Toys R Us will be carrying a line of exclusives called the Evolution 2-Pack, which features an AoE figure (either Deluxe Class or Voyager Class) paired with an older generation figure, redecoed to match their original G1 counterparts.
As of now, the only images available are those of the Grimlock set. This set features AoE Voyager Class Grimlock paired with Energon Grimlock, redecoed in G1 colors!
We will update with the product images as soon as they become available.
robotmel provided the names of the upcoming sets for the upcoming 2-Packs. Keep these names handy for when you go hunting on May 17th!
robotmel wrote:Whilst browsing at my local Toys R Us, I asked an assistant to check their system for an item to see if stock was available.
Browsing down their lists of Transformers figures I spotted listings for upcoming items from what I believe to be part of the immenent Age of Extinction line with a twist.
Transformers Grimlock - Then and Now
Transformers Dinobot Slug - Then and Now
Transformers Strafe - Then and Now
Transformers Bumblebee - Then and Now
The Toys R Us assistant confirmed there are prices against each one but wasn't allowed to quote the prices as they where subject to changes, but confirmed the Grimlock Then and Now was considerably more than the other three.
It should be noted that the official packaging images state Evolution 2-Pack. "Then and Now" may just be an internal TRU naming system.
Primeultimus uncovered the previously unmentioned Optimus set.

What's wrong with G1/Energon one? I'd rather have that one over the original G1 toy.

i just think it looks terrible and cheap, like it was the "kiddie" version or something.

okay so it seems your little brain couldn't grasp what i meant by "kiddie" (even the quote marks were apparently not enough) .....it looks cheap and uncomplicated, like its made for little kids. the same way the rescue bots toys look or stuff like the bot shot toys. and sitting next to the movie toy, it makes it look even worse. and that toy doesn't look too good to begin with either.

So, this toy is apparently "uncomplicated" when the G1 toy is less complicated than it, and you say the G1 toy is worlds better and I'm the one with the small brain?
Whatever you say guy. It's your dream.

I am unbelievably happy that this set is coming out, and hope like crazy the Swoop set will have Energon Swoop.
You can all let them shelfwarm. That means I'll definately get a set.

Curious about the Slag; not too happy about the figures that come to mind like the Animated one or that Japanese Beast Wars one.
I know it's "Slug" these days, spare me the pointless correction post.
*EDIT: Yes JelZe, spread the hate. Ensure that I get these figures. Yes.

The Energon line had some excellent figures, but this was not one of them. A poorly proportioned floppy mess further hampered by a poorly executed combiner gimmick that this set will be lacking due to the non-inclusion of the original release's partner figure, rendering an already poor quality toy's main gimmick nerfed.
Bouncy X was probably just talking about the figure's questionable proportion/aesthetics, but even without that it's by all accounters one of the crappier grimlock toys that's been released, and definitely not an exciting one to see paired with movie grimlock when there are vastly superior options (See- FoC Grimlock).

It's a lousy figure with a poor design. It was engineered without Takara's help, just like the Star Wars and Marvel Crossovers Transformers toys. It's simply not that well made a figure, and this has nothing to do with simplicity or kid-friendliness, since the whole Energon line itself was simple and kid-friendly but still mostly good overall.Manterax Prime wrote:Bouncy X wrote:thats neat, too bad the G1 version looks like complete and utter crap. why not include the actual G1 toy or at least the Cybertron game version?
