Looks like it's the handpainted model though.

Any non-licensed vehicle mode is fair game.
Just to add to this, also any movie verse toy that didn;t appear in the movie "might" be fair game & can be used as a botcon convention/club toy.
Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks :3

Seriously.....it's garbage. I can't ever suspend disbelief enough to ever think that this is or ever could be Overlord/Gigatron.
Like others have said. Looks like i'll have to hope for a third party to make a proper Gigatron.
Lord knows Hasbro can't figure it out. Lazy bastards.

There is no "tron" anywhere, it's just Giga (tank), Mega (jet), merge into Overlord. I like it and I don't like it. This is as bad as making Galvatron from Evac/Blades. For once make a real toy with limited numbers. I have a feeling the door prize will be Mega "not tron" maybe?.
Wow they released pics this early which means the Botcon staff has been lurking amid speculation.

I hear you on that. We should be getting word on our new classics 2012 Stunticons while we're at Botcon too!
Now that I see the face up close I don't like it. It has that traditional Botcon eyes look I'm not really fond of. The tank mode however it perfect.

Yeah I see what you mean with the eyes. They could have gave him a little more neck coz his head just looks like he's all head and shoulders.

Fun Fact:
Takara "Super Collection Figure" Overlord = Hasbro "Heros Of Cybertron" Gigatron.
They're the same dude.

I think it was Botcon Scourge that had it bad too. Made me really back away from it. Nightbeat too I think.

But the new pics ... at first I wasn't impressed with the head. Then I saw the head with the rest of the body and got less impressed, then I saw the alt mode.
Yeah ... so glad I stopped caring about BotCon figures the first year FunPub took over.

I second this...
I for the most part don't care for thus don't buy any botcon convention/club toys.
To me their just glorified repaints of molds I already have.
The only two botcon toys I thought looked decent thus bought was Cyclonus using the beastmachines ultra sized jetstorm toy mold. Deathauras using the Rid megatron 6 changer toy mold.
BTW,I just got off work,I saw the bot pics of botcon 2011 Gigatron earlier today. I didn't realize they released tank mode pics today. I guess i'll check out the tank mode pics of gigatron in a few minutes.
Lastly, why I love the HFTD Bludgeon toy mold. and I love the masterforce overlord character & 1988 toy. I think using the hftd bludgeon mold for 1988 overlord/gigatron was a awful choice. IMHO,Animated blitzwing would have been the better mold to use for overlord/gigatron. as animated blitzwing has a jet & tank mode. I also think energon voyager jetfire & voyager cliffjumper would have made decent overlord toys. all that needed to be done to energon cliffjumper is swap out the top alt mode pieces for tank turrent pieces.

It's Neo-G1, cause bludgeon never appeared in the "main" movie toyline... He came out in the NEST subline. He never made it to the movie either... so i guess he's an exception.

HOWEVER! I'm surprised it hasn't been thought of yet; has anyone considered that a plane homaging Overlord's plane half might be one of the attendee-only figures?
Oh if that is, im completely not buying the boxset. I cannot attend the con and im not going for the Iacon pack just to realise they ripped me off Overlord's other half.

Not really fair to blame Hasbro for this, they had nothing to do with it. Hasbro made the mold for Bludgeon which worked like a charm. This is all pretty much Fun Pub.

FUNCTION: SELF CONTAINED NOMADIC ASSAULT MACHINE
“I stand my ground. I have conquered EVERY challenge. I hunger for conflict without end”.
A legendary force of inorganic nature, he emerges as the new and deadly Ambassador Of Destruction, a Decepticon ANTI-HERO. Enemies tremble at mere whispers of his existence. This Transector has Autobots guessing as he downgrades himself to standard Earth sized vehicles. Weary of battles unchallenged and searching for new ways to prove himself in combat, Overlord sets Mega & Giga free, foregoing his Godmaster multiple functions activated by them while in engine mode. No location is too remote; no terrain is too tough for this megalithic power-monger as he transforms into BOTH a Gigatank to steamroll a path ahead, and a Megajet for C-SAC duty (Carrier, Spy, & Air Combat). Carries an infra-red heat seeking laser canon, ready for all-out war!

PCC with hand picked drones, homage color guide, and remolding in the right places... this given the stipulation of no Cybertron Leader Megs (which is a shame).

Their robot modes share some of the same design elements as well. Let's take it from the top:
- paint the tips of the two triangular wing tips that rise behind his shoulders purple to homage the OL's purple shoulder cones
- put the newly molded head on
- light grey arms with black hands
- make his two landing gear chest flaps grey just like OL's
- main torso dark blue
- each side of the abdomen dark grey to homage his pop out weapons
- waist black
- top section of his thighs dark grey
- thigh area just above the knee dark blue
- lower legs teal
- feet purple
Other design similarities: OL carries the forward section of his jet alt mode on his arm, Silverbolt carries the forward section of his jet mode on his back. The little mini-wings on Silverbolt's shoulders resemble OL's open chest flaps. Even the guns somewhat similar, just make Silverbolt's purple with a black missile.
Plus he's an Ultra Class figure that turns into a tall robot, and they've used Ultra Class figures in the boxset before. If I had any photshop skills I would put this all together.

I think everyone was asking the question of a previous TF toy released from under 5 years ago.
Honestly if we've got to dig all the way back to 1987 to get the duocons molds for a botcon 2012 overlord. Then we might as well just dig back to 1988 & get the original masterforce 1988 overlord toy mold, recolor it in slightly more cartoon accurate colors & release it as a botcon 2012 TF toy.
RANDOM SIDE NOTE: I'm hoping this botcon 2012 overlord/gigatron toy generates enough interest to convince hasbro/takara to create a masterpiece or leader sized new mold overlord/gigatron toy. i'm also hoping this botcon 2012 gigatron toy generates enough interest to convince a few 3rd party toy companies to create a proper G-1 styled overlord leader sized toy, with two voyager sized vechicles,a jet & tank merging to form a leader sized robot mode.

Yeah but I still think it would be a neat CHEAP way to have him. I think the Bludgeon mold is still okay though.

Triple changer, menacing robot mode...
Might not have been spot on accurate, the tank mode being replaced with his car mode, but would have been better then this.

R.i.D Megatron was roughly the same size and they remolded him a head for Deathsaurus. I suppose the rest of the figures were all scout size though for the set...

I feel like the TFC does this a lot, aim too high and end up producing a figure that doesn't live up to it's namesake. The samurai motif just doesn't blend with this character. The head sculpt looks decent at best too.
Posted by C - 310 on December 28th, 2011 @ 2:10am CST
I really feels like they dump down overlord ALOT in order to 'fit' it to this mode. He wasn't even a "melee" character originally. Also the head looks like a bootlegger from China molded it.
C'mon hasbro, for 3 or 4 times it's retail price, you can't make a new mold for once for exclusive to be worth it?

Never actually owned the figure so I suppose my estimations must be pretty far off. Still, that's the only current mold I could see that would do Overlord / Gigatron any justice.

Remold the figure slightly so that you can remove the robot from the plane (which works, the robot-mode is literately screwed onto the plane) and then give him a few tank treads and attach the gun as a turret for a kinda tank mode.

Because he isn't really a Movieverse chracter, the toy was originally designed to be Classics Bludgeon for Universe.
Also Que's head looks more like a skull than Bludgeon's.
