G1 toy face found on Transformers MP 27 Ironhide

Posted by william-james88 Sep 15, 2015 at 7:18pm CDT 20,697 views
Fellow Seibertronian Cyberpath has posted some interesting pictures of a test figure of MP Ironhide. These come from the new listing on Takaratomymall (only available to Japan residents) and the unpainted figure reveals more details of the mold than ever before. The most novel of these details is the callback to the G1 toy's sticker face peering through the windshield. This should be fun for all those who enjoyed that face in the G1 toy.

Huh. I wonder if there's a way to hide Ironhide's face in robot mode and just have that be the face? :-?

Do people really like this that much? It's like the most mediocre looking Masterpiece release since MP-03 Starscream.

Those first two shots of the figure really look excellent, like the head shape and his proportions all look right. And then at other angles he looks misshapen. i guess its another one of those figures where it's better in person than on photo. :-?

A flat face? You want a flat face?

The only issue with MP-03 are those hip kibbles. He also does not have the "Blitzwing shoulder issues" of MP-11.The mold too has 2 facial expressions. So what part of MP-03 mold was anime/toy innacurate?

And already prejudged by PC images alone? >:oP

For starters, MP-03 Starscream was green. The head gimmick left much to be desired plus his head was too narrow.

Kind of. It's actually the seat with the Diaclone pilot plus the face like decal. When HB "transformed the toy into IH, the pilots were ditched and all you got left was an empty control seat-cum face. The MP homaged this with this Easter Egg, well an overt Easter Egg for those in the know.

The G1 toy is just a friendly reminder that these toys were something else before they were Transformers.

But Ryan, back when he was released, it was the "apex" of toy engineering. I dare to say, you felt it to back then. Same with MP-01. As for the "realistic(?)" colors, I was referring to the HB "heroic" F-15 acrobatic jet colors. Though MP-03 and HB MP, I tend to switch them vice-versa.

I still think MP 01 is an apex of engineering, especially when you include all the extra detail he has. And he doesnt have a peehole.

Put in my preorder for IHide the other day.
If i hadn't got a good deal, I might have passed.
I don't want to pre-judge on photos alone but the leg assembly, knees down, is more of a concern aesthetically than the waist flaps.
Time will tell.

MP-01 Convoy is the ultimate Optimus Prime toy. Period. MP-10 is great and is probably the second best OP toy ever but it exists because they couldn't make anything as awesome as MP-01 again so they reset the scale of the line. Look, I love MP-10 and keep him with my other MP's but MP-01 is the centerpiece of my rather comprehensive Optimus Prime display. If Prime walked down the street, he'd look like MP-01. THE Masterpiece Optimus Prime.

I am guessing the first would be the original G1 Optimus/ Battle Convoy?

Oh man, it gets abit confusig with those 1s and 0s and their order ;)

I get it now, MP 01 tops, MP 10 second best. I might agree with that, I dont know. I think they are both as good but the fact that MP 01 came first and MP 10 was just a marginal improvement in a few aspects does give MP 01 a greater sense of innovation and originality.

To be fair (to you), he should have written it as "MP-1" (no zero). ;)

I'm sorry but mp-1 to me is a mess. His robot mode looks amazing but is plagued with knee joints breaking and his head popping off. His proportions are also a Lil off.
Mp-1's vehicle mode looks like a lazy attempt to represent the cartoon or G1 toy.
I do agree he is an amazing feat of engineering, and it set the bar high for future masterpiece figure engineering.
Ironically enough, I am interested in buying a Takara mp -1 for my mp-5. Lol
