Making its first San Diego Comic-Con appearance in 2011 is Hasbro’s new KRE-O brand, bringing action and adventure to the construction toy category. At launch and on display in the Hasbro booth, the KRE-O brand offers twelve building sets featuring popular TRANSFORMERS characters. Comic-Con attendees will want to keep an eye out for roaming OPTIMUS PRIME and BUMBLEBEE KREON costume characters, KRE-O statues and special edition OPTIMUS PRIME KREON figures featuring “MATRIX OF LEADERSHIP” deco not available in stores (while supplies last).

Former Marvel editor joins growing publishing company’s expanding team


San Diego, CA (July 12, 2011)—IDW Publishing, a leader in graphic novel and book publishing, announced today that former Marvel comics editor and creator John Barber has joined the company as a senior editor. With over ten years in and around comics, Mr. Barber joins IDW Publishing to head the company’s Hasbro licensed titles, as well as other projects. A New York Times best-seller for his TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON movie adaptation, Mr. Barber will also continue to write comics for IDW, including the upcoming TRANSFORMERS #125 with James Roberts and another title to be announced at Comic-Con later this month.

“John is a great addition to IDW’s editorial team,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Office/Editor-in-Chief. “I’ve been impressed not only by the books he helmed at Marvel, but also by the projects he’s worked on since then, such as Kick-Ass and Turf. Add to that the fact that he was already part of our developing TRANSFORMERS writing team and you have a pretty perfect fit on all counts.”

Prior to joining IDW, Mr. Barber served as an editor at Marvel for six years, working on titles such as the Ultimate line of comics, Stephen King’s Dark Tower, the Eisner-nominated “Old Man Logan,” and the Marvel Comics Presents series. In addition to writing TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON movie-related comics for IDW, Mr. Barber has also authored numerous stores in the Marvel Universe.

“This is a great opportunity. I was perfectly content living the freelance life, but when the possibility of joining the IDW editorial team came up, I jumped at the chance,” said Barber. “There's nothing I like more than creating exciting comic books, and that's what this job is all about. Throw in getting to work with Chris and all the members of this amazing editorial staff, plus all the incredibly talented creative teams and all the amazing properties IDW publishes--and you've got a happy John Barber.”

IDW Publishing also announced today the promotion of Tom Waltz to the company’s first senior staff writer position, in addition to his duties as editor, and the expansion of the company’s book department with long-time IDW employee Alonzo Simon becoming an assistant editor.

As editor/senior staff writer, Mr. Waltz will continue his role as editor on a wide variety of titles, including GHOSTBUSTERS, CODE WORD: GERONIMO and many of IDW’s video game-related series. Mr. Waltz will also author or co-author an increasing number of series for IDW, such as the upcoming TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ongoing series and other still-to-be announced projects.

As assistant editor in IDW’s book department, Mr. Simon will have a hand in many of the graphic novels and hardcover collections published by the company. Since taking over his new duties, he has already worked on upcoming releases such as INFESTATION, VOLUME 1, ARCHIE’S JOKE BOOK and GODZILLA: KINGDOM OF MONSTERS, VOLUME 1.

Slooh, in collaboration with Google, to Broadcast Live Feed of Total Lunar Eclipse

NEW YORK, NY, June 15, 2011 — In an ongoing mission to share a live view of the universe, Slooh, the online Space Camera, in collaboration with Google will broadcast a live feed of today’s total lunar eclipse from Dubai, South Africa and Cyprus starting at 2:00 PM EDT/11:00 AM PDT.

Stargazers all over the world are invited to simultaneously watch the total lunar eclipse unfold in what is expected to be the largest audience ever assembled for a celestial event. The lunar eclipse will be broadcast in its entirety over a four-hour period, with the total eclipse of the moon to occur at 3:13pm EDT. The live feed can be accessed at Slooh’s Mission Interface on the web and also as a featured video stream on Google’s channel on YouTube.

Today’s coverage of the lunar eclipse builds on the announcement in October 2010 that used Slooh’s imagery in the sky layer of Google Earth. The digital images of celestial objects are captured by Slooh members with Slooh’s patented instant imaging technology and are automatically uploaded to Sky in Google Earth to share with the world. On December 20, 2010 Google and Slooh collaborated for the first time to broadcast a total lunar eclipse through Sky in Google Earth.

“Broadcasting the lunar eclipse online in collaboration with Google creates the power to touch all of humanity at once,” said Michael Paolucci, Founder of Slooh. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate our commonality, and appreciate a moment of global synchronicity. Nationally renowned astronomer Bob Berman will host the four-hour spectacle with live audio narration starting at 2:00 PM EDT/11:00 AM PDT. He will be joined by several guests throughout the show, including Duncan Copp, a presenter for BBC and National Geographic and director-producer of many astronomy films and TV shows including “In the Shadow of the Moon”, an award-wining film about the Apollo astronauts. Santa Monica, CA - June 14, 2011 - The colossal battle between the AUTOBOTS™ and DECEPTICONS™ is underway as Activision Publishing, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) new video game Transformers: Dark of the Moon ships to retail stores nationwide today. Created by acclaimed developer High Moon Studios and based on Hasbro's legendary TRANSFORMERS property, the game lets fans fight through epic battles as they unravel MEGATRON'S sinister plan and is set in the world of director Michael Bay's upcoming movie from Paramount Pictures that will be released in theaters on June 29th.

Featuring a new gameplay mechanic called Stealth Force, the Transformers: Dark of the Moon game lets fans instantly convert to a third, hybrid state that combines the weapons and firepower of Robot mode with the agility and maneuverability of Vehicle mode. Set in unique environments around the world such as the Jungles of Central America, Siberian military facilities, urban cityscapes and more, the game lets players assume the roles of a diverse roster of favorite TRANSFORMERS characters through a heart-pounding campaign to save mankind. Additionally, fans can play the game with or against their friends around the world through intense, online multiplayer game modes as their favorite iconic characters with the ability to personalize their characters' look with numerous appearance, weapons and skills customization options.

The Transformers: Dark of the Moon video game is rated "T" (Teen - for Violence) by the ESRB and is available on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

Additionally, Activision is releasing three separate games on the Nintendo platforms developed by Behaviour Interactive. Available on the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system and Wii™ system, Transformers: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition follows a prologue storyline and harnesses the power of Stealth Force to focus gameplay on intense vehicular combat, allowing fans to obliterate enemies at blazing speeds with advanced weapons, defense systems and targeting capabilities as they slalom between cars and dodge fire in a highly maneuverable vehicle form.

For the Nintendo DS™, fans can choose their side with two distinct titles, Transformers: Dark of the Moon AUTOBOTS and Transformers: Dark of the Moon DECEPTICONS.

All Nintendo platform games are rated "E10+" (Everyone 10 and older - for Fantasy Violence) by the ESRB.
