This happens to be in my backyard, and I'm a full-time attendee every year. This SO makes up for that pathetic "Menasor" they're also trying to pawn off on us.
I do really sympathize with the folks who were looking forward to this, though. It's unfortunate that Hasbro seems to love putting figures that are highly-sought-after by the fans out of said fans' reach.
My opinion... at least they MADE it. If Hasbro didn't make any more 'exclusives', then they wouldn't be able to make all of the cool repaints and resculpts and such that people want. They couldn't justify releasing a new Alternator at this time, and probably couldn't do it in the foreseeable future. It just wouldn't sell enough, this close to the movie. BUT, as an exclusive, they can get closer to their target market (the hardcore collectors that've been fans for years), and still offer the product at a decent price.

What's the deal with the Rodimus theme this year? First, a repaint of 6 inch Titanium Rodimus as Menasaur (or however you spell it), and now this! Well, here goes another bunch of $$$, just like I had to spend for Alt. Nemesis Prime last year. I'm out to own every Alternator release, so this is a must have for me. I don't see why Hasbro only makes this available to SDCC. Why not a bunch of cons in a bunch of states, like WizKids does with their game exclusives (i.e. Heroclix)?

Anyone interested pm and we'll work something out when we know how much it will be and I can get shipping info for you.
Hopefully there isnt a 1 per person limit or something.

Nah.
Including postage, I got Nem Prime (their 'exclusive' last year) for £25-27ish. Thats hardly much more than the regular price of alts in this country.

Yeah ive seen plenty on ebay for around the same price range. Shame i have no real interest in a Nemesis prime toy though. I woudlnt mind getting a reguler alt prime on the cheap for a re-spray idea i have.

Well said... This, like the classics seekers, had to be an exclusive in order to exist at all. I get why people are annoyed... but Hasbro isn't trying to screw anyone over here. They're doing their best to get stuff out through any avenue they can. The haters are really starting to get on my nerves.

why is it that those with the money are okay with paying more for things?
if they made them available, at least on the web, then they woould sell; but saying that making them Alts and seekers and such exclusives is good enough... well that's just either foolishness or a heavy wallet talking.

very good point and I agree with you. I can afford to pay for these figures...BUT I REFUSE TO PAY crazy amounts for these figures.
and like some poster said before(forgive me for not quoting you)....why not work out a deal with all the stateside 'cons like wizkids do? I mean there are like a solid 10 major 'cons they can push these exclusives at and not just SDCC and their own botcon(though i do agree botcon should have a major exclusive only to botcon)
Let's count where they could sell them and please add to them if you notice anything I am missing
Wizard World(philadelphia, los angeles, texas, and chicago)
SDCC
Botcon
that is 6 right there and I know there are at least 4 more than they can coordinate something with. Please Hasbro just think of the MASSES who buy transformers and not just the 5 to 10 percent that can actually attend your major conventions.

The whole point of exclusives is to make something that lots of people want so that they are more likely to come to your show.
What would be the point of making the exclusive a Wheelie re-issue or another re-paint of A sideswipe.
Exclusives are always going to be something lots of us want.
Get over it.
I, being an Alt. completist, will most likely be paying premium prices, thru clenched teeth i assure you, to get my Alt Hot Rod, but there isn't anyone making me buy it (besides my own sickness) and ther isn't anyone making the rest of you buy it.
If you think that they're ridiculosly priced and that they shouldn't be exclusives, fine. Make a statment and don't buy it.
Just makes it that much easier for me to get mine.

Dude, if my son whose 8 got to the store, and found all or most fo the movie figures out or the one he wanted gone, he'd be all over anything thats left, and this movie looks to be what starwars was Merchandise wise back in the early 80s, then expect anything with Transformers written on it, with a transformable bot to sell like hot cakes on a stick.. hmmm never heard of that.... so....... why did I say it??? Hot cakes on a Stick... OMFG, I'm getting old!!!!! arrrghhhhh!!!!
Anyways............an ALternators Rodimus would completely sell out, you know how many collectors and comic shop horders there are out there, that alone could warrant a mass release..why does everyone hide behind the it wouldn't sell banner... its not true, atleast not in this toys case...but hey I'm just saying that this movie will rule, the toys will be scarce, trust me, its new and the feeding frenzy over stuff like this will be bananas...!!!!
Episode 1 all over again.. sigh... online order fingers at the ready, no stinky sweaty collectors or screaming kids for this Transfan, i got them at home on the weekends..sit back order online wait and display... ahhhhh I'll feel better once the Leader Class arives online at sale prices...

At least some one else thinks the Movie figures are gonna sell out. Once the movie comes out evrey one is gonna want TF crap. If not for them selves then to sell on ebay. Grab what you can now because after the movie is out youll be hopeing that hasbro make a hell of alot of product. It'll be just like Star Wars episode 1. You were able to find the toys for a week when the first shipment came out then nothing for a while.

So I'm waiting this one out.
Of course, no one near me (comic stores, etc.) will even get one of these. Guess it's the ol' 'bay for me (eBay, that is)!

I am glad that Nemesis Prime became available to everyone who wanted him, but I feel bad for the people who were fooled that it was a convention exclusive and paid an inflated price.
If they intend to do the same thing with Hotrod, then you should be able to get him pretty easily.

Stormrider wrote:The premise of the SDCC Exclusive is a joke. The idea of a convention exclusive should be to make something limited in quantity so that it appreciates in value. SDCC did the opposite with Nemesis Prime and watered down the value by flooding the market.

Exactly what I thought. I read the word 'exclusive' on Nemesis Prime and thought it would be a stretch trying to purchase it. Little did I know that yes, the market was flooded and hence made the term exlcusive defunct. Interesting that the one Alternator I have not been able to get is Swerve, and he wasn't even an exclusive! You wouldn't believe so given the price of him on eBay
In my own hopes and desire, I wish they would release the Botcon Exclusives in retail in similar fashion, but I know they will not, as they understand the point to exclusivity.
