Hydrodive BB wasn't a repaint. And I was really looking forward to it since I didn't buy the original or the Elite Guard.
As for Atomic Lugnut, the stores in my area are just starting to get him, so I don't know how you can already be drawing conclusions about the sales numbers. Plus, Atomic Lugnut is ten times cooler and more badass than the purple and teal one.

I wasn't going to buy those but for the moment i believe that we are going to see a "shower" of Movie Transformers including numerous repaints and we are not going to see any new Universe or Animated Transformers for the current year. It's a shame.
Posted by Editor on February 24th, 2009 @ 10:42am CST
If store bookers are just looking at the wave and seeing a repaint and a figure that looks similar to Bumblebee which has been out there. (I doubt many of them would know the difference of the new mold) Knowing that they may still have units of BB and Grimmie in their inventories, they are not going to drop cash of what they perceive as shelfwarmers.

I doubt that. The rest of the Universe line is already in production as some Web sites and ebay sellers have them for sale.
It wouldn't surprise me if the animated line as a whole is doing poorly compared to the Movie line, and heck, maybe even the classics line. The stylized toys are far too divisive among fans.
Posted by GuyIncognito on February 24th, 2009 @ 10:47am CST
NOT a repaint.

The animated line isn't dooing poorly...And the movie line isn't even out yet...
I think people are overreacting, honestly...There's probably some kind of reason for the cancellation other than their just going to cancel everything that isn't movie-based...

Right. For everyone screaming repaint, check the pictures out. It was a new mold, that I wanted so bad so he'd be in scale

According to what Hasbro put out out at ToyFare last week, Universe is scheduled until Spring '09. So it is wrapping up right now anyway.
Since they projected 8 Animated Voyagers this year (including Wreck-gar, and Lugnut). So this could possibly make room for 6 new voyagers, instead of 4 this year. I hope the cancelation of these two, improves the chance to get more Season 3 characters made into voyagers (or the constructicons would be nice!!). But I doubt it.
BTW, The one Target that I found the Wreck-gar wave 3 weeks ago still has both Lugnuts sitting on the shelf, right next to the originals. Too bad too, I kind of like Lugnut

Actually, the Bumblebee is indeed new. Compare:

Notable differences: The hands, feet, lack of stingers, expression.
I'd imagine he would've been smaller as well.

atomic lugnut is just plain ugly ill never get hime i just got wreck-gar
i would never pay voyager price for an activator size BB

I'm drawing conclusions because they have been shelf warmers here for the better part of a month. And eventhough the BB came with a different accessory it was still a retool at best and a repaint at worst. I would liken the Bumblebee to Samurai Prowl only the Prowl concept is infinitely cooler and it was actually in the show (and he is not $22).GuyIncognito wrote:Omega Sentinel wrote:I'm not too disappointed over the cancellation of 2 pointless repaints. I'm also holding out hope for the rest of the animated seekers, either as store exclusives or as part of universe.
Posted by Dr. Caelus on February 24th, 2009 @ 12:16pm CST
Given, I would typically be critical of anyone staying the course simply because of sunk costs, but it's odd to see a company not make that mistake.
Kind of unfortunate - I might have gotten the Hydrodive Bumblebee.

I use my activators BB for scale with my voyager prime and deluxe ratchet as well =P
Im hoping too that this will eventually become a convention exclusive or something.

The odd thing is, we saw nothing of Animated or Universe at Toy Fair (nor did we hear about it's eventual demise or continuation.) and apparently neither Bumblebee or Grimlock made it to production, otherwise we'd have seen Chinese sellers hocking them on eBay.
I'm hoping it's just a case of these two being canceled, not the whole line.
If they cancel the line and Arcee never gets made, Hasbro's going to have hell on it's hands with disgruntled fans.
And really, it wouldn't kill 'em to at least give us Arcee.
Posted by Editor on February 24th, 2009 @ 1:49pm CST
Arcee and ES:SW have had a similar expected release period as the other two and we have yet to hear of those getting axed, so lets worry about what we know, lest we create disinformation.
The fact Hasbro had nothing at the NYTF is no shocker seeing that the preorders for the figures we have known about would have already started for corperate buyers, and that we know full well that Movie releases will be dominating things for most of this year. Just as the GIJoe displays were all about that movie while Other Joe products are still coming out.

Woah, slow down there Hoss. They canceled a repaint and an upgrade; that's all. Let's not jump to conclusions.

I'm guessing that new bumblebee will still make an appearance as a deluxe.
I just hope that it doesn't effect TF:A Arcee.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a followup press release saying that the number of voyagers for 2009 is going down (well already we know its down from 8 to 6) by knocking off any repaints. and the may increase the number of deluxes...I think following the movie we're going to find deluxes are the most common level for tfs for a while, They hit the good pricepoint/cost to produce level

Hello, collectors! Remember the Animated line we canceled in 2009 to make room for Return of the Fallen?
Here's 2 figures that just, gosh darn it, never made it to mass release!
Yes, it's Goldfire Grimlock and Hydrodive Bumblebee!
And now, for the low, low, low collector price of $99.99 we can bring them to your door!
...Just like those combiners with the crappy mold that needs updating.

PS... enough with the emails asking to bring the show back.

No it really is a completely new mold. It's as much a new mold as the new movie leader Optimus and voyager Starscream figures are.
Though it may have been difficult convincing people of that since apparently even some fans hadn't noticed.
As a fan of Animated, this is yet another blow. I thought Hydrodive BB was a stupid idea, but it wasn't a bad mold, and I would've gotten it. Why they they came up with this instead of Cybertronian Bumblebee boggles the mind.

I LOVED THAT REPAINT! SCREW YOU, HASBRO!
IF YOU HASBRO EMPLOYEES ARE ACTUALLY LISTENING TO ME, I WANT YOU TO
RELEASE THESE! Maybe after ROTF, Maybe before! You managed to have Animated and Universe at the same time, so why not ROTF and Animated?
Anywho, I WANT THEM!
Posted by Zeedust on February 24th, 2009 @ 8:00pm CST
Okay, I look forward to all the Animated toys. I love Animted.
But still, it just seems like a waste of effort to get a new mold for Bumblebee and a new color scheme for Grimlock ready and then just scrap them.
As for Bumblebee not having that Hydrodrive thing on the show, I'm not ready to rule out the possibility of him using it in season three, which was written before the toy was cancelled.
I really hope it turns out that these things are just delayed, rather than cancelled. If they're cancelled, it probably means no more Voyages from Animated at all.
Damn it, I don't want this toyline to be ending! We still don't have Constructicons or Omega Supreme, and there's still two Starscream clones that don;t have toys yet!

No, no it doesn't lol.
Look at it's shape... looks quite a lot like Bumblebee's G1 Cybertron mode.
Sell it first as a submarine, then sell it again later as a G1 Cybertron mode Bumblebee repainted in yellow!
Posted by Autobot032 on February 24th, 2009 @ 8:41pm CST
With computer imagery the way it is today, these mockups could've been designed on a computer, easily.
Because if these had made it to any phase of production (even the preshow of sorts) we'd have seen at least one of 'em on eBay.
I just find it odd that we've yet to find a single one of 'em.

1. Bumblebee's Cybertronian form on the show is a very cool design and looks nothing like this.
2. It comes with 2 very cool and show-featured retools
3. This isn't G1.
