Despite the fantastic amount of new toys we are receiving from Hasbro this year, many fans have been anticipating the next release from third party FansProject. Late last year they previewed their 5 figure set, Causality. The first two members were Warcry and Flameblast, repaints of their Bruticus upgrades, Munitioner and Explorer.
Now the three remaining members of this 5 member set have been revealed today! They are in fact going to be Insecticons! Stormshred, taking after G1 Shrapnel, Thunderbomb homages Bombshell, and Backfire will likely be your Classics-verse Kickback!
Check out the prototype images below!
CA-03 Stormshred
CA-04 Thunderbomb
CA-05 Backfire
Causality is set for release this summer! Thanks goes out to Seibertron.com member Oilspill with the quick hands for finding the scoop.

I suspect we will soon see some final pics of Warcry/Flameblast and then preorders will go up for late March (for Warcry) & sometime April (for Flameblast). Just guessing though. You'd think there wouldn't be too many production issues/delays since they are just retools, but you never know.

Why are they so blocky? Why such simple transformations?
Why not go for full-on beast modes? With insects, and their segmented exoskeletons, it's much more appropriate and easier too.

They're trying some new things too. Thunderbomb horn and front legs are a pair of sai and sickles utilizing their own multi-purpose clip-system. Utilizing their abilities to make supremely posable figures all three have ninja themed weapons. This is taken a step further on the their webpage using the kanji for wind, thunder, and fire (tied to their names) to link to the HD images.
This is what I love Fansproject for. They don't just make a toy and walk away, these guys are showmen who take a design choice to heart! I wonder if the last two will be pirate themed?

I think everyone learned back in Beast Wars that full on beast modes are hidious and lead to rediculous looking transformers. Part of the appeal in the original Insecticons and even the Dinobots was that they resembled insects and dinosaurs but you're have to be a "Gentle Jack" to not figure out there were robots.
I think the blocky look is working very well on these figures, and I was their biggest critic when the first images came out.

Nope.

That never happens to me with FansProject! The final images always impress me and the colors are great. Simply can't wait to pick up these guys!

Unfortunalty, not in the budget, but really nice none the less.
Although, I have to admit, no stinger on the top of Not-Bombshell, no pinchers on the back of Not-Shrapnel, and no giant shoulder wings on Not-Kickback kinda ruin it for me. I'm all for updates, but those are just oddly important to me for those characters.

I agree with Down Shift about FP Insecticons and the way they look, the blockyness does work with them and gives them a touch of G1 inspiration.

Anyone thinking we'll see Venom/Barrage/Chop Shop/Ransack repaints?
Posted by g2grimmy64 on February 22nd, 2011 @ 8:36am CST
1. Shrapnel's pincers not resting on his shoulders & Bombshell's horn not sticking out of/over his head, visual attributes that, imho, are as key to their respective characters as the shoulder vents & tummy cockpits are to the seekers
2. Shrap & Kickback having face plates? I understand FP's giving these figs a ninja theme, but still...
Otherwise, these figs are made of win!

I was thinking about this myself, but looking closely, it seems that Shrapnel's (Stormshred's) pincers do rest on his shoulders. They reattach on to his arms to form the claw weapons, but you could just as easily leave them where they are attached in insect mode, which would give him his G1 silhouette. Thunderbomb's lack of the iconic cerebro-shell stinger is a bit of a shame, but for Backfire I'm wondering if the wings can rotate up in bot mode ala G1 Kickback. Note that all three are very G1 in the shoulder/chest designs (except the cockpits, which I don't miss).
Also, I'm wondering if the differences allow FP to remould them inthe the G1 Deluxe Insecticons Ransack, Barrage & Chop Shop? The pic of Backfire in alt mode does bear a remarkable resemblance to Ransack. I put together a pic here:
I reckon repaints/remoulds into the deluxe insecticons for sure!

Speaking of Gundams, these figures also have hinged wrists in the same fashion as allot of new Gunpla kits these days. This amount of articulation is something Hasbro will never be able to accomplish on their budgets.

Warcry and Flameblast had remolded heads to distinguish them from Swindle and Blastoff, right?
Maybe they'll do the opposite with Bombshell and Shrapnel? I mean, really, you need at least 5 Insecticons for the combiner to not seem silly anyway. 3 Bugs, a truck, and a spaceshuttle is just too random. But then, that would only work if Kickback is the torso...

These are not combiners, at least that's what those "in the know" have been saying about this line.

Do I get the HOS version or the FP, FP has better details and has got the original design, but HOS will be undoubtedly cheaper, FP has made us lots of good quality custom TF’s in the past, HOS is a newer company, but my story line does not require insecticons, how ever my story line does require a enemy train bot,

Don't hurt yourself. Buy them both Although, we haven't seen anything new from the HOS version in quite some time.
So far I am completely sold on the Causality line. I'm very excited to see what the last two spots will be.

No more so than Munitioner and Explorer were. Same scale, same price, same level of sophistication. Same awesome.
