If you’re looking for ways to help us promote this year’s convention then now you can as we’re proud to announce the release of this year’s poster for Auto Assembly 2012! The artwork has been produced for us by our in-house artist Ed Pirrie and you can download it below. Please feel free to print it off and distribute it to any sci-fi stores or comic shops near where you live, post it on any websites or forums that you visit, share it on facebook, Twitter or anywhere else that you think people may be interested!

We’ll also be releasing this shortly as a double-sided flyer with additional information about the convention on the rear and if you want copies of this to distribute, please get in touch with us at contact@autoassembly.org.uk with your name, address, where you’ll be able to get them distributed and – most importantly – how many flyers you want and we’ll get them sent out as soon as we get them printed. We’re hoping to get these distributed to stores all over the UK and sent out by all of our dealers who will be attending the convention this year, as well as handed out at as many events as possible between now and August so if you can help, please let us know.

Anyway, feel free to download the file below. Just click on the picture below for the full size image.

Auto Assembly is proud to announce that we are once again going to be joined by fan favourite, artist and writer Nick Roche. Nick will be joining us at the convention for the fourth successive year and will be taking part in panels, signing autographs and sketching for fans all weekend and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about his work.

Nick will be joining his Wreckers co-conspirator James Roberts for a special IDW Panel that we will be holding on the Sunday but we are sure that there will be a few other events that he will be involved with during the weekend...

Hot on the heels of announcing the return of Nick Roche to Auto Assembly, we are proud to announce another comic guest for Auto Assembly 2012...

We will be joined by comic artist Jeff Anderson who will be known to Transformers fans for his extensive work on the Marvel UK comics. Fans have asked us for several years to bring Jeff to Auto Assembly and he will be making his debut at the convention this year.

In addition to Transformers, he has also worked on Death’s Head, Knights of Pendragon, Mys-tech Wars, the graphic novels The Shadow's Edge and The Cutting Edge and an adaptation of The Bible. Eight Weeks Until Auto Assembly 2012

It's hard to believe that we are now just eight weeks away from Auto Assembly 2012, Europe's Largest Transformers Convention. It feels as if Auto Assembly 2011 has barely been behind us, but with the convention nearly upon us we wanted to give everyone a reminder that the convention is fast approaching and that tickets are selling faster than ever this year and that we are on target for a total sell out!

We're now entering our "rush period" for ticket sales - the time of the year where we traditionally sell over 50% of our tickets for Auto Assembly - so if you haven't already booked up, now is the time so you don't miss out. If you still haven't made up your mind, check out the website for all of the details about this year's event or watch the first part of our recap video on our youtube channel here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nign7-lENd0

and you can see our current trailer video here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWy4HPlZT80

With seventeen guests, our biggest ever line-up of dealers, a massive new four-star venue, great free gifts for attendees including a magazine, lithograph and comic, what more could you ask for?

Auto Assembly 2012 is located in Birmingham in the centre of the UK so it's easy to get to from all parts of the country. If you are travelling from anywhere in Europe, there are affordable flights from most of Europe to Birmingham International Airport (which is on the same site as the convention hotel) and for those of you who are travelling from further afield, flights to the UK are a lot more affordable than you might think...

Registration for the full weekend (which includes access to EVERY part of the convention including all our workshops, panels and free autographs with no additional charges) is just £45 for adults and hotel accommodation is just £50 a night for a single room or £60 for a twin or double making the convention affordable for everyone!

We'll be bringing you a lot more updates over the next few weeks as the convention draws closer including great news about our displays, dealers, the cosplay competition and we'll be announcing the return of our Non-Attendee Package for those of you who can't make it. We may even be bringing you some news about Auto Assembly 2013...

Auto Assembly 2012 Kitbash Workshop Details Released

We have had a kitbash workshop at Auto Assembly for the last few years but as we are moving the convention to a new home for 2012, we wanted to do something special this year and bring all of you a brand new, improved workshop as part of Europe's Largest Transformers Convention so we've teamed up with Calloway Customs to do something brand new which we think you'll all love...

This “Blue Peter” style presentation will last approximately one hour, and will focus on how to change a stock Hasbro toy into a different character, using all the tools and tricks of the trade available. Discussing paint removal, disassembly and cleaning, spray / paint preparation and application, wheel removal, head replacement, decal application and much more.

Presented by Nick Calloway, the designer behind the popular Calloway Customs Shapeway store, and Botcon award winner Sid Beckett. This workshop will be backed up by a full “how to...” bullet-point refresher guide on the Auto Assembly website and a video of the presentation so you can follow along at home.

“We wanted to do something similar to the custom workshops other conventions offer,” said Nick Calloway, “without the practical difficulties of sixty people fighting over two soldering irons, against the clock. In this workshop you will learn all the skills you need so you can attempt a true custom in the comfort of your own home at your own pace.”

The limited edition convention exclusive upgrade kits themselves will be available to purchase at the convention and will be available to pre-order shortly from Calloway Custom Designs exclusively for convention attendees!

We will be able to get the head from Calloway's shapeway store. I've been waiting over at TFW for the official head reveal. What I would love to get the decals, but I figure as long as I get that new head, I should be able to paint something close to Marlboro Wheeljack.

Im not sure why anyone believes you need anything other than a sticker set to make a Malboro Wheeljack ? Reprolabels doesnt want to touch it because they actually think minors buy their products. (seriously) Can somebody just mass produce the damn set already ???

Hello, my name is Flashwave. I'm a minor. And I'm pretty sure Repro would have to pay to use the Marlboro logo of they printed it mass market. I can't print off and sell decals of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus Train for pennies either, and Hasbro can't sell an obvious Volkswagon Beetle without asking VW.

print them yourself then. Any good Hobby Shop will carry wet-transfer decal paper.
  • Buy the paper you need that matches your printer and project, (Lasser or inkjet, white backed decal paper (encouraged for lighter color ink on dark backgfrounds or clear decal film (good for dark colors on pre-painted LIGHT backgrounds)
  • a solution called "Solvaset" by Walthers (my preference),
  • and a rattle can or airbrush bottle if your airbrushing your TFs or "Glosscoat" and "Dullcoat.
  • measure the space your decalling in MS Word and build your decal logo out of Text boxes and the shape tools.
  • Copy and trim the Marlboro logo from the Internet,
  • line 'em up on your paper,
  • print it,
  • let the ink dry,
  • take the decal paper outside and seal it in Glosscoat, being liberal with the GLosscoat but not so drowning that the Glossocat itself washes off the ink)
  • Allow to dry
  • Seal the TF parts that are being Decalled in Glosscoat
  • Allow to dry.
  • take the decal paper outside and seal it in Glosscoat (I'm serious about this. Wet transfer decals involve water. If the water is allowed to find the printer ink, it will smear and or wash off. You want this puppy bullet proof)
  • Allow to dry
  • Cut out decal, getting as close to the image as you can.
  • place in clean warm water for 20-30 seconds. You want the Decal to be alble to slide off the paper.
  • Remove from water, be sure to keep your own fingers wetter than the TF
  • Place Decal image off-set from where you want it and lightly slide the decal partially onto the TF. (If you have clumsy fingers, a Q-tip is encouraged. I prefer using my fingers though.)
  • Pull Decal paper gently out from under the Decal, keeping the end of the decal on the TF held down. Don't push too hard though, or the decal will stick to your thumb and not the TF
  • Dab paper towl around the decal to absorb water.
  • When Decal is dry, apply Solvaset until the decal film disappears. (You're melting it into the Glosscoat beneath) If air bubbles form, apply more Solvaset and carefully poke with an X-acto)
  • Allow to dry
  • Seal the decal to the TF by spraying with Dullocat
  • Allow to dry

They also print Decepticon and Autobot symbols, as well as KOs of Hasbro, Bandai etc. copyrighted material, so I don't think they care about using Marlboro trademarks.

A while ago I asked them if they would make a Marlboro Wheeljack set, using "Kup's Cygars" instead of Marlboro, the reply I got pretty much stated that they don't want to make anything along the lines of Marlboro Wheeljack.

Also Rated X, the reason why a sticker set isn't enough to make a Marlboro Wheeljack is this:

The original Marlboro Wheeljack had a different head and I think a different spoiler.

We've got the pricing worked out and I'm just sorting out the shipping cost for the Non-Attendee Package as a whole as it will ship in two parts (because of some of the content so it doesn't get damaged) and I have several different shipping rates to work out at the moment.

In the past we had problems with our Non-Attendee Packages with delays in getting them put together / shipped so we're making sure that all the content will be ready to go within 24 hours of the convention ending (although they will probably ship a few days later as I'll need a few days to recover!) but we also lost money on international packs because we undercharged for shipping and we don't want that to happen again.

In the next few hours we'll have all the details of how to order Marlboor and the Non-Attendee Packs online as I'm in the process of doing this and writing the secure PayPal code for the website and making sure that it all works properly.

The code has caused me a few headaches - spent most of the day writing, and re-writing it(!) to get it working 100% and up to our normal code standards that we've used for our booking system for the last 8 years. There's a slight layout issue that I'm not 100% happy with but given a choice of accepting that or delaying things by a day or so until I found out what was causing it (which wasn't showing up in the code at all), I'll be releasing everything shortly as it's fully functional with no errors in the system and as it's using PayPal it's secure.

Just waiting on one or two other things but it should all be ready in the next 30 - 60 minutes people! :)

Auto Assembly 2012 Unveils Non-Attendee Package

With fans from all over the world preparing to gather in Birmingham, England for Auto Assembly 2012 in August, there are many of you out there who have said to us that you would have loved to have attended the convention this year but for one reason or another are unable to make it but still want to be involved. Since last week's announcement of our convention exclusive add-on kit for Generations Wheeljack as part of our Kitbash Workshop being run by Calloway Customs, even more of you want to be a part of the convention and have asked if we were considering doing a Non-Attendee Package this year... well your calls have been answered!

We are proud to bring all of you details of the Auto Assembly 2012 Non-Attendee Package! We have been working on details of this for the last couple of months to try to offer you all a slice of Auto Assembly if you weren't able to make it to the event. We wanted to make sure that we could offer you value for money but we wanted to get all the details sorted before we made any annnoucements!

Before we continue, we know that some of you may have ordered Non-Attendee Packages from us in the past and may have experienced problems with shipping. We have looked into the difficulties that we have encountered and we have put systems into place to prevent these from happening again. The last few years we greatly underestimated shipping costs for packs being sent outside of the UK which meant that we struggled after the convention to cover costs until we sold tickets for the following year. Also, we included original sketches from our artist guests, but these didn't arrive with us until several months after the convention causing considerable delays.

This year, we are not including sketches so Packs will be ready to ship immediately after the convention. We have also weighed an approximate pack before setting the prices so we can make realistic charges for all of the packs that we can offer to all of you meaning that they can be shipped as soon as they are ready.

Packs will be £40 for the UK, £45 for EU residents and £50 for the rest of the world but that is inclusive of all shipping costs (airmail for outside of the UK) and this comprises of TWO mailings and your first package will be sent before the convention!
So what do you receive for that? The Pack will contain all of the items from our Auto Assembly 2012 Goodie Bag but with a few added twists, plus some extra items:-

* Auto Assembly 2012 A2 litho print by Marvel UK artist Jeff Anderson
* Auto Assembly 2012 Exclusive Comic
* The Cybertronian Times Issue 13 Convention Magazine SIGNED by our guests
* A PERSONALISED Auto Assembly 2012 Pass and Lanyard
* A set of Auto Assembly 2012 Convention Exclusive Postcards
* Jagex Transformers Universe Art Card
* Entry into the Auto Assembly 2012 Prize Draw (exclusive to Weekend Ticket Holders and Non-Attendees with a first prize worth almost £300)
* A set of the Auto Assembly 2011 Convention Exclusive Postcards
* A copy of the Auto Assembly theme song "Transform" CD single (this is only available in the Non-Attendee Pack)
* The chance to purchase the convention exclusive Marlboor add-on kit

Plus other additional surprise items if these can be arranged. The 2011 postcards will not be given away to any other Auto Assembly 2012 attendees.

Yes, we mentioned the CONVENTION EXCLUSIVE KITBASH WORKSHOP MARLBOOR ADD-ON KIT!! There are four different versions of this kit that Calloway Customs are producing for Auto Assembly 2012. One of them is exclusive to convention attendees (which includes a Generations Wheeljack toy), but the other three can be ordered at the same time as your Non-Attendee Pack with prices from just £15 so if you can't make it to the convention, you can still play a part in the workshop as the ENTIRE workshop will be filmed and uploaded to our Youtube Channel for FREE viewing after the convention!

You can buy the Non-Attendee Pack on our website NOW at http://www.autoassembly.org.uk and you can order the limited edition Kitbash sets at the same time. If you are already attending the convention, you will be sent details of how to get these separately.

Auto Assembly 2012 / Calloways Customs and Kapow Toys Open Pre-Orders For Exclusive Kitbash Add-On Pack

As we have already announced, we have an exciting new Kitbash Workshop this year at Auto Assembly 2012 being brought to you in collaboration with Calloways Customs. We have already told you about the workshop itself that is taking place at Europe's largest Transformers convention, but now we can tell you about the Convention Exclusive Add-On and how YOU can get it...

For the first time at Auto Assembly, a new and exciting add-on kit to convert a readily available Hasbro figure into a new character for your “Classics” Transformers collection.

From the fan favourite Shapeways store that bought you the essential “Punch / Counterpunch” add-on kit, and the UK toy store that serves all your Transformers needs, comes an all new add-on kit for 2012.

Tying in to the free Auto Assembly Kitbash Seminar - where you can learn how to convert your toys into all new characters – comes a new kit that includes add-ons to help you make a perfect rendition of cult favourite; “Red” Wheeljack.*

Sold at three different levels in very limited stock, all of which include the brand new and unique exclusive ultra-frosted detail Shapeways head which is HAND PAINTED.

Gold Pack – Base figure (Generations Wheeljack – never released in the UK), exclusive head, uncut sticker set. Strictly limited to 30 sets produced. £35

Silver Pack – Exclusive head, uncut sticker set. Strictly limited to 30 sets produced. £25

Bronze Pack – Exclusive head. Limited to 40 sets. £20

Basic Pack – Unpainted Exclusive Head. Limited to initial orders. £15

The Gold and Silver Sets are the best value, and orders are strictly limited to:

Gold OR Silver OR Bronze – 1 per Customer

Basic Pack – 2 per customer

In order to make sure as many people get these as possible, you can only order either a Gold, Silver or Bronze package, as well as up to two basic packages, but you cannot more than one of either of the coloured packages.

Gold packs are ONLY available to physical attendees who are at Auto Assembly 2012.

These packs will only ever be available for the 2012 convention, and this will be the only place the head will EVER be available; it will NEVER be available on the Shapeways Store. Stock is strictly first come, first served and limited to attendees and non attendee pack holders only and Pre-sales for this are live NOW!

Existing ticket holders will need to email beckettsid@hotmail.com and request GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE or BASIC along with quantities, and we'll send you a PayPal invoice. You will need to provide your Auto Assembly 2012 ticket number with your order. Items can only be collected from Auto Assembly in person on the 4th or 5th August 2012.

Non-attendees need to select and order the packs they want when ordering their non-attendee packages from http://www.autoassembly.org.uk but hurry while stock last. If you haven't already registered for the convention and want to take part in the workshop, book now to avoid disappointment!

In order to complete your figure, you will need to be semi-proficient at customising and you will need paint, tools and skill, as demonstrated in the kitbash seminar. Auto Assembly, Kapow Toys and Calloway Customs accept no responsibility if you damage or fail to complete your kitbash, and we offer the service of the Kitbash Seminar and follow-up online resources including the video of the workshop that will be released after the convention merely as a guide to assist you, with no guarantees as to the end result.

While I'd love to get that head and sticker set to customize my own Wheeljack, I cannot justify £50 for the international non-attendee and then another £25 for the head and stickers, which in total equates to about $120CAD.

I hope there are some gold or silver packages left when I get paid on Friday. While there was the shared exclusive notReflector set last year this is still the closest that we've come to a proper UK con exclusive so far. Hopefully this will be a big success for AA and help demonstrate the demand a Hasbro originated exclusive in future years.

Yeah, it's pricey, but after checking it out... at LEAST the package does come with a lot of stuff. Signed litho, comics, magazine, postcards, music cd and what not... plus world-wide shipping.

I wish you could get the kit without all the extra stuff, but at least you know you're supporting a fan-done convention... and for the UK. It's a nice cause, and they're a really nice team from the ones I've rubbed elbows with.

Yea, I hope there's still some left with stickers till I can book and order this set this weekend.

I'd love the head and sticker set, but I just can't justify the total cost.

I am sad

I've just sent the email asking for gold, or silver if they're sold out. Having reread the release I figure it won't be a huge problem to sit on the paypal invoice for a couple of days and forward the funds first thing Friday. Hopefully I'll get the gold and save on the trouble of tracking down another Wheeljack since I sold on the second one from my Warpath case last year.

-edit- Also, expect any Wheeljacks in the dealer room to be going for a premium this year guys.

I think the gold is only for attendees, from what I read. Since Wheeljack wasn't sold in the UK, getting one for them is a bigger issue. I'm sure that's why they're including it with the attendee packages. :-?

@gothsaurus - Yes that's what the release says. If you were replying to me specifically then I'm aware of that and am a full weekend attendee.

OH! Glad. Yeah, I was just hoping to try to help clarify for those in the thread... and you, if you didn't know.

You'll have to pop back and tell about your experience at the con for those of us stateside!

I can do better than that. I'll have my camera, laptop, dongle and a handy News Mod that I'm splitting a room with on hand all weekend for up to the minute coverage (Assuming I don't get really drunk and forget to take photos again...).

Awwww yeah! Let me know where to watch and I'll be there.

I actually was chatting with a UK friend about connecting up maybe next year to go. Would be a good excuse to visit... instead of going to all those dank castles I usually go to. (ha) Will be looking forward to a glimpse into the con and what I should expect.

Just keep your eye on the news feed over the weekend of the con. I'm sure Dead Metal will be making regular updates from the Friday night onwards.

Just a quick message and FYI...if you're worried about attendee packs selling out before a payday, email and request an invoice now. This will hold the figure for two weeks otherwise you'll lose out, after the two weeks I'll offer it to anyone on the waiting list.

Gold packs 50% sold out.

As for the non-attendee packages, you can order two extra unpainted heads with the Silver or Bronze pack, so if three of you club together it reduces the cost of the non-attendee package.

Remember, the non-attendee price includes shipping. A single TFCC figure P+P'd to the UK costs more than the non-attendee package!

I think that the prices for the Marlboor kits themselves are pretty good - £15 for a brand new head mould is fairly good as these do cost money to develop and design and the higher costs with new stickers right up to the £35 pack with a toy are pretty good value.

Looking at the Non-Attendee Pack separately, you have to remember that you are getting a magazine signed by 16 guests, many of whom are not likely to appear at any convention outside of the UK in the near future (including the ENTIRE team responsible for Regeneration One) and three voice actors, a full colour magazine, a full colour comic, a massive litho with exclusive artwork from Marvel G1 artist Jeff Anderson plus more...

And all of this is inclusive of shipping. The shipping and packing cost alone to us is going to be around £17 per pack because of the double mailing to protect the litho, possibly more if we add more items to the pack and shipping on the Marlboor kits (which are being supplied by Calloway Customs) is FREE regardless of how many you order.

As Sid said, you could also get together with a few friends and order the maximum allowance of three kits if you're not interested in the rest of the pack reducing the equivalent individual cost but also, even though you're not actually attending the convention, because we are releasing the footage on Youtube, you'll still be able to actively follow the workshop at no extra cost.

The kits themselves are fairly reasonable, I just don't have any interest in the rest of the package required to order the kit...in essence making it a £75 purchase, or about $116. That's just too much for a head and some stickers...for me, anyhow.

But it was cool of you guys to offer it to those of us that can't attend. And it's a great looking figure. Well done.

Our pleasure to help! I will try to answer emails and sort problems out as quickly as I can but the response to the Marlboor kit has been phenomenal so far and it is selling out fast. We have had to re-arrange our allocations slightly so we have been able to offer more of the Silver Kits to our Non-Attendees to meet demand as they had almost sold out this afternoon (our attendees are going for the Gold Kit in preference to the Silver one) but there is a chance that we may not have any left at all apart from the Basic Head by this time next week at the rate they are selling!

Thanks again everyone for all your support! :)

^ Yeah, big props to Simon and the rest of the AA team. I've known him for the best part of 10 years now and he always works his ass off to make AA a great event. It's a shame that the AA forums kind of dried up, the forum meet ups were always a lot of fun.
