The Alamogordo Daily News has reported on a press conference given on the morning of May 19th by the Holloman Air Force Base, regarding the Paramount motion picture of the Transformers, which will start shooting today. It was not until May 19th that the Holloman Air Force Base could officially confirm their involvement with the film.

The article gives an account of the statements made by Lt. Col. David Moore, 49th Fighter Wing commander as her addressed the press.

"As you know, we have been working in collaboration with Dreamworks studios over thel ast month or two preparing to support them in filming a major Hollywood motion picture out here at Holloman ... we see this as a perfect opportunity to showcase all of the great capabilities ... our airmen in action, our base".

1st Lt. Christian Hodge, is the person who made the initial contact between the base and the movie possible.

"I first found out about the moving surfing around online. In July of last year I first read about it, thinking, 'Hey, jets that change into robots ... Air Force jets.' So I called over to the studio (Dreamworks), got a high ranking executive on the phone ... about two or three months ago we got a call from a location scout."

"These guys are working so hard," he said."It's a huge endeavor. This is the best choice because of White Sands ...Holloman itself has been so engaging, arms wide open to try to help them."

Army Lt. Col. Paul Sinor has been linked with public relations for the base's Department of Defense. Sinor had the following to say on why the choice was made for this base.

"The reason this was selected is "it's a realistic portrayal of what the military does". That's one of the first criteria of military support, it has to be a realistic portrayal of the military. So this film, even though its somewhat "science fiction," what the military does in this film is a realistic portrayal of actual Air Force and Army personnel. We've worked with the director, Michael Bay, on a film before -- "Pearl Harbor " -- so we understand how (Bay and his team) operates, he understands how the military operates. We have a very good relationship."

"There is no cost to the taxpayer for these films. If you see them flying this airplane on the film, whatever that airplane costs per hour, the production pays it. It does not cost the American taxpayer a dime. The military you see in the film working as extras, they're on leave on that day and they're paid by the production. So it's not that this is our regular work day, but instead of working for national defense we're playing soldiers and airmen in a movie."

IDW Presents The TRANSFORMERS Return to CYBERTRON!

San Diego, CA (May 18, 2006)—The TRANSFOMERS make landfall on CYBERTRON this July with The TRANSFORMERS: Stormbringer. The whirlwind creative team that unleashed BEAST WARS: The Gathering, Simon Furman and Don Figueroa return the home world of the “ROBOTS IN DISGUISE” with gale force.

This is series that TRANSFORMERS fans have been clamoring for—cover-to-cover, no-holds-barred, giant robot action on an epic scale! So far, in The TRANSFORMERS: Infiltration, there have been tantalizing hints about the state of play elsewhere in the TRANSFOMERS universe. Now it is time to return to where it all began, CYBERTRON itself. A dark, dark chapter of the planet’s history is unlocked—a chapter that will impact the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS with the might of an unrelenting tempests.

“No UNICRON, no UNICRON. That was my mantra. Stormbringer had to be fresh, exciting and, most importantly, feature a ‘big bad’ that wasn’t the TRANSFORMERS franchise’s ever-reliable, planet devouring nemesis,” declares Stormbringer scribe Simon Furman. “But then, change and innovation have been the watchwords of the IDW TRANSFORMERS line, the intent always to create something fresh and accessible. That’s as true for Stormbringer as it is for Infiltration and the upcoming Escalation, and so… expect the unexpected, take nothing for granted. We’re back on CYBERTRON, sure, but boy have things changed… and not for the better. Expect big action, lots of giant robots and, yes, planet-shaking events. But no UNICRON.”

The TRANSFORMERS: Stormbringer #1, the first issue of an all-new TRANSFORMERS 4-issue miniseries, premieres in July 2006 with a 32-page full-color comic book with a suggested cover price of $2.99.

The following press release has been sent to the Seibertron News Crew:

    IDW SELLS OUT!
Swallow Book Two Among Many Sold-Out IDW Publishing Titles

San Diego, CA (April 17, 2006)¡XWhat do a reborn title, Clive Barker's latest, some transforming beasts, an art bonanza from Ash Wood and friends, and a couple vampire tales have in common? They're all among the latest IDW Publishing titles to completely sell out through Diamond. In addition to the sell-outs IDW recently experienced with SUPERMARKET #'s 1 & 2, the company announced today that the following books are also sold out through Diamond:

  • 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DEAD SPACE # 1 & 2

  • ANGEL: OLD FRIENDS # 2 & 3

  • CLIVE BARKER'S THE GREAT & SECRET SHOW #1

  • FALLEN ANGEL # 1, 2, & 3

  • SWALLOW BOOK TWO

  • TRANSFORMERS: BEAST WARS #2

  • UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION

  • ¡§It's great to see quality books met with such positive performance,¡¨ said IDW's Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. ¡§We print significantly more copies than the initial orders we receive from Diamond. When we set a print run for a book, we try to print enough copies so that retailers will be able to re-order the books through the run of the series. These sell-outs caught us by a surprise, and signal a nice upturn for the industry in general. I also hope these numerous sell-outs encourage retailers to similarly recognize the demand for IDW's books and order accordingly. As much as I love to see a title sell out, I like even more for anyone who wants an IDW comic to be able to easily find it.¡¨

SWALLOW BOOK TWO will receive a second printing, along with a new cover from artist Ashley Wood. Retailers can order the second printing with item code # FEB06 806. The second print is due to arrive in stores on May 17, the same day the second printings of SUPERMARKET arrive.

IDW, publisher of the new Transformers comics has won another award. They have won a Gem Award for the third straight year. The Gem Awards are given out by Diamond Comics Distributors. IDW won the award for Comic Book Publisher of the Year Under 5% Market Share.

"San Diego, CA (April 12, 2006)—Earlier this month, Diamond Comics Distributors announced the winners of its retailer-selected, 16th annual Diamond Gem Awards, and once again, IDW Publishing finished at the top.

For the third straight year, IDW collected the Gem Award for Comic Book Publisher of the Year Under 5% Market Share.

The Gem Awards are Diamond's annual recognition of outstanding vendors in the comics industry. Vendors are nominated by a panel of Diamond product specialists on the basis of their overall impact on the industry, while comics and related merchandise are chosen on the merits of their quality, creativity and sales performance. The winners each year are chosen by retailers.

Gem Award nominees are selected by a panel of Diamond product specialists on the basis of their overall impact on the industry, while comics and other related merchandise were chosen on the merits of their quality, creativity and sales performance in 2005. Retailers were able to cast their votes with ballots contained with the February Previews Retailer Order Form, Previews on Windows, Previews for DOS and the Ordering page of Diamond Online's Retailer Services Area.

In 2005, IDW successfully launched a line of comics based on Joss Whedon’s Angel, returned the Transformers to the marketplace, and extended its reinvigoration of horror comics with the throwback magazine, Doomed, among many other accomplishments. Three of IDW’s 2005 releases, Doomed, Smoke, and Heartbreakers Meet Boilerplate, recently received nominations for Eisner Awards, the industry’s top honor.

“We are very proud to receive this award for the third year in a row,” said IDW’s President, Robbie Robbins. “In 2005, we had a very diverse publishing line, from licensed properties like CSI, 24, and Shaun of the Dead, creator-owned books like Easy Way, Night Mary, and our 30 Days of Night series, and art books like Swallow, and Sencilla Fanta. We have tried to service a wide range of fans and to get those fans into the comic book stores. Adding titles like The Transformers, Supermarket, and Ben Templesmith’s Wormwood Gentleman Corpse to that slate has me very optimistic about 2006 and beyond, too. Thanks once again to Diamond and comic retailers for this honor.”

A complete list of the 2005 Gem Award winners is available on the inside back cover of the April issue of Diamond Dialogue, and a PDF of all the winners is available here:
