Disclaimer done, to the news:
The "GI JOE MOVIE" will be released on August 7, 2009, according to ComingSoon.Net. A few months after the release of TF2 is scheduled.
Also, it is being reported that actress, Sienna Miller, will be starring in the "GI JOE MOVIE" as The Baroness. Will she break fan boy hearts like Megan Fox did as Micaela? We shall see...
Sienna Miller IMBD
If it was not obvious that she was meant for the part, comparing the statue and the magazine cover (her w/tiger), I would say she fits if you give her a black hair dye!

"Monique" is a name in itself, which makes me wonder what goes between the "o" and "n" in her name that demands an apostrophe.

Yep, but she would have to lose about 200 lbs before her first scene.

EDIT: It's not so much that we 'Hate America(TM)' but the "World Police(also TM)" attitude of the current leadership makes their armed forces less popular than they've been since Vietnam. A sensible government could work wonders to heal the damage the current one has done. Probably not in time for this film, sadly.

So...I have pretty good hopes for this. A much more realistic GI Joe. I just hope they don't make Cobra do crazy schemes that Bond Villains turned down, like they would always do in the cartoons. That would be dumb.

as for sienna miller, i read about this earlier this week but i remember them saying she'd be playing a redhead so i assumed she'd be that redhead GI JOE girl. forgive me for not knowing the name but i never watched or followed this cartoon.

Maybe they should have tried to make an Action Force (International Heroes) movie? Flint is former SAS (British special forces), Scarlett is, I think, Irish... keep enough of the multicultural characters and you might just be able to pull it off

Apparently not.
The choice for Baroness was perfect. However the pictures shown don't really do her justice.
The only fear I have, is I hope she can pull off the accent, and be evil as hell.
And, at least they're going a step in the right direction for the movie. No longer will it be a Action Man/Duke buddy cop flick. But actually have Joe's, and Cobra in it.
Of course this movie could bomb. But it doesn't matter. We're all going to end up seeing it in theaters a few times anyway.

Also, on a unrelated happy note, I sent pics of MP StarScream to everyone I know and told them to keep their eyes peeled for me. I just got an email from my sister and she told me that she went on ebay and just scored me 2!

Yeah but she costs alot and if they're thinking sequil, she'll only run them more. I think alot of franchises learned from the X-Men movies about the value of star power vs general hot actress.

Public support for military action was... well, in a country of 50 million people over one million turned out to a single protest march in London. If memory serves, the first report of British casualties resulted from a US helicopter crashing into them, and the next two were friendly fire from US units. Between the two, you can probably imagine why it all went half-price within a couple of months and nowhere stocked anything beyond wave 1.

You wanna know something, AMERICANS feel the same way. But we THE PEOPLE aren't going to be bashed because a leader (encouraged by other parts of the world) went into a war for the wrong reasons.
As for the "World Police". I can't tell you how many American's feel we shouldn't be that, and how many imigrants and refugies here keep saying it's our responsibility, and curse us for not doing more as the live in these lands.
If we're so bad here, why didn't you stay in your nation, or move to another one?

Have you seen Black Hawk Down? absolutely FREAKIN' INCREDIBLE movie about US Army Rangers, and some of the cast was from the UK or Australia, like Orlando Bloom and Ewan McGregor. Though there were plenty of Americans, like William Fichtner and Josh Hartnett.

I think you answered your own question there- if western (not just US- I'd be a hypocrite of impressive proportions if I suggested the UK wasn't in it up to our necks as well) support for really nasty regimes like those in Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan et al was removed, victims of their violence and corruption perhaps wouldn't be so desperate to leave. That's a gross over-simplification, obviously, but hey- this is a Transformers discussion board.

Technically it was the Russians who beat Hitler by holding back his conquest of their country by sheer weight of numbers at a cost of millions of lives. On the other front the Nazis were overwhelmed by a combination of British and American armed forces, Italian rebels, French resistance fighters etc. Allies are important no matter who you are. Piss off the rest of the world and you could find it's lonely at the top

Hey, I'm with ya, we had allies till Tony Blair for example was ousted, and hell before Pearl Harbor, we where doing just fine(and who contributed strongly in the pacific?)
But for real, there is a diference between the American people and the American goverment. We are a nation of imigrants, but a nation that in itself pulled together for the betterment of future generations.
So we may have alot, but still on a household level, you won't have a dam thing unless you chip in and pull your weight.
Now I can see a general distane towards the actions of the curent cabinet, but thanks to instated term limits, we can either vote to continue a current trend(even with a different president) or go a completely different course like the 2008 election is pointing strongly towards.
But I'm not a political person. Still when I here bashs on my country and I think of it's heart, hard working people like me, my neighbors, and so on, I do take offense. If you brought it to a personal and not global level, you'd see that we are an honest good people.
But hell, like you said, lack of allies makes for a lonely feeling and so on. Well, that wasn't always the case. It just seems that to many places once again forgot the suport they once offered, as well as forgot about the help they once asked for.
It's a bigger shame when refugies both legal and otherwise wave their flags in protest of us as laws are bent, abandoned, created, and changed to suport their traditions and needs in lue of exisiting citizens well being.
Hell as for the big guy always being hated, that's something that has existed since prehistory. So to the sneering outside world, who doesn't like us, well again I say, get out and keep to youselves. Lets pull our dollar suport out of starving nations and stop closing things like regiem rape rooms, and lets just see if you like us more for that
If someone has a problem with it, I say bring it, cause we got the bombs, and an embeded sence of brotherhood that wouldn't prevent us from wanting to using them.
Fortunately though even our most mislead leader isn't as clear cut as my infidel self

I did a lot of studying on this particular subject. The Russians did in fact do their part. However, so many forget that Hitler wasn't the only threat. The U.S. almost single-handedly fought the Japanese in the Pacific: one of the main sticking points of US entry into WW2 was Allied support in the Pacific. The fact remains that if the Allies had lost any one of three key battles in WW2- the Battle of Stalingrad, the Battle of Midway, and the Battle of Britain- the war would have gone on a lot longer and potentially gone the other way altogether. The loss of 600,000 German troops in Stalingrad was huge; however, equally as important was the sinking of ALL of Japan's aircraft carriers at Midway and the holding of England by the RAF-"so much owed to so many by so few"- without which the only possible invasion point would have been through Africa and the full force of German forces.
And thus ends our history lesson for the day.

I don't know if that will have anything to do with her role. I'd wager they make her into the "deadly seductress" type or femme fatale character.

No...no Dear GOD! No! The Baroness was never very old. Late twenties, early thirties at most.
And for the record, cut-off age is, I think, 36.

Well that is up to interpretation. The Marvel age had her pegged about lates 20's early 30's. She was in Vietnam when she was 16 when the Tiet offense started, but Devils Due have her as a much older, possibly early 40's. But then age doesn't matter in comics
Anyway I am would've gone with Kate Beckinsale, but Siena Miller is still a good choice. I'm guessing they will show the Baroness's path to Cobra, in that, an American bomb killed her parents or a soldier and she grew up hating the US, to which Cobra Comander swung in to take hold of her strings.

Correction: The quote was typed wrong: Never was so much owed by so many to so few.
Note: Japan used 5 carriers in the battle. 4 were sunk in a 5 minute span. The one that steamed away was later sunk in retreat by a group of American bombers that had gotten their navigations mixed up (also known as "they got lost"). This occurred roughly an hour after the primary battle.

Cheapest: locals
Next cheapest: Americans, Australians and Scots (long story) because their grandparents may have saved them from the Japanese.
Normal: Everybody else.
High: Chinese, not out of any particular grudge but because the tourists are usually loaded.
Highest: Japanese, because their grandparents may have invaded them. Also, usually loaded.
I'd have taken more advantage of it, but my cousins count as "local" so I just let them do the talking
Anyway, yes, GI Joe. Sienna Miller is lovely, but can she act? I can't remember seeing her in anything. The film in general looks like it's going to be a car crash, which only makes me want to see it more.

But Transformers and GI Joe have always been closely related. They're both from Hasbro, both targeted at boys. Hell, not only did they do a crossover comic series, but Cobra Commander appeared in G1. (In the episode "Only Human," referred to as "Old Snake," he was voiced by Cris Latta, and even yelled "COBRAAA!" before coughing uncontrollably) And Marissa Fairborne is supposed to be the daughter of two of the Joes. I think there's always been a connection and a friendly rivalry between Joe collectors and TF collectors. We all kind of team up against Star Wars collectors...then we rely on SW collectors for numbers against Pokemon collectors. Once we eliminate the Pokemon collectors we will destroy the Yu-Gi-Oh collectors, but not until we've used their numbers to destroy the Power Rangers forever.
