We return to the Hascon coverage that you may have missed, as more recordings have made it onto our YouTube channel - starting with the Prime Wars Trilogy panel that saw the likes of toy designers, comic artists, concept artists, and game developers all take the stage to discuss the various phases of the progression from Combiner Wars to Titans Return, now to Power of the Primes!

People taking the lead are John Warden, Mario Carreiro, IDW's Marcelo Matere, Space Ape's Adam Kramarzewski and David Erwin and the material included in the clip, and the gallery that accompanies it, range from the blueprint of the Prime Wars concept, running through used and unused concepts and designs (including Megatronus, Prima, a SkyShadow looking Thunderwing and more), plus the clips we've seen from Machinima's Titans Return and Transformers: Earth Wars. Check it all out below!

Enjoy designs behind the celebrated Combiner Wars chapter of the Prime Wars Trilogy, animated in partnership with Machinima, as well as a peek at the upcoming Titans Return animated series. Learn how Hasbro enlisted the fan universe to expand their story world and the beloved characters that have brought the story to life. Fans in attendance will also be the first to see exciting reveals from the popular mobile game Transformers: Earth Wars published by Backflip and developed by Space Ape games.

There's the Devastator version of that Predaking stage we saw. So now we know what to call it. Not a mock up, but a Scale Model. Neat.

Eh, they can't scale everything up bro.
I was very surprised we even got Combiner Wars with deluxe limbs.

That Optimus looks very good.

However, I just ordered that Third Party Titans Return Power Master Prime cab to replace that hollow thing it has. So...
Anyway this Optimus looks a lot more like G1 Optimus.

The thing that bugs me, why the faux/fake chest?
Just like the Third Party Ginrai, why can't they just make a true G1 Optimus torso again?

I do hope they remold Orion Pax into a more G1 looking Optimus Prime at some point. But overall like this version and will pick him up (like all the other Power of the Primes figures as soon as I finish collecting all of the Titans Return figures, damn you Hasbro everything you made from Combiner Wars on is pure win in my eyes)

Maybe that's why the movie sucked, because they poured all their efforts into their Classics/Generations line.

Little bit on the fence about Starscreams tiny head and fake chest. But it's a lot better looking than the Combiner Wars seekers which I'm replacing the heads for self made 3d prints.

As for the new beast combiners... just awesome.
I need to clone myself because I don't have enough time to enjoy all the awesomeness they've been making in recent years. It's just too much for one Transformers fan :s

Is that just the base sketch of blackshadow or are we seeing a potential retool?

A look at an attempt at Megatronus that was deemed "too obscure" by management for Leader class figures.

You know what that also means? Chances of DJD or other IDW in-fiction only characters getting the Generations treatment at higher scales is slim to none.

Which is strange; since TR just gave us Nautica, Quickswitch, Sky Shadow and Metalhawk.

Or maybe the design team thinks that one 1988 six-changer who was never in anything ever is more popular than a prominent villain in their multi-universal mythology, a recent cartoon and a live-action movie that made them a heckton of money. Seems rational to me.

Ah now I see them, both megatronus and prima. Too bad, they look cool. Personally I don't think leader scale works for them, but anything is better than nothing.

I'm not complaining about the characters we are getting. I have been quite happy with the inclusion of the female autobots in the toys and the current series (RiD and IDW), especially since it helps my daughter maintain interest in transformers. Oddly though, her favorite figure is Gnaw. We have put together a decent sized Gnaw army (the Gnawrmy as we say).

The thing I am a bit shocked by is that there were a ton of repaint/retool possibilities in TR that would have made sense, and hasbro chose not to overload us this time.

It looks like combiner wars devastator prototype figure without mixmaster looking arm limbs and long haul bot mode there identical hard to say having devastator with all figures leader class that will be master piece combiner figure

Geez, all these reveals have been amazing.
I want all the Dinobots but can't afford them all. :-(
Looks like I'll just be sticking to Jazz, the Pretenders, Slash (sooo adorable!! ♥), and possibly Starscream.
As much as I'd like to actually complete a combiner this time around, I'm still as broke as ever and the only way that'll happen is if a boxset goes on discount at Ross or whatever. :(

I'll probably get all of these new combiners no doubt. Still, it looks like they haven't done much to make Volcanicus look good from the BACK. Like Menasor and others, he suffers from the fact that his codpiece doesn't wrap around to cover his butt properly. And it looks like some of the deluxe parts don't mesh well with the voyager core....

No worries there. No chance a leader Megatronus comes out in PotP since all the primes are itty-bitties, and next year is all PotP.

We'll have to wait and see which gets released, one or both with the other as a running change. I will say that the blue will stick out in combined mode.

And I see Sludge and Slug share upper legs and hips as well. It's official: under CW rules, they're pretools

Yep, as do they share upper arms, lower legs (now that's a significantly large part!) and probably some other parts as well. What I appreciate though is that their transformation scheme is different between the two; it's not just a reshell (preshell?) of a pre-existing transformation skeleton, there are obviously a few twists and turns that are different between the two - notably, their torsos face opposite directions in their dino modes. If CW started the trend of pre-planned mold uses, and TR got the hang of shared parts, it looks like PoTP is heading toward a full-blown mastery of creative retooling, reshelling and everything else in the general vicinity! :D

I sure hope so! Of course, given that I'm approximately as excited about the prospect of this as I was about Nightbeat in TR (read:VERY), I'm also preparing myself to admit defeat if they decide a significant reshell wouldn't be worth the work. The pain of losing something that was never going to exist in the first place... no person should know that pain :P

This is only about US MSRP. The MSRP on the previous leaders in the Generations line, as you can see in the link below, is $45

https://www.hasbro.com/en-us/product/tr ... 5E03090E90

So this makes it a $5 increase.

Ooh, that would be nice now you mention it :x I mean, we've already got Rodimus Unicronus or whatever in the pipeline for PoTP; whether that makes a similar kind of SG/Nemesis deco for Prime more or less likely is up for debate.

John Warden confirmed that the blue chested Swoop is the correct one. At the Friday panel, they withheld showing Swoop's stock render for reasons that weren't disclosed at the panel, and encouraged people to go see his toy in the display after the panel. That the stock render had a red chest suggests that they didn't want to give people the wrong impression about the toy since the render had the "wrong" chest color, and also suggests that the decision to go with a blue chest for Swoop was one made too late in the game for the stock render to be changed before HasCon.

Anyone else hoping to see figures like Thunderwing, Crossblades, etc done in this Leader Class style? I'd also be game for an Armada Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus, but definitely open to some out of the box ideas as well before this concept expires.

All that would be cool, but I'm not expecting it.

How about Leader Class Elita One?

Another cool idea.

Though, that-which-we-weren't-supposed-to-have-seen-before showed her to be a reuse of the Voyager Starscream mold.

Not in this line, she is coming as a voyager in wave 2.

I am pretty sure we will be getting a Star Sabre though. Armada Prime wouldnt be likely since they already have a big Optimus for this leader class that they will be rereleasing throughout the line.

What I would want, and I dont think we will get it, would be a Megatron that turns into Galvatron to oppose Rodimus.

The more I see of the Dinobots the more disappointed I get. The deluxes only come with one of their weapons, they should come with a sword AND blaster at least. Grimlock doesn't look like he comes with anything besides the combiner feet.

I thought we saw all the leaders and it's only going to be Prime, Rodimus, Repaint Rodimus, and Primal.

Did no one else notice that the official release from hasbro said all the dinobots will be available fall 2017? Sounds contradictory to the release schedules we have seen. If true I am pleasantly surprised.

Yeah Grimlock only comes with his combiner feet. And we only know the leaders of the first 3 waves, Power of the Primes will likely comntinue into mid 2018, we have no clue what comes out for the last 3 waves.

I think I saw Snarl at least with a little removable gun on his dino mode? I'm not too sure. But even so, by this point I'm so used to updated toys not getting all of their 'proper' weapons (or any at all) that it hardly bothers me any more.

Grimlock though, I hadn't noticed that. Not that you point it out, I'm glad I still have FoC Grimmy's weapons (plus that gun that came with the IF Dino-Armor) to give to this one! Not that that helps anyone else, but still.

Those Leaders are all we saw in the leaks, yes, but those leaks only show what was "planned" for the first four (three? I'd trust Will on this one) waves. Since at this point we can be fairly certain PotP will be 6 waves, that leaves at least two waves' worth of Leaders (and every other class too) that we haven't yet seen. Plus on top of that, this:
mordhelm wrote:Did no one else notice that the official release from hasbro said all the dinobots will be available fall 2017? Sounds contradictory to the release schedules we have seen. If true I am pleasantly surprised.
that mordhelm observed (and I think I've noticed it too) seems to suggest that the wave plans we saw in the leaks weren't actually final. If they're reordering things between waves, there's also the potential (which seems likely to me) that some of the slots taken by re-released figures from earlier in the line might be replaced by new toys, or retools, or something. It's nothing concrete I suppose, but it's enough to encourage me not to give up hope, at least :D

Thanks to a leak from a Weibo user, we now have several more examples of artwork from the upcoming Transformers Power of the Primes line! The pieces, mirrored down below, all feature variations on similar designs/poses for each character. They feature Grimlock, Starscream, Optimus Prime, Rodimus Prime, Jazz and Optimus Primal. Since almost all of them contain several characters at once, it's unlikely they are art from any collector's cards packaged with the soon-to-be-released toys, or from the packaging itself, so it's unknown at this time what the art will be used for. Check out the pieces below, and then check out the real-life figures for yourself with our galleries from Hascon!

Slight deviation ... there's a picture floating around that shows Megatron who can turn into a gun, but that gun then combines with a green tank (ala G2) which then transforms into a combined mode.

Wait, what? I hadn't heard about that at all!

Although Megatron turning into a gun automatically makes me suspicious.

It wasn't official, guessing it was a fan art thing. Can't even find it now, knew I should have saved it.

I wonder if Takara would consider a box set with PotP Starscream, and then 4 repaints of the "Ghost Starscream" Unite Warriors mold as Thundercracker, Skywarp, Sunstorm, and Acid Storm.

As long they're pertinent, I have no issue.

I'll continue to insist on the next ten years about this missed opportunity in CW :

Blue chest swoop is an animation error.
It should be red.

So to the best of my knowledge THIS IS FAN ART. Recent too judging by the date, and the fact they've drawn in how a Prime Master would work.
