We received word from OTFCC's PR Liason Malin Huffman this evening. For those of you who're disappointed about not being able to pick up "The Wreckers" issue 4 at the convention, keep this in mind:

One more note- while this is correct, Wreckers #4 will not be available at OTFCC... Wreckers #2 and #3, and Universe #2 and #3 WILL. For those of you counting, that's FOUR new comic issues from 3H Productions available next weekend. And we're not talking your normal "22 page + ads" comics. These things are huge!

So, yes, we'd hoped to have 5 issues out by the con. Due to resource scheduling we got 4, which pretty much get us out of the backlog. I think that's pretty good progress.

Best regards,
Malin

Thanks Malin!

A conversation with Akitaka Mika [concerning his work on The Transformers]
(continued)

Q: How did you get started in the anime industry?

AM: Before I knew it, I was just in. My first job was working at Sunrise. Square came to Sunrise asking to design a game called CRUISE CHASER BLASTY for the NEC PC.
A lot of fans may not know this, and I am not credited for it, but I did a lot of designs for TRANSFORMER toys. I was a toy designer at Takara and Bandai.

Q: Really? Which ones did you design?

AM: I did a lot of designs that were never implemented. One of the ones I did that got used was Predaking.

Q: I remember that one. That was the one with the bull, lion, mountain lion, rhino, and eagle that turned into one big robot, right?

AM: Exactly. You know how there's a lion head on his chest? Well, in Japan at the same time as Predaking came out, there was a robot toy called Dartanius with a lion head on its chest that was manufactured by Bandai. When Predaking came out, Bandai said, "You stole our idea" and Takara got sued. So Bandai was looking for the designer and after they found me, they took me into their offices and offered me a job. I worked at Bandai for about a year.
I got the job at Bandai because the sales of Predaking, especially in America, were very high. As a result of these phenomenal sales, Bandai was looking for the designer. While at Bandai, I worked on some other robot toys, including Machine Robo.
As for Transformers, Predaking was the only one I did that made it to an actual product. When the movie was being worked on and even after, I kept submitting designs, but none were ever acted upon. I came up with this one idea that was a skyscraper that transformed into a battle platform and then into a robot. They actually made a prototype of that one and it was this large (he gestures to the size of the table we were sitting at). So not surprisingly, they didn't make it because of cost concerns.
In the toy industry, you draw about a hundred designs, and out of those only one or two ever get picked to be used. It's a very rough business. So when comparing that kind of work to working on YUNA, where I can decide everything, working on my own is fun and easy.

Don Murphy has posted a new thread on his message boards giving some insight into the new live-action movie:

Many things to answer here on the fly.

There's a shitload of rumors that you guys take as facts out there. There are NO voice actors yet. There may be soon. I will personally make sure that our director considers Frank and the gang. I think celebrity voices for a film like this is moronic.

Someone out there is telling you that there aill no be toys for this movie from Hasbro? Dream on. That's the very reason they WANT a film from Steven Spielberg.

NOTHING is decided. IN MY OPINION knowing how Hollywood works---

1- I do not see mass shifting happening.

2- I do not see a giant robot turning into a cassette player.

3- Hasbro will not have a toy that turns into a pistol.

4- I just saw the robots in SKY CAPTAIN at Comic-Con- we want ours to be the opposite of those. Personalities!

We are NOT doing anything to do with Beasts and Dinos and shit.

I think Soundwave is the burger with cheese and sauce. I think his "tapes" are badass.

Maybe you're right- maybe he never changes.

Dunno.

Keep talking- you can tell we are really listening.

The next few weeks will have us, ala X MEN, decide on 7 core members of each team. Desanto will be there to make sure we stay true.

Your input is NOW.
