"No Sir, I don't like it."
I actually prefer the busier colors of the Hasbro original. In fact, I'm a little underwhelmed by Takara's repaints of this line. It's...really, really unimpressive. I was expecting the wow factor and got the bah factor.
I would like to see Takara do their own take on the rest of the Seekers though... (different enough not to infringe on the BC ones.)

The law has no requirement for toy gun to look real and need a colorful plastic tip.

I echo these sentiments. IMO the colors do not work that well on the toy.

The new colors are cool looking, but I don't need it.

Otherwise he does look alot better without the green and purple.
Still gotta do something with the red though

Its robot mode is kinda ok, but the gun looks like a super soaker...

Nerf N-strike Maverick, actually.-Barricade- wrote:I'm with the people who said no thanks.

The robot is quite acceptable. But not good enough. Looks cheap. Hasbro's purple-grey combination looks better.
The gun mode is a big no-no. It doesn't know what it wants to be. A real gun replica? Not good. An imaginative toy gun? Not good either.
At least Hasbro's purple gun is no pretender. It was designed to be what it is. A kiddied toy gun. The color suits it well.

If it was GunMetal, and black, I'd do it. But the more I look at it, the more it looks like a novice repaint, and I can do that myself.

I have no doubt you can do much better.
Here's mine, for example.
All hand-brush painted with Tamiya paint.

Great job, but I'd just make him more dull gray.
I'm gonna have to look for a cheap loosie on Ebay to mess around with.
Posted by Auto Bot on December 26th, 2007 @ 12:49am CST
Takara Megatron will look a lot better if you can just correct the random shots of red paint.
And easier to do, because you won't have to color the whole body.
Posted by Liege Evilmus on December 26th, 2007 @ 1:00am CST
It would probably be better to start from scratch.
They over complicated him. If they went flat colors, with detailing paint aps as apose to highlighting, they would have been better off.
Personaly, I don't understand why they made it a point to turn the orange parts black on a white gun anyway
As to those looking to import, keep in mind MP Megs, and this guy has solid parts! It's not gonna be a simple plug fix I bet.

I thought Japs Megatron may not be compelling enough to buy, considering i have the US Megs.
But i was wrong. Japs Megatron is not even at par with US version.
I hope that picture is just a prototype. And more improvements will come in the final release.

I mean, cybertron megatron's colours scheme was already an abomination, but the classic one just blows.
Takara knows how to do a good repaint.

I honestly doubt importing will be a problem. The "red" on him looks more like safety orange to me, & with it having some on the end of the revolver part, which honestly is the closest thing to a barrel that thing has, I don't think it's gonna matter that the little plug on the end isn't orange.Liege Evilmus wrote:As to those looking to import, keep in mind MP Megs, and this guy has solid parts! Not only that, there was a different problem with G1 & MP Megs that this one dosen't.....they were designed after a real gun, where this one obviously isn't. Like I said before, Nerf N-strike Maverick. I don't forsee any problems with importing this guy.

I've got to get this one. Damn my weak willpower!!!
Posted by Optimist_Prime on December 26th, 2007 @ 9:34am CST
If it is then I think I'm just going to repaint the classics Megs that i have.

I thought Hasbro's Classics Megatron was distinctive, well designed
and strongly evocative of the original character. However, I could have done without the wings (though at the same time I doubt I could have designed a version without them that didn't have a horrible looking robot mode) and the trigger guard was a bit small. Yeah, yeah, ages five and up...
Anyway, this new version is fine too. I wouldn't import it since I already have the mould, but it's rather funky. I see why people are saying "too much red"- I think it needs the red quite badly to overcome an otherwise bland colour scheme, but I wouldn't have put so much in the places Takara did.

Given G1 Megatron's color scheme can anyone really deny the fact that TakaraTomy's version will be considerably closer to G1 than Hasbro's version? We all know that Hasbro had to do the loud colors because of the toy gun safety laws so what we got from Hasbro was the best they'll ever be able to do in the US.
But if you were to look at the Hasbro version, the TakaraTomy version and a G1 cartoon still of Megs all together you have to admit that the version to be coming from TakaraTomy is considerably closer to G1. I for one like it! I've seen some damn incredible kitbashing that is just spectacular and those people deserve some mad props! But I don't have any kitbashing or repainting talents whatsoever. So I will be trying to get my hands on this one for sure. My Hasbro version will just have to be "Galvatron" until a real Classics Galvatron gets made.

Seriously, that is beautifully done.
Now, let's just hope QC is up to scratch.

Personally, I hated the Hasbro Megatron purely because of the colors. Way too fruity, he reminded me of a salad or something, with the bright purple and green. I was temped to buy him based on the fact that he's a gun, but passed on him because of those colors. And since I passed on him, I didn't bother woth Prime either.
Not to say I'd get this guy ... I have G1 and MP Megs and that does fill my "Megatron quota" quite well, but ..... it *is* tempting.

Yeah, but Classics aint G1, G1 died 20-odd years ago. All the classics toys are new designs of old characters, not repaints or upgrades of original G1 molds. If the Hasbro Megatron was supposed to be a direct copy of G1 Megatron i would have been pissed, but since it wasnt, nor was any of the other toys in the line, like Prime, Hotrod, Bumblebee etc etc, i am happy with the original Hasbro version. I would take it over this one any day as i think the distinctive colors add to its charm as a Classics line figure plus this new version doesnt give us anything new other than a different paint scheme to make it worth the amount of money it will cost to import it. I was never one to complain about the original mold's color so i see no point in this "new" version.

Those people who threw fits about Hasbro's colors are probably the people who are excited about the Takara release. The people who like Hasbro's colors seem to be the minority here.
Personally, Hasbro's colors looked a little jarring at first, but now I kind of like it. At least, I like it better than the Takara colors.

Still not sure I want that toy. Much, much better, but probably not worth the import price.

There's too much expectations on what Takara can do. There's always this notion that Takara can "always" do better than Hasbro.
Now reality sets in.

Bingo.
When I was completely uninformed, I used to think "Yeah! They're the greatest!", then I became a Hasbro fanboy and said "No, Takara's overpriced and for what? Paint?"m then I wised up and saw both sides of the fence....Hasbro and Takara both pull their own weight and provide us with great figures. Sometimes both companies either hit or miss and we've got to remember that.
Although, as I mentioned on another board, I do think Hasbro has a greed disease problem, what with all of their repaints and remolds, but after thinking on that...I realize it's all about making money for any company, not just Hasbro. So they're no more guilty than anyone else for trying to milk anything for it's worth.
I'm grateful that Hasbro has been answering the fans cries, and I'm definitely grateful that Takara has as well, but I have to be honest and say Takara's done a little more of that lately.
People wanted a G1 themed Classics Megatron? We got it.
G1 Reissues? We got 'em. (Including Sky Lynx!)
I realize that the markets are slightly different here and overseas and that the customer focus is definitely different (Hasbro appeases all ages, Takara goes for the collectors) and along the way, both companies are going to do things we don't care for.
It's the price we pay to get what we want, and if we have any complaining to do, it rests on our shoulders.
