Hopefully, by the time this comes out, the price will drop to a more realistic level...

Its an option and the best one. We do of course have to pay an extra 50$ more than the US for duty.

Yeah but $50 when it comes to Masterpiece is pretty negligible right?
Then again I did just get MPM-05 because it was $50 cheaper than normal...

There are a lot of similarities in the colors and how they're laid out and not only found on the cartoon model (unpainted grab bars and wipers), but also has the same unrealistic over sized rivets (real rivets are much smaller, even on MP-10 and MPM-4). And think about it, MPs so far have striven for two types of accuracy: cartoon or toy, so when an alt mode can't be based on something in the real world then they're either going to go for cartoon or toy accuracy. I look at MP-44's alt mode as a cross between the G1 toy and the cartoon and think they did a pretty good job of it.
As for the fuel tanks, yeah, they aren't great and covered with a lot of stuff, but they were square on MP-10 as well. In both cases it was a compromise for the bot mode that I don't think it hurts the truck mode any.

And I reiterate that dumbing the appearance down to the limits of the original toys and the cartoon is a step in the wrong direction, as is the overuse of faux parts in a foolhardy attempt to capture cartoon proportions that were never consistently drawn in the first place.

As far as cartoon accuracy goes, don't forget that this is the same company that painted up Hot Rod to look like an animation error from a season they didn't even initially get until years later. Personally the attempt at animation "accuracy" is everything I've ever wanted in a Transformers line since I was a kid in the '80s. For me the shift in direction for the MP line from toy accuracy to cartoon accuracy is the best thing to ever happen to the Transformers franchise, despite the required sacrifices in the transformation. As much as I like MP-44 I actually wish the truck mode went FURTHER and removed the rivets and gave him big square headlights (wipers optional).
To each their own.

I think they ought to go back to adding what the cartoon added without subtracting what it had to leave out. To me, the including the visual dumbing-down (especially in not only the deco but the molding as well) makes him no more a masterpiece than a junked vintage Optimus with worn and missing stickers would be. No matter how involved the engineering is. In fact, the more overly complicated the engineering the less of a Masterpiece he is. I think they should stick to adding enough complexity to capture accuracy on key points (like the square forearms in Optimus' case) as needed while maintaining enough simplicity to feel like the G1 transformation in spirit as much as possible.

I like the truck-form more and more. Most of the time on the cartoon, Optimus had angular fuel tanks. The cylindrical ones were "rare" like the stripes. And like someone else here said, I too see the cab as a sort of mix between realistic-looking and cartoon-accurate.
The overall look evokes the cartoon, with a blend of "real world" surface details -- and little "edits" like the bumper and lights that will make him look good with the licensed sports cars.
I hope there won't be any alignment defects to the truck bed. The 360 turn-arounds of the alt-mode look off. Takara has been getting kind of sloppy with their photos so hopefully it's just that.

I suppose an argument could be made that some of the cost is a result of an abundance of accessories? But Ratchet, Ironhide, Grapple, and Inferno all came with quite a few accessories, and their respective prices weren’t exorbitant. And since I’m sure we’ll be seeing repaint after repaint of this latest Optimus, as we have with previous molds, it’s not as though some of the cost can’t be made up by rolling out the redecos over the next couple years. They’re bound to do it.

No. Some think that Hound was supposed to get released before MP-44 Prime, but was pushed back because of production delays. (The new Convoy absolutely has to be out on the brand's 35th anniversary.)

This is all speculation, but he'll likely be MP-45 after Optimus since he's MP-44 and Megatron is MP-43, either late in 2019 or early in 2020. I'm thinking December along with a repaint, possibly the Dinobot mold the same way this year is ending with Shockwave and Megatron repaints.
Back to Optimus, wow, 12 steps and they don't look too crazy. And I was right about part of the cab forming his legs.

Price be damned.
Eh, I'm about to buy a 1000$ doll so a 600$ Transformers is not that far fetched. But one thing is sure, I'll be watching and reading a TONS of reviews before committing.

Out of total curiosity, what's the doll you're buying? Is it one of the larger scales?
So that transformation scheme looks like the best part to me because of how intricate it is, but I do wish we'd move away from cartoon accuracy... Maybe when the cast is complete we can finally look to the future again.

MP-44 is stated for a release in August and comes with a whole host of accessories including Starscreams head so you can replicate scenes from the G1 cartoon episode "Megatron's Master Plan". Also included are three human figures representing Sparkplug, Spike and Carly.
Are you looking forward to this release? Or are you still on the fence? Does this video do anything to sway your opinion? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews.

What drew me to the masterpiece line was the perfect blend of original toy design and cartoon style. I really liked having the details from the g1 toy incorporated into the sculpts of the mp figures. I also really loved how the spirit of the g1 transformation was also put into them. to me, thats what made them masterpieces. I do appreciate the new almost cartoon perfect approach, and I think its well executed, but it does take away from the beauty of the toys imho. not knocking the design and effort it takes to pull this off, its astounding to see what they can engineer now. but maybe they are taking it a bit too far.
my feelings on that, added to the astronomical price (i understand having way more parts to accommodate the transformation means higher tolerances, higher piece-count which equals higher price)means I really can not justify buying this. sad too since one of the gas tanks on my mp10 just fell off.

This is how I feel, except I do knock the design and effort because it is in my opinion effort expended unnecessarily and in completely the wrong direction. It's like messing up on a math problem through overthinking, the thought and effort put in doesn't make you any less wrong.
As to your MP-10's fuel tank.. Krazy-Glue is cheap

the pin joint on the inside just crumbled. I could glue it, but it would never be move-able. I still want to be able to transform it. maybe I will wait and look for a cheap junker mp10 and swap parts

I'm looking into the 1/3 Dollfie Dream. Especially DD Hatsune Miku or the very elusive DDS Kagamine Rin. Those things are impossible to get from the primary source (Volks) at the "reasonable" 70000 yen price. The only way to get them is on the secondary market at a 10K yen or even 40K yen mark-up.
To put things in perspective, just imagine if the new MP Optimus 3.0 was only offered by Takara. Only 500 would be produced. Then for the preorders, people would have to ENTER A LOTTERY just to WIN THE RIGHT TO PREORDER. Then once you won, you get your 50K yen Optimus. Plus you have to pay shipping and other fees on top, of course.
Finally, half if not 3/4 of the preorders were won by resellers. Now the only way to get the new MP Optimus is from random stores or Ebay and he cost at the very least 1000$US.
That's the luxury doll world in a nutshell!
