This is kinda good news I suppose. Hasbro owns Transformers, though? I thought Takara/Tomy did.
I wish to God they'd expand with Classics though. I feel its the best line they've done since I don't even remember when.

But what happens if the movie tanks? Will Hasbro still pump out more Transformers? I guess if they change their designs to some "less realistic" They could still sell a lot of stuff.

I've been saying it all along... go back to your roots and give your consumers what they want.

Is Classics really setting the world on fire in the US? They're doing okay over here (in Toys'r'us in the UK), selling about as well as Cybertron. What they lose in "only associated media being nostalgia-market DVDs" they gain in "not being repaints". Cybertron was a much wider range of better advertised stuff a with similar standard of engineering to the Classics- I would have expected them to have a lot more to with the big sales, myself.
Calling the movie toys "unwanted" seems unduly pessimistic given they're the main characters in a feature film with an associated ad campaign of what can only be described as "biblical proportions".

I'm sure they're not going to stop making movie toys, but hopefully less of them and more of their own non-licensed toys.
That would increase their sales making the lessened availability increase the want(like the classics),driving their sales. Also there would be less back stock in the warehouses.
It also costs a lot to buy those licenses from the licenser, which, if Hasbro can eliminate that buy making successful lines, would make a bigger profit by not paying royalties.

I'm not going to speak ill of either line. I stick by what I said though; imo Classics is the best line they've done in a good long time. I think the only release that's been done so far I'm going to pass on is "The Battle for Autobot City" and even then only because they're repaints of Starscream and Optimus Prime.

Huh?
You mean those figure sets that have the comics packed in? They could actually do that in classics I think. I have a hard time picturing the packaging though. I can see it with figures I'd consider scout and deluxe class by today's standards (assuming they reissue figures instead of continuing this new mold thing) because those would be blister-carded anyway. It's the larger figures I have trouble with.
edit: For the record I'd rather they do new molds, but with the movie coming within 6 months I just don't see it happening.

They're selling extremely well here. I go out hunting and everytime the TF section is always depleted with maybe a couple remianing Optimus Primes, Hot Rods, or Starscreams since they've been out a while, but very few of them. The section is usually picked clean. I go to several different Target, Walmart (4 different ones to be exact), and Toys R Us stores and all of them usually have slim pickings left in the classics line. There are still remnants of Cybertron shelfwarmers left but everytime, the classics keep getting sold...
In the rare cases that I catch a newly restocked shelf and grab the new figures they put out, in about a week when check back for the next figure I didn't get yet, that same section is depleted again. And it's the same scenerio at each of these stores that I check. (Toys R US usually keeps up with them though.) That indicates to me that they are selling like Hotcakes.
Good point about the Titaniums too. I can't even find any of the full sized figures out anymore. They appear to have all been sold out. But again, those are another case of going back to the roots of Transformers, revisiting the characters that made it famous, and giving your consumers what they really want.
I wouild also like to add that its a very good thing for your sales when you have something for fans who have disposable incomes to buy. Children are the main market as they play with the toys, but unfortunately they do not have the incomes that adults/people who liked Transformers as kids back when, do. Children beg their parents to buy the toys to play with based on their looks in most cases, while adults/fans buy them based on the characters they loved from when they first got into Transformers. So doesn't it make sense to make something that both could love to the fullest like these (classics and Titanium) lines?

Not since the Robotmasters seekers have I enjoyed a G1 revisit so much.
Must make Titanuim 6" Blaster, Perceptor, Kup and Blurr.
Oh and seeker clones/drones.
Oh and 6" individual G1 Constructicons.
Oh and 6" versions of the Machine Wars Basics, love that Megatron.
