Haslab Opens Unicron Questions Up to Instagram

I'd love to see this, if only Instagram had a competent sign up system.

what would be cool is to have just the head but make as big as the titan class figures and make it like a playset base so regular figures can fit inside of it

This is one of the reasons why I’m hesitant on this. To me, Unicron must have a beard, it’s one of the signature things about him.

Well maybe a 3rd Party can produce an Add On piece or maybe a special type of pen with the proper ink that simply goes on and wipes off for one's own preference...I'm just sayin'.

the only question I would have asked is time I need more time I literally just got a raise at work I want to pay off some back bills and then I'm going to purchase two of these things please extend the time

Is it weird that I really hope it gets backed, even though there's no way I'd ever be able to afford it?

Also, some people posting on the Instagram Q&A really have no idea about how much it costs to manufacture anything.

I know KO and zeta toys are going to be making third-party close ones but I really want the official instead of the knock-offs. the reason why is because my son lives at his house and he lives at his mom's house. And she doesn't buy him anything just me

We won't know proper backing numbers till all the third party sites submit their numbers to hasbro. The figure we have is just those backing on pulse.

Has Hasbro actually responded to any of the questions yet? It's been up for almost a full day now.

I'd rather have a new mold than start with the Armada base, but I agree that I'd rather it be smaller and cheaper. Unicron can never scale anyways, so having him be even Titan class doesn't really matter that much to me, I'd take a figure the same size as the Armada one with some major updates. It would also be more fun to compare them afterwards too, and he might still scale nicely with Primus in Cybertron mode. Not to mention, this guy literally can't fit on any shelf I have, I want him but at the same time I don't because of just how huge he is. I guess I'm just not in the target audience..

If Unicron's head is detachable, has anyone wondered if they have a more accurate G1 cartoon head tooled up with a proper goatee and smaller horns? Seeing the head detaches just makes me want an alternate head that is more cartoon accurate, perhaps one with an interchangeable eye feature so that you can replicate the shattered eyes from the end of the movie.

yeah i have seen that one im not sure if its a sculpted piece like a statue or if it has electionics inside for light up eyes but its still less expensive than the haslab unicron

$799.99. And it’s a lamp. That doesn’t transform.

I'm OK with teeth on Transformers, especially Unicron of all 'bots. Though I think the particular art style of the faces matters.

It’s not really G1 accurate per se but I don’t mind the teeth too much it gives it some cool detail and it definitely looks like you can fit a few Titan Masters in there

I could totally see whole interchangeable heads for the different iterations. I wouldn’t be shocked if that was one of the features.

It is that weird humanisation that some writers, artists (and fans) can't seem to break away from. They are not people. You can give a wide variety of expressions to the standard Cybertronian face without making them look too human. Adding teeth, eyebrows etc to their designs just starts to look like catering to a fetish. The same one that oversexualises certain Fem-Bot designs.

Given that, would you find yourself more a fan of (or more ok with) that G1 liquid-metal-ish face or do you like the movie version where it’s multiple panels and layers shifting that makes the facial expressions?

Exactly Stargrave kids don't care that the robots have teeth or facial hair, they just roll with it. They accept without question (as long as it fits their definition of cool of course)

I don't care if a tf has teeth or not personally.

^ Funnily enough when you think about who the most iconic Transformers are, most of them RE Prime, Soundwave, Grimlock etc barely have regular eyes, let alone mouths with teeth

I tend to go for option C, the context sensitive, situational faces of Beast Wars. Wherein your altmode doesn't just determine your outer shell, but is reflected throughout your entire aesthetic. Some characters have mouths, teeth, no mouths, no eyes etc But as long as it is consistent with their overall design.

When I was a kid I didn't bat an eye at Cyclonus with his eyeliner or Scourge with his pink nails. Which in hindsight were really strange aesthetic decisions that didn't seem to have any reason to be

Bayformers were overdesigned nonsense, for the most part. I've read many devils advocate responses to their designs. Some people rationalising that, that is what a more alien-centric Transformers design would look like. From someone with a background in art and design, that to me is just a load of Cesium salami, for the layman to buy into.

I do wonder if there is more to kids liking that design, afterall kids dig Knights in full armour and those designs with the mouth plate do seem to come across as inspired by depictions of full Samurai armour (which is also amazingly cool)

I've also met many layman who have been perfectly acceptive of the bay movie designs. I think it all falls under preferences.

It’s funny I look up and I see Optimus, Soundwave, Shockwave. I also love the takes that lean away from, shoot, would we call it anthropomorphism maybe? At least the less human more beastly or oddly shaped characters and their quirks always appealed to me just as much as a clean lined Rodimus. Skylynx is just as elegant as he is completely awkward and bazaar and monstrous.

I finally placed my TFSource pre-order. I wanted to do it on Pulse, but it was simply impossible with things happening this month.

but I am officially backing it now. And while it is more, it gives me 16 months to save. And if it makes it, it will be released right at my birthday it seems, so some more justification to wait to pay until then!

Anyone ever been in a work meeting and the new guy asks a question that’s way off topic for like the third time in a row and you just know they’re never gonna pass probation? The closest I've gotten is: everytime someone complains about the price or scale of the largest transformer ever given the largest transformer toy ever, take a shot of a watered down wine cooler.

All this back and forth talk about teeth has compelled me to remind everyone here that the teeth on this Unicron are completely optional. They can be folded out and visible for a toothy look or folded in and hidden away for a toothless look.

Was just thinking of possible features and thinking of the movie; it’d be kinda neat if he had removable battle damage armor plates and even limbs to recreate the end of the movie where he gets Matrixed. Just like what other scenes could you emulate. I still want it to eat Titan Masters. And have a base mode. But I want everyone to have a base mode. I mean if childhood tag taught me anything it’s that if a person could perpetually be on base they would be utterly unstoppable.

If there was one feature i wish he had, it would be an acid vat. Otherwise I'm not overly attached to any other gimmick he might have.

As a follow up to the previous bot mode video, Hasbro has released a new video for HasLab Unicron featuring planet mode on Pulse. John Warden is back again taking a close look at the finer points of the roughly beach ball sized planet and its 30" spread across the ring which also happen to be all of the same features listed on the site.

No real surprises in the video, but it is fairly awe inspiring seeing a person standing next to the massive planet and knowing that could potentially be in your home in 2021! I'm still trying to wrap my head around those finger-thick rings!
