome on the forums.

Just a little update on the status of these projects - their release dates have been switched around. The movie will now be coming out in August, while Headmasters has been pushed back to September.

Additionally (and I know some of you have asked this), the subtitles for HM are being done by a professional company called SDI. They've worked on Star Trek and Stargate, so we can rest easy knowing they're accustomed to dealing with wacky series-specific terminology.

See his post here.

Also noted on the thread is the following quote:

Metrodome wrote:

As we stand at the moment, The Movie (in Widescreen and Dolby 5.1) will be released 8th August £15.99 RRP and Takara Headmasters in a 4 disc set on 26th September. RRP £29.99.
