I agree about Runescape, but I hope this is a paid subscription game. Month by month MMOs are usually a lot better than free ones.

I doubt it would be along those lines for character creation, and I also suspect it would be more along the lines of either War for Cybertron, TF Prime, or the Movieverse. Half the fun of this thread is going to be the speculating...

Take Exteel. I am NOT crying! They adopted a "Free to play, but if you'd like, you can pay with real money and get stuff faster," as well as turning billboards on maps into ACTUAL billboards. And it still wasn't financially successful enough for NCsoft to keep it going, even after a big content update. I just have something in my eye, shut up!
That said, I don't imagine this being a big major hit. I would dare to assume most of the people here haven't even heard of Exteel before, and that was from a major MMO developer. This is from the people who made Runescrap for Christ's sake. I've heard actual MMO fans use it as an insult. I can't imagine this would make a big splash, I'd be surprised if it made a small ripple.

MMos are usually targeted at the "18-to-35-year-old males" crowd. And as it's been said time and again, adult collectors are NOT the target audience for Transformers, it's always been for young boys. (Maybe not the movies so much)

HMW is a text-based team-management game. No offense to HMW, but it doesn't compare to a game where you can not only do things yourself, but you can see yourself do it.

You know, I have really been wanting to get in on that. But I don't even know what it is. How does Heavy Metal War work?

Very true. But it is still a good game and it deserves to receive more promotion and coverage than it does.

Command a team of up to 12 bots or cons, send them into missions with other faction members or on their own into the arena. Earn energon and experience to power your members developing their tech specs and tactics.

Star Wars: The Old Republic as an example...I think it was originally supposed to come out last summer. Last I heard, it was coming out this summer now. I don't know if it is though. Haven't checked up on it since the start of the year.
That's all I've got....Anyone keeping tabs on that other Transformers MMO we heard about last year? I saw a video on Youtube of various character types (flyer, tanks, car, etc) transforming in place, and wondered if that was from that.

To clarify "Command" means you select a mission for them to take part in, put them in it, wait for a timer to run out, then see what happened in the battle. You don't have direct influence over anything.
That, and after some big reset, all of my good bot names ended up being taken.

Nope, the closest they've ever given to a release date was Spring of this year. And from the sound of things, they're going to meet that. They've been handing out gameplay footage and all manner of details at a fairly consistent rate, they've got pre-release features all set up, and closed beta has been going on since July last year. It will also have HK-47.

Diablo2? *cough*
Also, Neopets could be a good way for Hasbro here - Neopets used to do a thing where you bought toys and used codes on the toys for stuff in-game. You also have the option of a yearly subscription or to purchase exclusive items with actual money. It seems to have done well for them.

What about it? Aside from the fact that it was neither an MMO, nor (To the best of my knowledge, the only Blizzard series I really pay attention to is StarCraft) was it free-to-play. You had to purchase the base game, but as usual, Battle.net is free.

I can't think of many (if any) other companies that have been that dedicated to such an old game.
As to it being an MMO, thats debateable. There are thousands of players online at once, and people are free to join your game, yet you can limit the room size\levels ect.

Amelie wrote:It was more a point on the development side of things - despite the decreasing sales and hype about Diablo3 coming soon, Blizzard have continued to support the game. I know you have to pay for Diablo2 in the first place, but I'm guessing over the past ten years I've had more than the £30-odd of server usage.

For starters, Blizzard can maintain a game that they aren't making money on anymore because of the $150,000,000 they get from WoW subscriptions each month.
Second, it's not debatable. I explained this for WfC, it's multiplayer, it's online, but it lacks the "massively" qualifier. A thousand people online does not an MMO make, a thousand people in one gigantic room all playing with each other simultaneously, however, does.

Which continuity will the game be set in? First generation? The movies? The new animated television show?
Just heard from Jagex public relations that the MMO will be based partly on Transformers Prime, the new animated series airing on the Hub network...

Of course, another possibility is that we'll each get to create our own kind of annoying human to be babysat by various Transformer NPCs.

craggy wrote:Prime, huh? I'm underwhelmed. Of course, I won't be surprised to see the whole thing end up as something more like Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures than WoW (or even a fun MMO ) but I can hope.
I'm hoping against this as well, but I'd bet in favor of it, especially with such a short timetable for release (then again, delays are inevitable with MMOs, as mentioned earlier). And let's be honest: this game is going to be aimed at a younger crowd- older than the toys, but still aimed at the kids the toys and series are focused on- and MMOs are difficult for kids to comprehend often. Hell, I still have problems with WoW every once in a while, and I'm pushing 40. The Clone Wars game is a disaster and is already failing miserably according to numbers, so we may get lucky and find this game aimed at the young teen audience. but I'm not holding my breath.

I actually liked the 07 movie game. Solely because you get to blow up buildings. So, the days when I was just pissed off at everything (like every day), I just played that game and I felt...good.
