Curious to how it'll be colored. I'm hoping for his Transmetal scheme. Either way, I'm glad I passed of Grimlock (granted I don't recall ever actually seeing Grim).

And speaking of T-Rex, I want T-Wrecks!

Yeah, they seem to do a lot of mistransformations... When grimmys dino head is aligned straight he looks fine.

Not that I think about it, Transmetal Megatron's T-Rex head ended up in the very same place.

Bumblevivisector wrote:All that talk of GPS in the Laser Rods gallery thread has me wondering about their choice of gold plastic for this test shot: since all the "prototypes" (it's technically only a prototype if the sculptor did some hand-carving on it; a molded figure in simpler colors is called a test shot) that turn up on ebay are supposedly only there through theft, could this guy be the start of a trend of using their excess GPS plastic to produce test shots that'll fall apart in a few years, half-solving the problem? It'd be a shame if a Transmetal Megatron homage ended up suffering the same problem as the Kenner original, so I hope it's not cuz' the real deal will have this same color plastic. Then again, he's not that sparkly...
Only a certain type of Gold and Bronze plastic is susceptible to GPS, and the plastic of this test shot is not one of them. Nowadays Hasbro is too careful, the latest reported case stems from, ironically enough, the Millenium Falcon. Though Protoform Starscream looks dangerous...

As you can see, his Transmetalized head is much closer to the prototype's.
Plus, Fall of Cybertron Grimlock would look fabulous in Transmetal tan-and-violet.

In my honest opinion, they should either a) rerelease the Transmetal toy with plastics immune to GPS, or b) come up with a new mold that has the exact features the original toy has.

I did forget about that. But knowing Hasbro, they will probably paint him the same color as the one with the dino hand. I'm not a fan of taking older figures that are already fully articulated and doing them over, especially as repaints. There's too many bricks from the 80's that still need a homage. The classics Dinobot and Cheetor were cool because they were original molds meant for those characters.
Posted by Sabrblade on April 14th, 2013 @ 4:17pm CDT
Doubtful, since they went so far as to make the new head look like his Transmetal head model instead of his original body's head.Rated X wrote:I did forget about that. But knowing Hasbro, they will probably paint him the same color as the one with the dino hand.
I'll give you Dinobot (especially Takara's beautiful deco of it), but that Universe Cheetor was awful. I'll take the original over it any day.Rated X wrote:The classics Dinobot and Cheetor were cool because they were original molds meant for those characters.

Oh, well... I'll probably pick it up just for being a Beast Wars homage in any case.

One would hope that it's not stolen, but that's sometimes the case.

Agreed. I wasn't too interested in the figure, considering I have FOC Grim and a TM Megatron, but I'm even less interested since the head is the only thing new.
Maybe I'm getting a little spoiled, but Hasbro's been putting out some really nice retools/remolds recently. For example, Blaster(even though I've yet to find Soundblaster) has just enough new parts(and a new gun) to make him unique, and I really like that figure. In conjunction, the data discs all have excellent remold/retools to make them feel unique, and when compared side by side I was surprised by how different they were.

Oh, I know! They've been retooling like they damn well mean it lately... Why did they have to drop the ball on this, of all possible figures?!

Well, I think it was an error to attempt to make a Beast Wars Megatron out of Grimlock. He's a T-Rex, so I understand the temptation, but they took a very bulky mold and made it into a Transformer explicitly designed to be a smaller and more energy efficient design. As a result, Megs' head looks good, but his body is so massive it doesn't look much like his cartoon self.
Think I'll stick with United deluxe Megs.

I only started collecting TF toys within the last year. Far to late to get any Beast Wars toys in stores, and online prices are WAY out of my league.

Just because we're seeing this now doesn't mean it'll ever get released right away. Nowadays most molds are outfitted with two planned heads, and more than likely different parts even, with one set used and the other discarded when the toy's constructed. Definitely worth asking at the Hasbro Q&A at Botcon:
"In Generations, we've noticed a trend in retools being no less than a few months apart. Similar to the process of molding two heads at the same time and using only one for a toy (what we called "pretooled heads"), are all parts designed and produced at the same time, or is there switching out of mold sets involved?"

Also, the fangs are to far into his face.
Are you kidding me? The original CGI render/toy has the talons closer to his face than this figure.
I wouldn't mind seeing this head for a future BotCon exclusive using the new Predaking's mold though.
Except that Megatron's Transmetal II head is subtly different than his Transmetal I head.

Totally with you on that. (Apart from the BotCon exclusive bit.)

BAH!!!! Inconsequential. It'd be a distinctly Megatron head on a dragon's body. That'll do me very nicely.
