I had no interest in Dirt Boss, but Spoon is a definite grab. Finally it looks like BugBite's warning more would be crossing over may finally bear more fruit.

Now Bugbite and Crasher won't be so alone.
(I already bought Dirtboss for this reason...but, hey, upgrades are cool. And this time...he wanted to be the red one.)

Done!
I own every Gobot that has made it into the Transformers Universe plus Leader-1 and Cy-Kill. Now I've got Spoons. One day I'll bust out these Gobots for the galleries here on Seibertron.com. Maybe once Spoons comes out.

The GIANT ARM BLADES don't do it for you?
Posted by cannonfodder4000 on October 30th, 2009 @ 3:39pm CDT
but based on the replys i'm sure its just a gobot homage

Not sure about the blades cause once something is too big, it looks out of proportion rather then threatening. Hey I pulled Spoon out the closet. Now that I see both together, I think the grey does not go with the original Gobot paint scheme to be an accurate homage. Anbody else agree ???

The grey and silver is an acceptable addition to the adaptation. Because for one it makes the coloration in vehicle mode more realistic. We have similar looking forklifts at work, right down to the shade of red-orange, and it matches this pretty well.
The other is that a solid lump of orange isn't going to look very interesting or sell.

The gray is fine seeing most Spoons had a gray chest and the robot mode is suppose to have the lift blades folded up on the leg not left sticking out.
Strange that yours had an orange chest. Are you sure it's an Original, seeing the archive says he wasn't remolded/recolored.

Spoons was a member of the Renegade faction of Gobots toys.

That's obscure and awesome. Too bad the kids and casual collectors will have absolutely no idea why this figure's awesome.
We seriously need a really cool Go-Bot revival. And no, I'm not kidding.

"Mommy, spoons!"
"No, honey, those aren't spoons!"
"oh, o.k! la-lala-lala..."
or something...

The eHobby Minibots, Crasher, Spoons, Bug Bite, ROTF The Fallen. Am I missing anyone?

The Fallen only in design. The name and character are an homage to a dead comic company.

I would totally not include the Fallen in that list. He's about the furthest thing away from an homage unless all black alien jets from this day forward are going to be considered an homage. I don't think he looks like an homage to the Gobots figure I've heard some mention. If there are any similarities, I think it's merely coincidence.
The rest are all supposed to be direct homages.

I think the Fallen just screams "Vamp". However, I think the eHobby stuff failed miserably because none of the colors really matched. They just used the names.

Correction: Takara wanted too. But they decided against it since the names referred to Bandai products, their main competitor. While the chances of it actually infringing copyright is minimal, Takara decided to play it safe. All the e-Hobby G1 Gobots ever got were individual designation numbers, no official names.

While the official toy release failed to give them proper designations, Takara did release them as the "G1 GoBots" Team and the bios included with them make it quite clear the they are the same characters as Pathfinder, Small Foot, Road Ranger, Treads, Bad Boy and Bug Bite. They were also added to NA G1 do to the BotCon BugBite release with the fiction showing that he is the upgraded version of the Takara release.
I find where the pack failed was A) that it wasn't that the colors didn't match the originals, It's that the colors were the original concepts for Powerglide, Warpath and Cosmos toys making it harder to match them to different characters, and B) where Hasbro acquired the old rights for GoBots, and many Fans have waited and expected these homages, the same doesn't exist for Takara, and even the toys which we think of as GoBots, were seen in a different light there, making the connection much more of a stretch.
For the record, from Hirofumi Ichikawa, Fan and Takara Employee. Regarding lack of Character knowledge and Takara/Bandai concerns:
Hirofumi Ichikawa wrote:"When e-Hobby first announced the G1 GoBots, hardly any Japanese fans understood their background info. When it was learned the character's names were 'American brand names for Machine Robos,' some people on the net apparently said that 'Takara has infringed on Bandai's copyrights.'
In Japan, brand name copyrights basically depend only on title (which in this case is just the 'G1 GoBots' part), so however Takara named the characters for the content, there shouldn't have been any conflict over questions of rights. From what I hear, though, a "well-informed" person said, 'Bandai's the kind of company for which there's no telling what they'll do if they get upset,' and he rather firmly recommended the use of the names be discontinued. As expected, even Takara had to reconsider, and as a result, the personal names of the GoBots were completely eliminated from the product. I think it was a pretty ridiculous idea, myself, but since I can't make a client bear risk, even if it's a one-in-a-million chance, I didn't really try to refute it.
(By the time I heard about the situation, it was already a done deal, so opposing it would've done squat-all anyway.)"

Maybe Spoons the 2nd?
Or Decepticon Spoons, to go along with Decepticon Brawl, Autobot Jazz and Autobot Ratchet, and any other naming problem figures who just get their faction name attached to the front?

Be more accurate and he could be tagged as "Renegade Spoons". If they do, his Bio better make some cryptic reference to Withered Hope.
